That was good, and she trusted Conner. Superman was nowhere to be found, but at least that was alright. Hopefully it meant that wherever Clark was, he was okay. “Ready as we’ll ever be,” Diana replied, tearing her gaze from the door to look over the island. Everyone was scattered, doing their own thing for the time being, but she was sure they’d notice the door was finally being opened. She was sure once everyone was inside, they’d close, “we’ll eventually need to swim back,” she began, “but we can think about that once the weather has cleared,”
Conner puts the key down, and Krypto is running past him into the fortress now that the doors are opened. He was sure everyone will slowly pile inside, better to escape the weather until it passes. He wishes his father was here — the world could use Superman right now. Conner was made to be such a man, but he will have to try filling those shoes. The world will have to settle for SuperBOY. “I’m not looking forward to that. I wish we could just fly.” He groans, making a face at the thought of getting wet again. He just got dry! “At least we should be safe in here. I don’t know what all of these trinkets are, dad keeps a weird collection of things, but I can read the Kryptonian at least! It’s cool, right?”
rhodey stood there as if he were in a daze, his jaw slightly slacked open as he slowly blinked and turned to the nearest person. “you’ve got to be kidding me,” he stated, before taking a step forward and gesturing at the ship, “pirates!?” he half yelled before giving one of the said pirates a stink face and turning back to the other. “i know i saw a dinosaur on main street and some weird ass romans, but pirates? come on, at least they could have given us something less disgusting and lethal?” he shook his head and heaved out an irritated sigh. “come on, let’s go see if we can convince them that there’s treasure or something on the other side of that portal of theirs.”
“I think it’s fascinating!” Conner says while floating in the air, legs crossed while his head is propped up by his hands that rest against his knees. “How did they get here? Do you think that the pirates would tell us all about their adventures? Can we join their crew?” The boys doesn’t have anyone to look after him, neither of his dads are here so the young Kryptonian almost feels like he could do anything within reason because Kara was here somewhere too.
Her eyes widened beneath her domino mask, heart racing as if she might fall rather than just being offered help. It took her a moment to clear her throat before speaking. “… Okay.” Tentatively, though knowing Conner wouldn’t drop her, Cassandra reached a hand out towards him. Bracing a foot on the icy wall, she untied her makeshift gear, letting it slip the same moment she pushed herself off to collide into Conner’s awaiting grip. She stared at him, riveted by the feeling of floating, nodded, then cracked a small smile. “Hot chocolate is even better. Do you think there’s any inside?”
Conner was quick to take her hand, holding on gently while floating the two of them over to the ground. “I’m sure there has to be food somewhere inside. I haven’t explored the place yet, we can search for some hot chocolate together.” He remembers what Kara said, how this fortress might be different than the one they were used to. He doesn’t really understand what that means, but it’s a new world so he wouldn’t be too surprised. No need to worry about that, thinking too hard on it might just give himself a headache. He sets her down gently so he can open the doors, letting Cass go in first then following behind her. “So, what do you think?“ He grabs her hand — a bold move. “Let me show you around!”
“i think if we have the option, none of us really want to go back in the water, so i can’t blame you there – either of you.” she agreed, offering a small smile to both him and krypto. kara took a glance around the fortress with a pause, not having had an opportunity to get a good look at it yet. “well, that depends on a few things – are we sure this is the same fortress we’ve known? i mean, we have a meshing of realities and if this is a different realities fortress, who knows what could be hidden around.” she mused, so far everything appeared as she’d remembered it but there was no guarantee. “even then, if there’s any really old kryptonian tech around, kal might not even know the full extent of what it can do.” through no fault of his own, of course, it wasn’t as if whatever remained of their planet came with a construction manual. “but mostly i just want to make sure nothing misinterprets the presence of humans as a threat.” she didn’t really want to freak him out, she was sure it was likely a non-issue, but being one of the only few with kryptonian dna, she wanted him to be aware. “i’m doing alright though, just wish i knew what was going on. if you’re tired though, there might be somewhere around her comfortable enough for you to get some rest.”
Conner does feel better that he wouldn’t be the only one that doesn’t want to to in the water. Even if they were indestructible they doesn’t mean it wouldn’t still be uncomfortable. He doesn’t really care what happens to himself, but thinks about Krypto first. He didn’t even think to look around, suddenly feeling like they’re somewhere they shouldn’t be, but it also felt familiar enough. “You have a point, it could be the fortress to a Superman of a different world. If that turns out to be true hope he doesn’t mind us using it for a bit.” He gets a silly thought for a moment, wondering what his dads would be like in other universes. What if Lex has hair in one and a Clark was the bald one? He laughs for a moment, at least able to keep his happy attitude despite the circumstances. “Do you think we should go inspect some of the tech? I don’t really want to sleep, Kara. I just woke up is all.” He says while yawning again. He stands at his cousin’s side though. “I’d rather stay busy.”
“After many failures, I assumed it was attuned to Kryptonian DNA,” she admitted, answering his unasked question that she could hear in his voice. She was glad Conner was here, not only because he would be a big help, but she liked the kid, despite the fact one of his dads was the supervillain, Lex Luthor. He was still part Kryptonian and he was a Titan. The fact he was being a hero while living with Lex Luthor was a feat unto itself, “the ice is unnaturaly strong,” she said, cracking asmile, “some are trying to pole vault in. But you’re right, we should make sure they don’t break anything before your father shows up,” she watched as Conner picked up the key, letting out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. At last, they could get out of the cold, “Will we be able to keep the doors open long enough for everyone to get inside?” Everyone who didn’t turn around and leave, that was.
It was interesting living with Lex while being a hero, not sure that his father ever really approved of it. He didn’t care about getting the blessing — wanting to do some good with that symbol on his chest. He’d go to all of the boring events AND press, but would be a member of the TITANS. Conner appreciates them trusting him to be part of the team, and here he was holding the key to the fortress. “It should be open long enough, no need to worry. I want to make sure everyone will be safe rather than freeze out here. We ready?” He says and begins to open up the doors that have been sealed this whole time. It was the right thing to do.
“I guess you’re right about. Part of the city seems familiar but I don’t know Gotham well enough. I’ve been there before but it’s still kind of blurry.” Sighing, it frustrated Clark that there were still some holes in his memory. Part of him was also still a little angry that he had been resurrected. It was obviously good to have seen Lois and his mother again, and be around his son, but it just wasn’t natural and he feels like there might be some consequences. Chuckling softly as Conner explained things about Lex, he patted his son on the back. “That’s Lex Luther. As long as he doesn’t tempt you to join the dark side, then it should be fine. His business is what he mostly cares about. I’m glad you did. It’s a good group.” Smiling, he had to admit that he was proud of his boy.
Conner can’t imagine what it was like to be redirected, but just wants to be able to help his father fill in the blanks if possible. Which is difficult to do when they’re stuck here! This new world full of what he doesn’t understand, only really understanding Metropolis. “I didn’t spend much time in Gotham, except to visit some of the Waynes. Tim is my best friend, and Cass is really cute.” He admits casually, keeping his attitudes lighthearted. “It’ll come back to you, dad.” He reassures while laughing a little. “He never made me do anything BAD, just a lot of press to make Lexcorp look good. He made me go to every event with himself. Boringggg!”
“I thought it might be a good challenge.” Cass admitted, fleeting smile sticking this time as her definitely cold-induced blush faded with the familiarity. They’d crossed paths just enough for her to be comfortable speaking to him, but not enough for the fluttery excited-nerves to fade. “Warm would be nice.” Not that she’d blatantly say so, but it was freezing, and it was only through sheer determination and good over planning she’d made it up this far up the side. “I say yes.” Glancing over at the impromptu rigging system holding her aloft, then back at Conner, she tipped her head in a question. “I can climb back down?"
Conner glances over at how Cassandra was aloft, not doubting for a second that she would be able to get down from here on her own. He does want to suggest something though just to be selfish more than anything and hold her at least once. “I can help you down if you want.” His hand reaches out to the girl with a smile. He can carry her inside, if she wouldn’t mind. “Warm is much better than freezing.”
“That isn’t right.” Frowning, something strange was going on here but Clark couldn’t figure out what. If this had happened to Conner too, then he wondered if everyone here went through the same thing. He, himself, had been on his mother’s farm, and suddenly found himself in another city that he had never heard of before. Gotham sounded familiar, but that was it. “Living with Lex is lame? I thought he could give you everything.” He was the rich one out of the two of them. Clark led more of a simple life. He didn’t need much to be happy. It’s how his parents raised him.
“I‘m no scientist, but I don’t think we’re in our universe anymore. Wherever we are I don’t like it.” Conner should probably give it a chance, but what about the lives they had back in Metropolis? Would they ever get to see Lois again? He almost misses Lex too, being able to annoy him for the most part. New Gotham was a mixture of what they knew and then something also unknown. “He can do that, but he’s so strict! There’s a schedule for everything and no room for fun in it! It’s all about Lexcorp usually, but whatever! It’s why I ended up joining the Titans — to do something I wanted!”
“It’s cold, It’s wet, and I just want to go home!” | conner kent and kara danvers
“and we will, soon – once the storm passes, i promise.” she offered reassuringly. the bright side was that the appearance of the fortress had gotten their attention, and now with them there, not everyone was still stuck outside in the weather. “there’s something with that fog, we can’t fly through it. besides, we should keep an eye out for everyone here.” kara took a quick glance around the fortress, the last thing they really needed was someone hitting the wrong button on some kryptonian tech. “are you doing okay?” ( @koncl )
Conner would rather not swim through the water again, it was dreadful the first time. “We’ll have to wait because I don’t want Krypto to swim through the water when it’s like that. He would much rather fly back to the city too.” The dog barks in agreement looking between the two Kryptonians. Conner scratches behind his ears, trying to relax as he looks over at his cousin. “Do you think there’s something dangerous in here that they shouldn’t touch? I don’t know a lot about dad’s stuff —“ He says while standing, leaving his jacket on the ground with the dog who just decides to lay on it as a bed almost. Which left Conner in his suit — the family crest on his chest. “I’m okay, just tired. How are you holding up?”
Clark couldn’t help but be a little amused by the people trying to get into the fortress. For him, and most of his family, it was easy, but for outsiders not so much. They could try and try but never succeed. “How could you even nap at a time like this?” Shaking his head, he was still trying to get the hang of being a father. It did help him distract himself a little from the memories he was trying to get back. At least he hadn’t forgotten about the kid. “Well, this is my sanctuary so I tend to store things in here.” Only the important things that he didn’t want to fall in the wrong hands. “You’d miss your old man, huh? Good to know.” Smiling softly, it did mean a lot to him.
Conner knows that they should really go let them in, not wanting to see them struggle for much longer, but they really are trying their best. Someone is kicking at the door he’s pretty sure. “I woke up from a nap! I was asleep in Metropolis and then I woke up in this place!” He exclaims dramatically, floating in the air for a moment. Krypto barks, trying to pull him down while also hovering in the air because apparently it was play time. Conner gives in to do so, but then stops when hearing Clark speak your again. “Sentimental stuff then? I like that! I really would, it wouldn’t be the same. Plus that means being left with my other dad, and living with Lex is so lame!”
Poised over the top edge of the Fortress of Solitude in sparse jerry-rigged climbing gear and doing her utmost not to shiver, Cassandra turned her head slowly to look at the figure suddenly floating beside her. The tips of her ears and her cheeks burned- with the cold, she told herself- and she blinked a few times as a mush of surprised joy and embarrassment tangled in her gut. “I was breaking in.” She acknowledged plainly, slowly. “Because you weren’t here.” Then a hesitant but joyful smile burst onto her face. “But now you are!”
Conner knows how unfortunate this situation is with the cold weather outside, but wanted to take an adventure out of the fortress. His dad wouldn’t mind, right? He was glad for making this choice when seeing HER — the girl he had the biggest crush on right now. He didn’t waste time rushing over, floating next to her. “Hey, beautiful. No need to break in anymore with me to take you inside. It’s warm! What do you say?” He couldn’t resist flirting a little, wanting to spend some time together while waiting for everything to calm down out there.
“Can we have just one relaxing day? Just one? No? Fine. I guess I’ll perish.”
Conner yawns, unable to stop himself from doing so even though he just woke up from a nap. He wasn’t so sure how well of a sleep that he even got, but the boy was here now! He decided to look around at the place, inspecting all of the various artifacts inside the fortress. “You sure have a lot of stuff in here, dad.” Kon almost reaches out to touch something, but decides maybe it was better not to with how Krypto was staring at him. He turns back around to walk over to where Clark was standing, focusing on that instead. “I didn’t know we were meant to have a relaxing day, but please don’t perish because I’d miss you!”
The moment Diana heard that voice, she whirled around, a big smile on her face when she saw it was indeed Superboy and she wasn’t hearing things, before she pulled him into a big hug. “Superboy!” She pulled out of the hug, quickly, running her hands up and down Conner’s arms in a motherly fashion. “I’m glad you’re here,” she took a few steps back, everything he said finally registering. “You can?” that was a relief. “Thank the gods. We’ve all been trying to pick up the key for what feels like hours, but even with my strength, I cannot lift it. Meanwhile, others,” she glared at the fortress for a moment, “have been trying to force their way inside. If you can get us in- that would be wonderful, especially with that storm.”
It makes Conner happy to see someone so happy to see HIM, especially when it happens to be Diana. She was someone the boy would always respect no matter what, so helping her out sounds like fun! “Wonder Woman!” Conner was getting a hug from her! This is truly the best day, returning the embrace before they pulled back. The weather was rotten, and none of this really made much sense. “I can!” There was some shock to his voice, almost as if surprised that she couldn’t lift it. “I don’t think forcing their way in will work, and I don’t want to find out if they would upset my dad if something breaks.” He walks over to the key though, smiling while lifting it up with his hands. “You won’t have to wait much longer!”
“it’s still really cold here and i’d appreciate it if anyone would get that door open so we can get warm.”
How is it possible to still be tired? Only Conner would sleep through such a major change, but at least he was here NOW. It should count for something at least. He was currently knelt down adjusting the cape Krypto was wearing who’s listening to all the nearby conversations. He was disoriented and everything was so loud. The boy will adjust to the new world, but it’ll just take a few hours. He stands up to walk up to the woman asking about getting the door open. “I know how to get in. The place belongs to my father, but he showed me how to open it.” His hands are out inside the pockets of the jacket covering his suit. “Why is everyone out here anyway? Weird time for a party.”
“it’s still really cold here and i’d appreciate it if anyone would get that door open so we can get warm.”
It would figure Conner would show up late, waking up somewhere new suddenly was overwhelming for the boy. He felt comfort in Krypto being here with him who really is the best dog. He was fortunate to have been wearing his suit when being thrown into this brand new world — his family crest was a symbol that meant something to those that knew it. Seeing the fortress brings him some kind of comfort for a moment until a group of people trying to punch their way inside comes into view. Conner steps closer, enough to hear a familiar voice talking to someone else. “I just woke up from the weirdest nap I’ve ever had because I sure wasn’t in Metropolis anymore. I know how to open that door though. My dad showed me!”

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOUR CHARACTER LIKES ABOUT NEW GOTHAM? SOMETHING THEY DISLIKE? DO THEY MISS THE WAY THINGS WERE - OR DO THE LIKE HOW THE WORLD IS NOW?
IS IT WEIRD TO THEM TO SEE MULTIPLE TYPES OF PEOPLE AND CREATURES AROUND? OR ARE THEY USED TO IT? WERE THEY ORIGINALLY FROM ONE OF THE TWO MAIN CITIES - OR SOMEWHERE ELSE?
Conner doesn’t have a lot of experience with getting to know what other cities were like outside of the few he was introduced to over the course of his short life. He mainly stayed in Metropolis or Smallville so this is all very new to him. He has been to Gotham a few times, but not enough to memorize the layout as he did with where home was. He was living with Lex before the changes — while being part of the Titans and becoming close with Clark. The boy being here in New Gotham is a chance to have some more freedom since the father he was living with was rather strict. There is always going to be something he misses about the old world, especially the people who were left behind in it. He doesn’t mind being around other creatures, being half-kryptonian himself doesn’t make him completely human either. You could say that he’s used to it and embraces it!
WHERE WAS YOUR CHARACTER WHEN EVERYTHING CHANGED? ARE THEY SUSPICIOUS OF EVERYONE OR ARE THEY TRYING TO REMAIN UNDER THE RADAR? HAVE THEY REUNITED WITH THEIR FRIENDS OR ARE THEY LOST?
WERE THEY AT HOME IN BED? OUT PATROLLING THE STREETS? IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR? WHAT’S HAPPENED TO THEM NOW?
Conner has a problem with being too trusting, but is also stubborn at the same time. He has a charismatic personality so he tries to be everyone’s friend, unable to tell the difference sometimes if someone isn’t one. He doesn’t want to believe the world can be that awful, but when one dad is a superhero and the other dad is a supervillain you see two sides to the world. Conner despite everything just wants to be good — and even Lex could see it. He was probably taking a nap on the couch when everything happened, waking up somewhere completely different with Krypto trying to wake him. They are late to the party, but better now than never, right?
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION —
ANYTHING YOU WANT US TO KNOW? ANY HEADCANONS?
KON-EL or EXPERIMENT 13 was created by Project Cadmus using a mixture of Kryptonian and Human DNA. They used Clark Kent and Lex Luthor as the genetic templates. They’re his parents, and he does call them both dad! He looks like Clark, except his eyes are all Lex!
He was artificially aged to be sixteen years old. He was also implanted with a high school education. They basically gave him Clark’s abilities, and Lex’s smarts.
Kon was freed by the Newsboy Legion before they implanted safeguards to control him. One of the boys gave him a leather jacket before sending him out into the city.
Lex was quick to figure out about the clone escaping as he had played a part in illegally creating the boy. He wanted a clone to serve him at will, but soon after taking the newly made Kryptonian into his home finds out that it was quite hard to make him do anything he didn’t want to.
Kon watches a lot of 90’s sitcoms, which really irritated Lex because the catchphrases would rub off on the boy and he didn’t much care for hearing it all the time.
