GOODBYE, HAKUNO-MUN
JUST GOODBYE
in the middle of summer // gawain
Hakuno blinked when Gawain gave her a stoic expression and answer. Ah, so that’s how it was. That was how it always was. She always did pay little attention to him but conversations between him and her Servant during the final round of the Holy Grail War rang through her mind as clear as day. How could she forget such an important conversation. How can she forget Gawain’s feelings of regret when he lost.
"…" Hakuno shut her eyes and took a breath in, figuring out her next course of actions and words. Opening them again, her expression went back to how it usually was. Dull and average but her eyes stared straight at him as she gave him her response to that.
"Are you sure about that? I realize that it’s not my place to say but…whether the Round Table is still here or not doesn’t mean you’re still not a member of it. You passed away as a member of the Round Table so…" Therefore, "…your status still holds whether you like to admit or not."
He was just running away from the past.
"Beside, you should know yourself by now. Saying that you are no longer a member of the Round Table would only hurt you. I know that you argued with your mother on days end about becoming a knight in the beginning so I don’t get why you would say such cruel things about your very own pride and joy." She gave him a small grin. "But I guess those type of things, I still don’t understand."
She was only but a child, and he was an adult. Adults sure have a lot of work going on in the world. Drinking halfway through the cup of water, the food that the two of them had arrived shortly and it pleases the girl because she was pretty hungry.
"Well let’s just leave that conversation behind, such a depressing topic like that would make the food taste bad." She was also running away herself. Really, she doesn’t know what else to say to him regarding such an issue. Whatever, she knows that he shouldn’t feel regret about anything but he was stubborn about it. That’s why she called him a brick wall and she’s not powerful enough to break him down, the most she can do is kick the wall and stare up at it.
Picking up her fork, Hakuno began to eat first. Obviously wanting to enjoy her food first and engage in conversation a little bit later. It was only a few minutes into their meals but Hakuno was watching Gawain carefully. She couldn’t help but felt bad but how often was it that she get to do something like this?
"Oh, that’s right, Sir Gawain." It’s rare for her to use his formal name.
"I read that you were quite…a gentlemen towards the ladies in your time. I would never imagine that you were quite active in…nighttime activities.”
Now she waits for his reaction.
Looking into her eyes sometimes felt similar to staring at the cover of a book that was painted a nondescript brown, revealing nothing about its contents. He would then feel subsequently surprised by what the pages revealed, which is certainly how it was for him at this moment. In some ways, the impression he had of the situation was that he had been mildly dazzled by the conviction in her voice as she rattled off her thoughts. It was not in his character to find annoyance in another person's concern being forced upon him, but he certainly did not expect someone he had not spoken to on more than a few occasions to reprove him; and so, he could not help the slight widening of his eyes.
"I do find joy in knighthood, but my pride lies in my qualities as a knight, not in the title itself." -- he pauses for a moment to think and take a drink of his water, successfully doing so without toppling the glass a second time -- "Besides, my qualifications for the Round Table have long since vanished."
He gives a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes as he finishes the latter half of what he's compelled to say, but the volume he speaks at is notably quieter and somewhat muted in contrast to his usual clarity. He did not particularly disagree with her comment about a lack of understanding on her part; the truth is that he still does not fully grasp the succession of events leading up to Camelot's downfall. All he could conclude from the mess during his reflections was his definite involvement in pushing the dominoes over, leaving him to be one of those who deserved blame.
Acquiescing to her desire to change topics, he contributed nothing more to the line of discussion. There is no use in trying to sort out what he already knew to be unchangeable facts, and he was less than eager to share his futile acts of retribution. As if their server sensed the unspoken plead for something to prompt a different atmosphere between them, the food was brought shortly after silence fell at the table. A pleasing scent stirred his appetite, and he focused on his warm sandwich for a bit with no awareness of a slightly impish glint in the brunette's normally dull eyes.
"...wh-wha--!"
The bite of his sandwich he had made a little before the metaphorical bomb she dropped into his lap became lodged in his throat, and he consequently ended up having a fit of coughs to remedy the obstruction in his trachea. If the impression he had for the surprise before was one of puzzled amusement, then the impression now was one of a perfectly timed and executed ambush. Fumbling for his glass of water, he tried to force out the last of his coughs.
"M-M'lady..." He slowly raised his gaze to stare at her expressionless face -- how is she even maintaining it after saying something like that? -- with a considerably stupefied look of his own. "Please tell me we are not discussing my past relationships with women over a sandwich and pasta..."
“I suppose we’ll see if you are singing the same tune after I use my ‘POLYGAMIST CASTRATION FIST’ ON YOU!”
"......what crude language -- although, am I to humor you and pretend you are capable of doing so?"
knightofthesun started following you
“You smell like goshujin-sama as well! I will not allow you to seduce her with your ‘sparkle sparkle’!”
"...I do not recall making attempts to seduce anyone."

WHY WAS HE LAUGHING ALL OF A SUDDEN!?
Did Hakuno perhaps got her research wrong? She knew there was at least ten different versions or more about the Arthurian legends so she tried to do the basic research since she really does not have that much to do a lifetime of reading. Well, she does but that was a lot of reading she had to do. She couldn’t help but twitch as Gawain slowly stopped himself from laughing himself to death.
"No, the image of a prince suit you too well." Hakuno said bluntly and quickly as possible, obviously rejecting Gawain’s opinion with her own.
When she first met Gawain and Leo, she thought she was meeting a pair of two princes, except one was in an orange uniform and the other was in white armor. (No matter how many times they say that Leo’s uniform was red, it was orange.)
"If you weren’t wearing the first time I met you, I would have consider you to be a prince instead of a knight when we first met." The girl told him honestly as she took a sip of her water. More importantly, she needs to figure out what to ask him next. Their food was about to come out soon..oh yes, there was that one little issue she always been curious about.
"Your personality in the legends is quite different than the one I know now." Was it a bad thing or good thing, she has not yet determine from the man. "You were…certainly…a lot more cheerful back then, Sir Gawain." Putting her hands under her chin, Hakuno just stared at Gawain. "You certainly sounded a lot cuter back then to but now you somewhat remind me of Julius." A damn shame. Truly a shame.
"For a person that holds the title "knight of the sun", you really don’t act like a sunshine boy." The look of disappointment on her face was somewhat painful.
While her question had driven him to laughing heartily for the first time in a long period characterized by formalities, the thin line she pressed her lips into suggested his amusement was not shared. Placing the palm of his hand over his mouth, he conceals the broad grin on his face until the muscles around the corner of his lips finally relax. Even as he lowers his hand, however, the smirk in his eyes linger. The lack of pressure for victory, along with the girl's honest inquiries somehow softened him ever so slightly.
Her bluntness suited her appearance quite well, unafraid to voice her opinions and without intentions to flatter. Not even his fingers and toes together could measure the number of women who tried desperately to win a man over for the sake of elevating her own social status. Though, he did not necessarily mind, or perhaps his focus was only on the king. Whatever it was, he miraculously managed to simultaneously establish strong relationships with women and maintain some sort of distance.
"Is that so...? I thought I appeared ideal to serve, rather than to be served. Do I give off an aura of royalty?"
It was his turn to express curiosity. In Camelot and on the Moon Cell, he knew very well of the comments likening him to a 'loyal dog,' but they were comments he took as compliments. Nothing could compare to the pride tied into the comparison, for it symbolized an unwavering devotion and perpetual usefulness to whomever he chose to follow. To be told he was thought of in a different light by his current Master, was that not intriguing?
".....you conducted some comprehensive research, m'lady. I have consistently been surprised today by what you have learned."
Certainly, another wave of surprise washed over him from being described as 'cute.' How nostalgic to hear it again, the word his uncle had so often used whenever he did something embarrassing -- and he could not help but feel a deep ache somewhere.
At this point, the bit of merriment from before had been flushed out of his system by her most recent speculations. To have noticed even what he himself paid little attention to, it was truly commendable. Yet, he did not offer a word of praise as he usually would have, instead giving a smile that bordered 'sardonic.' Truth rang in her words, of course, and by subjecting himself to her interrogation, he placed himself in a position to give a proper response -- even if it proved to be a challenge.
"'Knight of the Sun' is a title I carried long ago. I may still have my reputation and former titles attached to my name, but my status as one of the Round Table no longer stands."
There it was again -- that deep ache.
What he said was far from a satisfactory answer, as it did not directly address her concerns, but the minor change in his facial expression and the almost imperceptible tightening of his jaw suggested he already revealed more than he wanted.
in the middle of summer // gawain
But it would have been less of a hassle for everybody if Gawain didn’t eat only vegetables, even Hakuno doesn’t understand how one can survive on that alone? Shutting her eyes, Hakuno sighed and slightly shook her head. Kind lords huh, guess even Gawain was somewhat of a spoiled knight. Sitting back in her chair, Hakuno and the waitress were almost set into a panic when they saw the water glass almost about to tip over but luckily, Gawain managed to save it.
That was surprisingly clumsy of him.
Covering her mouth with her hand, Hakuno did her best not to laugh as she ended up handing the menu over to the waitress while attempting to do their orders without laughing. Oh this was great, the great knight like Gawain almost spilling a cup of water with that awkward smile. Leo would have a kick out of this if he was here. Her smile turned into a frown, ah she just went and made herself sad like that. No, she shouldn’t think about it now, it was all in the past and she and Leo already made their decisions a long time ago.
Anyway, their food would take a while so Hakuno need to figure out how to make small talk. She already had a big plan once their food comes out so for now..Hakuno would slowly delay it and ease into the conversation.
"Oh, that’s right Gawain. I looked up your legend today and I was hoping that you could answer a few questions." Her begins Hakuno trials. She’ll start off with the most basic one. "So, is it true that you’re actually something like a prince? There’s like different versions of your history, but it says that you’re basically noble blood and in a pretty high position too."
Even without seeing her in his line of vision, he knew very well that the muffled sounds of her voice were sounds of stifled laughter. He pinned his gaze to a circle on the table darker than the rest of the polished wood while withdrawing his hand from the glass, hoping for this moment to quickly transition into another, less embarrassing one. The aversion of his eyes persisted even when he could no longer hear amusement from across the table, and his thoughts began to drift towards a mortifying memory from centuries ago.
Recollections of a meeting with a light he could not tear his eyes from, a figure he adored and idolized until his chest could burst, a person who was only one of the many he had failed because of his callowness-- What had been close to a minute twitch of a smile at the pleasant memory did not come to realization, instead flattening into an impassive expression again. Often, the idea that his present self would have chosen a different path, but he dared not to hope in fear of the emotion morphing into denial, as it so easily does.
He only had the option of striving to fulfill his present tasks as a Servant, accompanying the girl in front of him, who was--
What?
Beryl greens met a warm gaze, the former widening while the latter glistening with curiosity. Unconsciously inclining his head a bit to the right and furrowing his brows, he tried to absorb the initial part of her statement, the part regarding some research of sorts. He certainly did not expect her to have gathered additional information about him, after having already done so when they stood on opposing sides of the battlefield. His surprise was added on to when she posed her question, but bemusement took dominance.
"......a prince?"
He repeated the word, tilting back in his chair just a fraction as he breaks out into laughter. Some time passes until softer chuckles replace the loud outburst, leaving a few tears lingering at the corners of his eyes.
"Please excuse my behavior-- You surprised me with your interpretation, but I suppose you could say I am a 'prince,' since my father is king. Although... the image of a prince does not suit me."
