People in Japan, at least, wear them to avoid getting sick/to avoid getting others sick! Where as here it’s weird because we think of the masks as only being worn by people who are seriously ill, in Japan they wear them even if they just have a little sniffle etc because it’s courteous :) They sell those masks literally everywhere too you can get em in different colors and they make ones for kids too!! It seemed weird to me when I first got there but after a while I was debating doing it! They’re super clean people and it’s just another way to prevent getting sick etc!!
