Humiliation & degradation
There’s a difference between these two kinks, they are truly not the same. Even though people use them in the same breath and sometimes incorrectly as well. But there is a clear difference if you understand what you are talking about, maybe after this post you understand this kink a little bit better as well!
So first of all, there’s many types and styles of humiliation and degradation. (More about that later) And surely you can use these two kinks very well together. But to get a better hang of it and use them safely with your partner, it’s also important to understand the differences between these two. And the big difference between these two acts is the goal and intent when participating in these kinks.
The goal of humiliation kink is to make somebody feel embarrassed, shy or humiliated. Obviously with a layer of power-exchange underlying these acts. This could be on the more lighter-teasy spectrum of things or lean towards the more extremely humiliating spectrum of things. Again. It depends on what both people participating in this enjoy themselves! But the important part is how specific acts make you feel.
For example: teasing your partner profusely to make them feel shy or embarrassed is already a form of humiliation kink! Imagine verbally teasing your partner in public for instance, until they get shy and possibly around? Absolutely humiliation kink.
Making somebody go out without panties or bra? Humiliation kink.
But also, calling somebody specific dirty names to make them feel humiliated. Humiliation kink.
Making somebody do specific filthy acts, like cleaning my filthy musky dick orally, with the intent of humiliating or embarrassing them? Humiliation kink
Throwing somebody over your lap to spank them, while reminding them how wet they are getting over this. And how embarrassing that is. Until they get shy and embarrassed? Humiliation kink!
Making somebody wet themselves, and then tease them over this? Humiliation kink!
Obviously not everything is always humiliation kink. It depends on the intent and why you personally enjoy it. You can enjoy an act or play for different reasons. Like for example somebody could enjoy rimming because it’s humiliating. But they could also enjoy it as an act of worshipping, submission and care towards their partner.
Now the goal with degradation is slightly different. It’s not as much to make somebody feel shy or embarrassed. But to treat somebody like “less”. It’s more about treating somebody temporarily as less than you. With less dignity. Less respect. And thus to be treated like less than, within the established boundaries. This is a lot more about the difference in power between two people. One person is less. One person is more. One person has no/less power. One has all power.
Like for example: making somebody kneel on the floor naked, while treating them like furniture and reminding them of their lesser place. Degradation kink!
Or calling somebody a whore, slut or pathetic cunt. With the intent of treating them as less than you, with consent obv. Is degradation kink.
Pissing over somebody or inside their mouth and treating them like your personal urinal. Degradation kink.
So degrading acts can be humiliating, but humiliating acts don’t need to be degrading. The goal and intent is different. They can overlap. And be made to work together. And often they do. But that doesn’t need to be the case always.
And obviously, like with any kink, there is a vide variation for both these two kinks. Just think about public/verbal/physical and sexual humiliation or degradation as some examples.
