MANGA 【OSHI NO KO】 | VOLUME 8 PV
I needed to complain about this: i don't like art / edits were Kana has star eyes ( Ai's eyes ). Kana is different from everyone else, she has galaxy eyes, and that's precious. Kana isn't involved to this cycle of lies & manipulation. She's the only character innocent from the main characters, and that's her. She's different. I don't look down on everyone else ( Ruby is also one of my favorites ), but Kana isn't in the same category as Ai, Ruby, Aqua and Akane. And that's why she's so lonely 😭.
headcanon: Kana's innocence & source of trauma
The themes ' innocence ' and ' purity ' are often brought up in Kana's thoughts. How she believes it to be a flaw, that she's no longer pure and innocent. I've wondered what she meant by innocence, and couldn't understand well. Did she mean her cynical side? Being grounded and down-to-earth to understand what the entertainment world is like? Being willing to do anything for her efforts to be appreciated ( see when she almost consented to having sex with the director who praised her )? But reviewing some scenes on the manga I realized that's not the case.
Kana stopped being a child the moment she met Aqua. Ironic, isn't it? It was Aqua who wasn't really a child that 'robbed' Kana of her childhood. What I mean is: Kana was a child praised for her acting talent. She lived in a reality where she effortlessly became important. When she witnessed Aqua's acting, what she believed to be real acting talent, she realized she's never been a real prodigy. Her throwing a fit on set, wasn't the spoiled child wanting everything to go their way. It was her realizing she's never been talented or important enough, that she's been living an illusion that was going to fade. That was the beginning of her trauma, and when she actually lost her innocence. Arima Kana from the moment she met Aqua wasn't any longer the child who shone brighter than everyone, but a child who was going to eventually be abandoned if she didn't grow up fast enough to adjust to her environment. Kana, in order not to lose everything ( not to lose her mother ), she had to give up on the childish dream she had been living on, as a child.
Aqua is Kana's source of trauma, in a way. Yes, Kana would eventually be abandoned by her mother anyway. She was going to be disappointed and heartbroken far too many times, and maybe even give up on acting. But maybe, the real Arima Kana, the one Aqua has been trying to force to shine, could have continued to be an actor prodigy, and not the shadow of her talent she has chosen to show. Kana truly LOST her innocence when she was four years old, when a child shouldn't. She truly had to grow up, to the cynical self she hates.
And that's why it's Aqua's role to help her heal from her trauma. Comfort the child self she had to kill and mourn*.
concerning onk 124 leaks
To defend ONK, and even if I'll wait for chapter 124 to release, I need to point out: just because Ruby is being different with Aqua it doesn't mean it's going to that direction. Yes, she's all affectionate and lovey-dovey with him. Yes, she even made a reference on Gorou's promise to marry her. BUT. Ruby's most favorite person in the world she believed was gone forever, is by her side, supports her, and frees her from everything that has been making her suffer. How would she NOT be affectionate and loving with him? If it was Aqua and Ruby before the reveal, or Sarina and Gorou, everyone would be like: what a cute family, they get along well.
Just because Ruby is affectionate with the only person in the world that ever showed her love and whose death ruined her, it doesn't mean her affection is romantic. What she had said was true, after all: Aqua wasn't her family. He was someone who she happened to be born with. Gorou is her family though. So I understand the change in behavior. Also, I'm still doubting if judging by how damaged Sarina/Ruby is, if she has the mental age to understand romance.
I believe chapter 75 revealed a lot ( and at the same time nothing at all ) about Melinda's character and her relationship with her son. While it seems their interactions are rare, Melinda appears to absolutely love and hate her son simultaneously.
I think Melinda's real self was when she first arrived on the scene. When she held Damian, spoke gently to him, nearly cried / cried in worry.
The first scenario that comes to mind is that she's not allowed to raise her own son, and the one responsible is Donovan. I think she's forced to stay away from Damian, judging from the moment when she tells him not to tell ‘ that man ’ she came for him, or when she's alone with Yor and tells her ‘ household stuff ’ informed her about his time in Eden Academy.
She had to force herself to believe she didn't care for Damian, either because she didn't want to have any weaknesses in the eyes of her husband or anyone else, or because being away from her son hurt her so much she had to BUY her own act. The moment Damian talks about his father to her, she's reminded of the ROLE she's supposed to play and has eventually believed.
I don't think I've said anything worth noting, but I wanted to make obvious we deal with a woman who truly loves her son, but was driven insane because of the abuse of her husband ( emotional abuse, as if the control he probably has over her life ).
I think that also explains her reaction in chapter 66: She's indirectly asking for information about her son's wellbeing, and Yor reveals more than she imagined ( that Damian has made a friend, etc. ). To conclude, she's excited. On the contrary, when her son asks Anya the same thing ( directly this time ), he's disappointed with her answer. They both care for each other but can't externalize their real feelings.
I don’t want for us to try to kill each other again. Not with any of you. Not even with Eren…
