My new short "Foremothers" is available for your viewing pleasure via the link in my bio. ⚔️ I set out to make good creative use of a black eye from a minor procedure and found my thoughts wandering to my ancestors and how common it likely was for them to have such marks on their faces, either from accidents, abuse, or anything in-between. ✊🏼 https://www.instagram.com/p/CNDXPwBB2n0/?igshid=1n0al2xn7beb7

"On this spot we must either conquer, or die with glory. There is no alternative. Though a woman, my resolution is fixed: the men, if they please, may survive with infamy, and live in bondage." ~ Boudicca, as quoted by Tacitus. I treated myself to the Boudicca necklace from @shopdixi and Iove how powerful a connection I feel with the defiance of my Celtic ancestors when I wear it. https://www.instagram.com/p/CMuzGMah-lf/?igshid=1r83cffwl1atv

Welcome, spring! 🌸 Tomorrow is the vernal equinox when day and night are in balance. Light will overtake darkness from now on. ✨ This equinox is traditionally celebrated as Ostara and its origins are many-fold.🥚 What is the significance of eggs this time of year? What are some simple rituals to you can try?🌷 And why were Highlanders pouring ale into the sea? 🍺 To find out and get a hi-res version of this image, check out the Oldlore tier on my Patreon (link in profile). https://www.instagram.com/p/CMm8qATnkHx/?igshid=166z0fbenmt2u

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! ☘️🇮🇪☘️ My great grandfather was from Ireland. He had a terrible youth in an orphanage and became even harder when he faced such prejudice in the "land of opportunity." Shaped by strife, his mark is still felt on our family. Our Irishness was always connected to that pain and shame. Like many families, it was easier to turn a back to the Old Country and focus on the new. But I don't choose to forget. I choose to remember and to learn and to grow from his legacy. Perhaps my desire to visit Éire as soon as I was old enough to travel alone was an attempt to heal that damaged part of our family by exploring and experiencing and loving the land such an embittered man came from. So today, let us celebrate the beautiful and rich and yes, often sad, history and culture of the island whose blood runs through so many of our veins. 💚 Slaínte! P.S. Oldlore patrons - there's a special post for you about Saint Patrick's Day! https://www.instagram.com/p/CMh5SiOhne_/?igshid=1iqwri4ehdn4y

I do not miss your punishing winds that wail through cracks and gleefully knot hair, nor the driving rain and fog that hem the world in around one, as if as far as one can see is all there is, but I do miss you, Kerry. I miss your rugged fingers of land reaching into the sea, decorated with ancient stone fences. I miss the way the sun setting over the sea takes its time and paints the sky into several distinct works of art. I miss the calves and lambs kicking up their heels in the fields and the Irish spoken around the coal fires in pubs. I miss the west of Ireland.
