The thing with Taoism is it's its own system. Full stop.
The problem with reinterpreting it or using a surface interpretation is that Christian culture gets in the way of understanding.
I see a lot of Christian culture people approach Daoism as the panacea to "Western" thinking. In a world of excesses, Daoism represents "balance". It's part of a confused mischung of Zen, Buddhism, and whichever world view has you walking through the woods on a snowy evening.
