Edward -- he's alive. She told him to leave her, she told him -- stubborn pain in the arse, he is, the man she laid claim on as her best mate; not that she'd trade him for anyone on this earth. Vaguely, she wonders how long he's been there, how long she's been sleeping -- it feels a lifetime and more since the birth of her baby and the subsequent slip into illness -- she shifts again, turning more towards the seasoned sailor with a wince. "I won't make any promises, mate," she breathes with a weak rasp of a laugh as an unsteady hand comes to rest on his knee. "If I didn't know better, I'd say ye were worried, Ed."

In spite of what Mary may say, she recognizes the sunken lines of his face, the weary look in his eye and smell of alcohol on his breath. Her lips purse, and she squeezes his kneecap, smile on a slow and weary fade. " ye look like shite."

There's a figure silhouetted in the darkness, and as hazel eyes come into focus, recognition dawns on her. Tired and sickly, she still manages a smirk, as if nothing at all has changed.]
