Do any of you guys have suggestions for the best fiber to start with on a drop spindle?? I’ve been trying to learn for years now, but I’ve always had such a hard time with the fiber I have. Right now I’ve been using random wool roving, but I also have merino and alpaca pencil roving.

Updated an almost ten year old sweater by adding a few inch to the body - as the human body changes, so must its clothing. Also updated: choice of photography equipment, haircut, length of shorts.

Not updated: my taste in fashion, apparently.

I feel also deeply validated because I kept the leftover yarn for all that time. The stash is patient!

There's a notable difference between the stash yarn and the sweater, faded from the sun and much wear. I don't mind that difference at all, it's a sign of alteration and change and mending, and I think that's nice.

Today's tea is Cranberry Nut Muffin Green, a sample that I ordered some time ago and just rediscovered unopened today so it's high time I actually tried this one...It really lives up to its name, nice and nutty and muffiny! I think even someone who doesn't care for green tea would enjoy this one (well, assuming you do enjoy cranberry nut muffins). Also, suddenly I want to bake muffins.

Today's knit: 105 rows of leaves done on the Mallorn Shawl! It's at the point where the rows are so long that I'm only getting a few of them done a day (or none, if I get too distracted by LOTRO :-D) and also it's getting too big to pin out much of it, so mushy leaf pile pics it is for now. But I'm almost half through this last pattern repeat (though, again, it could take me a week or two to finish the rest of the repeat at this rate) and after that, leaf-tip bind off time!

I may not be able to carry the one ring, nor even the one ring bearer, but I could absolutely do second breakfast…and elevenses…and luncheon. And I’d do it in my hobbiton vest, made from romney spun entirely by me! I’m so excited to finally have a wearable of my own hand spun yarn!! This has been the goal for a long time now, and I’m excited to see what more I’ll make.

Listen I am not going to name anyone specifically, but pattern makers need to talk to one (1) fat person before they can post their patterns online.

I am so sick of finding a cute pattern, getting all the supplies, checking my gage, and starting to knit, only to find that my sleeves are a foot longer than a normal human because the pattern maker just multiplied all their numbers by 10 when they sized it up. I can't believe I have to say this but, just because my ass is fat does not mean my arms go down to my knees???

Five parts of this (ten part) shawl are knitted twice.

But fiinally, after a lot of calculating, knitting, frogging, re-designing, re-calculating and re-knitting it is on the blocking board. And I am quite happy with the look it turned out.  And it's so big that it exceeds the capacity of my "normal" blocking mats. 

Now I "only" have to write up the pattern (i.e. trying to make sense of my notes from 1,5 years ago that are written sloppily, partly crossed out and written over).
