I wore this look on my first day of teaching summer school at the Guilmette Elementary School in Lawrence, MA before I got unfairly dismissed from Teach for America during institute, therefore losing my job with Boston Prep. I'm remembering that time today as I looked for clothes to wear to teach my kids in the afterschool I work in the Bronx. Initially I didn't want to wear it because it reminded me too much of the pain I felt when I didn't get to say bye or explain to my kids what was going on after being removed for days from teaching them with no explanation and then dismissed days after. I wore it anyways cuz despite the pain, I'm grounded in resilience. I think about now how as much as I want to deter from formal educational career routes, that the youth reminds me and brings me back to my purpose and vision everyday. Brings me back to Love. Resilience. Hope that will breathe a future into this world. Thus this is why I'm a better educator today and why my work will always center education enveloped and engrained with love, political awareness and resilience. The youth I teach everyday and in the past has always taught me the greatness of how important the impact of love is. The love they bring up into this world is a very powerful love, one that lives and affirms what I do everyday.
