Why free roll training? Take every opportunity to free roll with your training partners. It's the perfect way to exercise the new techniques you've learnt that week against an opponent trying to take you out. Drilling a technique will always be beneficial for your BJJ game but is limited in regards to how effective the technique will actually be against an opponent trying dominate you. This is also the perfect time to work on your weaknesses, whether it be your guard passing, submissions or open/closed guard technique. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (bjj) is not for the faint-hearted. It's an art that requires 100% of your mental and physical attention. Whether you're a general bjj practitioner or a world champion competitor, the road to success in this sport/martial art is not easy. The first and most important step in becoming successful in bjj is to let go of the "drop kicks" on your life. You need the support, motivation and advice from positive people who want the best for YOU, not themselves. A drop kick will sap the living positive energy out of your world. You need to focus that positive energy into your training, relationships, your job and yourself. A drop kick won't know what to do with the respect you've shown them. A drop kick will happily take the time you've invested in them and still treat you like a peasant, why? BECAUSE THEY DONT KNOW ANY BETTER. They have never tasted success and don't plan on helping you with yours. Put it this way, A boat won't go far with the anchor still attached to it.
