Personal f/o ramble bellow whoops

I don't really care for MHA nowadays, but I remember sticking around just to see what would happen to him in the end. Even when I fell out of interest with MHA a long time ago, I still adored Kai's character. No other character (in any show or fandom) has really felt like an f/o in the way Kai has, and I think it's because of the overlap of when I was hyperfixating on him, while I was spiralling irl around 2021-2023. I've had dissociative and depressive episodes in the past, but none as persistent as that time period. It was really comforting just to think about him and his relationship with Cupid; how they were each other's confidant, and clicked together despite their own baggage- this certain hopefulness about 'impossible couples' being able to thrive, despite everyone's doubts. There was a lot going on in my life at the time, boundaries being pushed to my limit, feeling disgusted by people that I thought I could trust, the disappointment that my pain was never really felt or heard by loved ones even though I tried to tell them, the sorrow that stepping stones of my youth and early adulthood were lost to people that used me, the confusion and isolation exploring my asexuality- and wondering if I was valid in my own identity or if I'm only ace because it feels like it stemed from childhood trauma- a lot of things going on that I could really only find comfort and closure when I focused caring about a character like Kai. Caring about him felt like this abstract sense of self-autonomy that I could care for myself- -some screwed-up version of harm reduction that if I put all my effort into caring for villains like Overhaul, I would get that "out of my system" instead of continuing my history of trying to fix broken, abusive people in real life. As well as these mental gymnastics that Kai would resonate and understand my struggles to- things like not really understanding his own asexuality, not feeling like his words are being taken seriously by others, this feeling of disgust when people have wronged him and so on. But yeah.. following that idea of just- having Kai as a character to help me vent throughout the years has made me feel like it really has helped my mental health after all. It was comforting to just have this fantasy, and creative liberty to soften the edges of someone like Kai, and to have that feeling of being absolutely special that someone as jaded and cold as him would end up falling in love, unconditionally. It was indulgent to have this fantasy that someone like Kai would never betray or doubt me, and wouldn't hesitate to protect me- and I exerted a lot of those feelings into the ship I had with him and Cupid.

Kai as a character REALLY has done a number on my prefrontal cortex istg. Now it's solidified that I think of him to help me de-escalate from spiralling. Even in this past year, during stressful periods of my life, he pops up in dreams and streams of consciousness, as silly as it is, typing this out. I don't know what the future holds and it's hard to say, and it's exciting and scary all at the same time. I'm 25 now and I don't feel young but I don't feel old either, I feel like I'm in a weird limbo of things. But I do know if I ever slip back into depressive episodes, I can always come back to my mind palace, thinking about my ship with Kai and Cupid; he'll always have a special place in my heart. Springs also always been my favourite season and I think it's really cute that I can celebrate the first day of spring at the same time (or around the same time) as Kai's birthday. I don't bake a cake every year, but it was nice that I had the chance to do so this year. Anyways... thank you, Kai, for existing <3

Same can be said about Nine and Overhaul

But for me these two would be more interesting considering their similar manners, and Chisaki might found interesting how Nine keeps his mask most of the time and is a lot more soft spoken than most villains.

It will be ironic if Kai somehow feels in touch with Nine despite their differences.

But obviously that won't stop them from being rivals. They would be a much more interesting version of whatever Horikoshi tried to force with Shigaraki anyway.

Something that irks me to no end about mha is Overhaul getting shoved in the back. Sure he had his arc but there was so much about his character that could’ve been used. Most don’t even know that he was in one of those Nomu daycare facilities they shoved Dabi in bc they glossed over it in the anime. They took his arms and threw him in the fucking backseat.
