I want to speak out about the unjust treatment of women in my country, Kazakhstan, and bring this news to public attention so that everyone knows the shameful stance taken by the judicial authority in Astana.

For the first time in Kazakhstan’s judicial history, Judge Seifulla Tasymbetov officially classified the brutal gang rape of a 14 year old girl as consensual sex. This decision effectively legitimizes group violence against a child in the capital city.

Judge Tasymbetov did not simply remain passive; he fully adopted the arguments put forward by Prosecutor Olzhas Khairullayev. During the proceedings, the prosecutor cynically claimed that the defendants choked the teenager because she enjoyed it, and that threats to break her jaw were a natural reaction. The judge accepted this reasoning without question. He ignored fifty direct pieces of evidence of violence, threats, physical injuries, and the victim’s helpless state, and proceeded to approve the lenient Article 122 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This ruling endangers every child in Kazakhstan. The only effective way to respond is to spread this news widely so that it becomes a matter of public shame. It appears that public outcry is the only thing the Kazakh judiciary truly fears.

it's been over a month since the film came out, and I still can't shake the feeling that aziraphale got reduced to an empty extension of crowley. he became his burden, his manipulator, the villain responsible for every problem in crowley’s life

crowley ended up at the center of the entire story. the film constantly frames him as a tragic, miserable figure, but a lot of his actions barely make sense. after losing his miracles and bentley, why didn’t he stay in the bookshop? the idea that "it hurt too much" doesn’t really work for me considering how much that place meant to him and how much he cared for it. and after winning at the casino, why refuse the money? it felt less like character writing and more like the story trying to force sympathy: "look how much aziraphale ruined his life." which makes even less sense when they reconcile almost immediately afterward

and then there’s aziraphale. he basically becomes the scapegoat. heaven dislikes him, people on earth blame him for leaving whickber street and crowley, and suddenly he’s treated like some selfish careerist who never truly loved crowley and only cared about his angelic side. the line "you were the best angel" ... fuck. seriously?

what bothers me most is seeing people say things like "crowley suffered because aziraphale kept rejecting him." at that point I genuinely wonder if we watched the same story. how do you watch season 2 and come away thinking aziraphale’s motivations and character weren’t get rewritten?

it surprises me when people call the ending “not homophobic” simply because it leaves two men in a romantic relationship. the problem is not that anthony and asa fell in love with each other. the problem is that aziraphale and crowley, characters with one of the most unusual and deeply developed queer stories in modern fantasy, were sacrificed for it

a romance between two men does not automatically make a story good representation. especially when those characters are reduced to a set of generic traits: they are kind, they love each other, and that is basically it. we have already seen countless stories like that, and this is not just about gay relationships. people loved aziraphale and crowley not because they were a couple. they loved them as individuals: complex, contradictory characters with their own dynamic, history, and personalities that developed over many years. that is why it feels so strange to watch them be replaced with a flatter version of the same idea

to me, bad representation is not the absence of a kiss. it is when unique queer characters are erased in favor of a safer and more conventional romantic story. that is a disservice to the fandom

what genuinely frustrates me is how the good omens fandom immediately dogpiled on the woman who was primarily doing directorial work, while the male writers who, as it turns out, are friends of neil gaiman and openly protective of him are barely being questioned at all. nobody seems interested in asking why they’ve stayed completely silent, avoided interviews, and refused to publicly comment on any of this. It’s incredibly telling how quickly blame gets redirected onto women, even when they weren’t the ones making the core writing decisions. meanwhile the men involved are allowed to disappear into silence without facing the same level of scrutiny or hostility. that double standard is honestly the most depressing part of the entire situation
