Legendary Showdown: Presidential Edition is now on Kickstarter!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/killer-robot-games/legendary-showdown-presidential-edition
Legendary Showdown: Presidential Edition
Politics can be full of backstabbing, deception, and chaos, which is absolutely perfect for a Legendary Showdown! For the past year, we have been researching the presidents of the United States and learning about their lives, their accomplishments, and (perhaps most importantly) their unbelievable oddities and quirks. On May 15th, we will be launching the Kickstarter for Legendary Showdown: Presidential Edition, featuring our nation's greatest heroes, darkest secrets, and the incredible artwork of Tim Buckley. It will be a delightful look into the leaders, policies, and absurdities that made America great and... are making America great, again?
We have a lot of great extras planned, including a NSFW booster pack by Jeph Jacques of QuestionableContent.net, an influential women booster pack by Der-shing Helmer of MeekComic.com and MareComic.com, some amazing coins, and a book containing all the absurd presidential facts we couldn't fit on the cards with presidential portraits by Tim Buckly of Ctrl+Alt+Delete comic. For updates and access to Early Bird specials, add your email to the form at the top of the page. Don't worry, we won't spam you or share your information. I mean, Putin might see the list, but we can’t do much about that.
Also, check out some of our sweet presidents!
And how about a quick sneak peak at a few cards?
Don’t forget to sign up for the early bird special, and check back for more updates!
Gamer’s Quest Kickstarter is Live!
We’’re excited to announce the launch of the Legendary Showdown: Gamer’s Quest Kickstarter featuring Ctrl+Alt+Del! Here is the Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/killer-robot-games/legendary-showdown-gamers-quest.
We’ve shown some sneak peeks here before, but we have some awesome rewards to choose from. They include the game (of course), a special edition game set featuring Kickstarter exclusive cards and oversized cards, magnet sets with over 40 magnets, and a bunch of artwork created by Tim himself! Head on over to the Kickstarter page to check them out! Here’s what some of the action cards in the will game look like:
Feel free to leave any questions or comments below. We hope you’ll join us for this awesome Kickstarter.
Kickstarter Coming Soon!
We’re getting really close to launching the Kickstarter. This project is going to have so much awesome art! We’ve been working closely with Tim to create a ton of new artwork for the game, including a magnificent fridge magnet set! You’ll be able to create all the battle scenarios your heart desires with these magnets. There will be 20 distinguished magnets in all, here’s a little sneak peek of a few of them:
We also have all the card artwork completed, and the deck list set. Legendary Showdown: Gamer’s Quest, will feature an even bigger set of cards than our past two games, and include some really fun, new dynamics that are sure to make battles even more legendary. Check out some of the sweet combinations you’ll be able to make with the characters, weapons, and bonuses from the game:
This project has been a ton of fun so far and we’re really excited launch. Let us know what you think about the magnets and cards so far in the comments section!
Introducing the Collectors Coins for Legendary Showdown: Gamer’s Quest
That’s right, the official name for Legendary Showdown 3 will be Legendary Showdown: Gamer’s Quest! But, more important than the name, we wanted to share with you the preliminary coin designs for the upcoming Kickstarter. Keep in mind, these are just the initial designs, and may still need a little tweaking once we have the physical samples. :)
The first coin is called Future Apocalypse Survivor. In the story of Ctrl+Alt+Del, the main character, Ethan, creates his very own robot friend and affectionately names him Zeke. Like all robots, he has a natural urge to rule the human race, and the world. After many years of friendship, it eventually gets out of control and Ethan has to stop him by using his butter-powered time machine. This one isn’t quite ready to show yet because of the 3D design renderings, but trust us, we’ll make sure it looks amazing. Have a look at the next two!
The second coin is titled as the Game Master coin. In the comic, Ethan and his friends create their own gaming holiday at the end of January to get them through the sadness that is post-Christmas time. During this holiday, Ethan wears the Game Master Crown and even builds up his own gaming congregation.
The third and final coin design is the Federation Credits coin. Included in the CAD universe is the Starcaster Chronicles. In this story, a drifter named Cort and his mimion buddy Speck travel the galaxy in search of adventure. The Federation is one of the main governing bodies in the galaxy and if you want to buy stuff, you’ve got to have some Federation Credits!
People really seemed to love our last coins, and we vow to make this set just as awesome! Let us know what you think about the designs in the comments. :)
First Peek at Legendary Showdown 3 with CAD Comic
Hi everyone, we want to give you an update on our progress with the next edition of Legendary Showdown. Right now, we’re in the process of gathering images for the card deck, making the card design files, and balancing the game dynamics. We’re getting really excited about how fun this game is going to be!
Ctrl+Alt+Del has a long history and we’ve had a good time reading through all the past content to create this new game. Tim has been really great to work with so far and has even agreed to re-create a lot of the old artwork exclusively for Legendary Showdown! All the images are going to be super high quality and make for some really nice game cards. Here’s a side by side of some of the new artwork vs. the old. These guys just might make it into the game:
We’re not gonna lie, the decklist is looking pretty sweet too. With potential cards like “Forced to do Math” and “Fierce Dragon Debate,” there are going to be some epic and whacky battles.
Check back with us soon for more info on what we’re working on. :) We’re open to suggestions! Feel free to leave any awesome card ideas in the comments section. If you’re new to Legendary Showdown, check out our gameplay video, webstore, or ask us any questions you may have!
Legendary Showdown 3
Alright, that’s it, we can’t hold it in anymore! We are excited to announce our next project! We have partnered with the amazing and hilarious webcomic Ctrl+Alt+Del to make our next edition of Legendary Showdown. Looking back, we’ve had great partnerships with the authors of Dr. McNinja, Girl Genius, and Gunnerkrigg Court, and we can’t wait to get started with our next partner, the brilliant Tim Buckley at CAD comic.
Ctrl+Alt+Del is an incredibly dynamic comic with a long track record of witty and engaging content. Reading through the comic, we’ve enjoyed everything about it from the main story featuring Ethan MacManus and his friends, the daily asides, campaign stories, and all the jokes in between. It’s everything we’re looking for in a feature comic and we’re ecstatic that Tim has agreed to work with us.
We will be launching our Kickstarter next month, and hope you’ll join us on this journey! We’ve got some great ideas that we are excited to share with you. This Kickstarter will feature some amazing extras, as well as a new, exciting, huge, and insanely fun game deck. Tim has been awesome to work with so far and we’ve got our heads buried in development to make this game even better than our last two.
Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions, comments, or feedback, or to just share your favorite moments from the comic if you’re a reader! We’ll be posting consistent updates with our progress right here, stay tuned for peaks into the new game.

Muse of Mystery
Sorry for the delay in posting updates the last two weeks, we've been busy trying to nail down everything in preparation for the Kickstarter Launch. The launch is getting close, just a few more things to finish up and then we'll be ready.
With that said, we wanted to share with you one of the Girl Genius reward samples we received recently. We are pretty thrilled with how it turned out, and we think you will be too.
Now that we've shared a few of the bonus rewards for the upcoming Kickstarter campaign, we thought it was about time to reflect on the main event and talk about the game. It's easy to learn how to play Legendary Showdown, but reading rule books is for chumps. Check out the instructional game play video above to see what it's all about!
The new edition of Legendary Showdown, featuring Girl Genius and Gunnerkrigg Court, follows the same rules, but has fresh action, instant, face down, weapon, and bonus cards that allow for a lot of exciting new strategies. In other words, it's a new flavor of the same game. You can also mix and match cards from both editions to create your own variations.
Also, to everyone who participated in our discussion about choosing the new game name, thank you for your comments and suggestions! We are considering your recommendations and will be announcing the final name soon.
Name the Game for Gunnerkrigg Court and Girl Genius
One of Killer Robot Games' founding principles is to make amazing things, and then to find a way to make them even better. Our games aren't complete until they have undergone multiple levels of revisions, with each cycle demanding new improvements.
As we have been preparing to launch our next game, we came to the realization that we never updated and upgraded the production name of "Legendary Showdown 2". Well, now it's time for some new improvements, and we would like your help. Since Legendary Showdown was designed with the fans of webcomics in mind, it only makes sense to involve those fans whenever we can.
We would like your help to brainstorm a new title for the sequel to Legendary Showdown, featuring Girl Genius and Gunnerkrigg Court, and to the winner goes the spoils. Whoever first suggests the name that we decide to use for the title of the second Legendary Showdown will receive a copy of the game, 5 collectors coins, and one copy of each refrigerator magnet set. Please leave your ideas for the new title in the comments below. Good luck!

Heads or Robots?
We are another week closer to launching the Kickstarter for Legendary Showdown 2, featuring Girl Genius and Gunnerkrigg Court, and everything is coming together quite nicely! We love the artwork that Tom Siddell has provided for a fantastic pair of challenge coins, so we thought you might like a small preview.
The first coin features two of the most prominent robots in the mechanical community at Gunnerkrigg Court: an elegant and sophisticated Seraph class robot, and... a boxbot. Both are beautifully crafted and minted in 3D on an elaborate background of 3D gears. I think it's pretty apparent which side is heads and which is tails.
We have also have a coin featuring everyone's favorite prankster god. Coyote is seen in full color flashing his classic smile on a 3D background. On the back, Coyote is proudly displayed taking the place of the moon (also in 3D), complete with the fingerprint of one Antimony Carver.
We are also in the process of finishing another challenge coin for Gunnerkrigg Court, and several beautiful coins for Girl Genius. Check back soon for more updates!
Way of the Ninja
Instead of providing tips for your own Kickstarter campaign or writing about our upcoming game, Legendary Showdown 2 - featuring Girl Genius and Gunnerkrigg Court, today we wanted to reflect back on the original Legendary Showdown and open a discussion. The Adventures of Dr. McNinja is one of our favorite webcomics, and it has a massive collection of colorful characters that is always expanding. Since the Kickstarter launched, Dr. McNinja has thwarted King Radical, slain a few vampires, visited Judy's hometown, saved the President, and explored a crypt of the undead. If we were to one day add some more cards from The Adventures of Dr. McNinja, which new characters would you like to see? Which characters do you wish would have been included in the first edition of Legendary Showdown? Are there any radical card ideas that you are hoping to add to your collection? Please share your thoughts and leave a comment below.
Battle in the Kitchen!
With Legendary Showdown, we have two goals: to support webcomics that we love, and to make our fans happy. For those reasons, we have been brainstorming add-ons and bonus items that we hope you will love. Today we are pleased to present a sneak peek at one of our bonus items for the next Kickstarter: Battle Magnets! Below, you can preview a small selection of some of the characters that will be available. The Girl Genius and Gunnerkrigg Court battle magnet set contains approximately 40 characters and a number of perfectly suited props - essentially everything you need to turn your refrigerator into a beautiful display of comic chaos.
Away with coupons, to-do lists, and calendars on the refrigerator, I say! Bring on the Girl Genius and Gunnerkrigg battle magnets!
We hope this preview of the magnets will get you as excited for the Kickstarter as we are! As always, let us know if you have any comments or suggestions.
Looking back as we move forward
Happy New Year to all of our supporters! As we start 2015 and prepare to launch a new and exciting tabletop game, we wanted to take a moment to look back at the lessons we learned during our Kickstarter campaign for the first Legendary Showdown.
Building our first Kickstarter campaign felt a little like jumping off a cliff without being able to see the bottom. We had been working on Legendary Showdown for almost two years and had high hopes for the campaign, but we weren’t sure what to expect or where it would take us. Our Kickstarter reached its funding goal of $15,000 within 48 hours and went on to raise more than $100,000. Awesome! After it was all said and done, there are many things that turned out very well (like being able to make a radical game) and a few things that plan to improve with the lessons we learned.
Thanks to extensive feedback on our last Kickstarter, we have decided to advertise all of the reward options at the beginning of the campaign. Previously, we had included some of the add-ons as stretch goals. For the upcoming Kickstarter campaign, we will have every add-on available at the start of the campaign so supporters can make the most informed decisions from the beginning. If you are interested in previewing our new rewards, check back in a few weeks to see what rewards Tom Siddell and Kaja & Phil Foglio have created exclusively for Killer Robot Games.
Our biggest frustration from the last Kickstarter was ensuring that the games were manufactured in a timely manner while maintaining a high standard of quality. While we felt the general quality was exceptional, the manufacturing took much longer than originally quoted and there were some occasional quality control issues. We want to give an accurate timeline to our backers and are actively researching manufacturers who will be able to produce a high quality game with less delay. We appreciate every dollar you pledge on Kickstarter and we are committed to sending your games and rewards as soon as possible.
Finally, we are actively researching the best way to handle shipping. We were able to ship to domestic backers quickly and nearly every supporter received their rewards without issues. A few international backers had to pay additional customs or fees to receive their shipments and we are currently researching methods to handle all shipping costs up front and hopefully avoid the unexpected fees. In addition, the next Kickstarter will have reduced shipping costs for international orders, including substantial shipping discounts for international backers who order multiple items.
How can you help? While we are working to make the next Kickstarter campaign even better, you are the best source of information. Have you been involved with any projects that handled any of these tasks exceptionally well? Do you have any suggestions or experiences with internal shipping? Please let us know in the comments below, or send us an email. Thank you for reading, and for any suggestions you may share!
Take 2: Girl Genius and Legendary Showdown
Last week we introduced Gunnerkrigg Court, a brilliant and extremely popular webcomic that we are proud to welcome to the Killer Robot Games family. The next edition of Legendary Showdown will be unique, featuring two webcomics in a single game. Gunnerkrigg Court fans may be wondering where we could possibly find a thematically appropriate webcomic that is on par with the celebrated story, artwork, and comedy of Gunnerkrigg Court - well, prepare to be amazed! Today we are thrilled beyond words to introduce the three time Hugo Award winning webcomic, Girl Genius! Written by masters of the trade, Kaja and Phil Foglio, Girl Genius is a tale of adventure, romance, and MAD SCIENCE! Girl Genius takes place in a world ruled by sparks - mad scientists with an innate gift of intelligence so powerful that many of them are driven insane or filled with such ruthless ambition that their works have shaped the course of history. The story focuses on Agatha Clay, a young woman who has good intentions, but always seems to fall just short of her dreams, at least until the fateful day that she discovers that she is actually a spark whose natural talents had been sealed for her own protection. However, Agatha isn't just some minor spark. She is the last of the Heterodynes, a family of sparks whose deeds were so great and intelligence so vast that they were celebrated as myths and legends in their own time. As Agatha discovers her birthright and begins to grasp the depth of her potential, her world unravels and she stumbles through one adventure after another.
Why we love Girl Genius
Girl Genius is a Gaslamp fantasy (a phrase coined by Kaja Foglio) with gorgeous artwork and an excellent storyline within a fantastical world. The comic follows Agatha as she discovers the extent of her gifts as a spark and exactly how far the ruler of Europa, Baron Wulfenbach, will go to ensure that another Heterodyne won't rise to power. The plot takes a sudden turn when Agatha reaches Mechanicsburg, home to the mysterious and booby-trapped Castle Heterodyne, and discovers that she has more powerful allies than she realizes.
Kaja and Phil Foglio have created a world populated by fascinating characters. Baron Wulfenbach is delightfully single-minded as he pursues Agatha across Europa. Gilgamesh Wulfenbach, son and heir, has been tasked with destroying the last of the Heterodynes, but quickly realizes that his heart is in another place. One of our favorite elements of Girl Genius is the constant stream of stunning creatures and creative characters. Agatha runs into myriads of monsters and villains, including tribal bears armed with weapons (complete with teeth necklaces and spears), royal dragons, sewer monsters, gigantic winged monkeys, and mechanical beasts.
Legendary Showdown 2
We loved poring over Girl Genius to look for ways to make Legendary Showdown 2 exciting and unique. Naturally, any game featuring Girl Genius would need to be rich with fascinating weapons and mechanical surprises. In honor of Agatha, we have included a variety of ray guns, explosives, and some pretty sweet battle armor. For example, Battle Armor of the Heterodynes is a 6 point bonus that has been a hit in testing. I pity the poor Dingbot who faces Von Pinn while she's wearing The Battle Armor of the Heterodynes.
Check back next week for new card updates and our progress on the game (and sweet Kickstarter rewards). If you have any awesome card ideas, please leave a comment below. If you are new to Legendary Showdown, consider taking advantage of our holiday specials to play Legendary Showdown now, or see what our supporters think of Legendary Showdown over at Amazon.com.
