It's About...Experience
In 1991, I took my first Spanish teaching position. A large, urban high school in Racine, Wi greeted me with a roster of 38 students. I quickly learned that excitement for teaching and my love of the language would not be enough to make me a good teacher so Claire Wagner became my mentor. She taught me to move away from book exercises, plan for real life experiences that were meaningful to students and go in with a sound strategy. Music, sports, entertainment, humor and personal experience in the culture would help lengthen a teenage attention span. She let her personality play a part in making students feel comfortable learning Spanish. I also had an entire department of 10 teachers to help me learn that experience is the best teacher and collaboration is the best colleague.
My experience in launching KnowTECH Training has a similiar parallel. I've quickly learned that excitement about social media and a love of technology are not enough to make my business successful. There are no textbooks that stay current with technology so I read articles, question mentors, plan for real life circumstances and allow my personality to become part of making clients comfortable. I've found mentors and colleagues in business to hear their perspective, discuss their experiences and gain new ideas. Experience and collaboration are essential to staying current with the trends and techniques in social media.
What business and teaching have both taught me is that practical planning leads to success. Use those experiences you've had thus far in life to bring personality to your business! Having a stategy, keeping the interest of your customers, and staying current with trends create an excitement for your products and services. KnowTECH Training wants to be your mentor in business and learning. I want to use my experiences to work along side of you and help you create a practical plan that suits your style and brings success to your business.
