How’d you choose your Korean name?

I think I was actually aiming for a Chinese name at the time ^^; I knew I wanted it to fit with both languages though and since at the time I was more familiar with Chinese syllables I decided to look for a Korean name that also sounded Chinese. I think I just found a name generator online that gave random Korean names (with hanja which helped with translating it to Chinese) and when I found one I liked (I may have just pieced mine together from syllables from other names the website gave me), I went to italki (I think) and asked the native speakers there if they thought it sounded alright and it wasn’t secretly a curse word of something ^^;

Day 365 - The End

Look at that! I made it through the entire year! :D I think I did pretty well this year all things considered. I took a look back at the post from day 1 when I talked about my Korean level going into this whole thing and basically all I knew was the basics of Hangul and how to write 안녕하세요 ^^; Needless to say I’ve come a long way since then :) I definitely didn’t stick to the plan I set out at the beginning of the year but I still accomplished quite a bit! I worked through two whole textbooks (Sounds of Korean and My Korean), worked through some of two more textbooks (Korean Grammar in Use and Elementary Korean which I’m still using). In addition to that I created and completed three memrise courses (My Korean, letter names, and phone vocab) and worked through parts of two more (again Korean Grammar in Use and Elementary Korean which I’m still using). And to top it off, I’ve worked through most of the duolingo course that was released a few months ago. As for how my actual Korean level has improved, I now am completely confident with Hangul, am comfortable with the basic phrases and grammar essentials (speech levels, honorifics, etc.), and have started to progress in understanding spoken Korean. I still have a long way to go but I’m very happy with what I’ve accomplished this year and am proud of all the progress I made :) 

It’s probably a good idea to also talk about what my plans are for next year so I guess I’ll do that now. I don’t really have anything concrete just yet (unlike last year ^^;) but essentially, I don’t think I’m going to continue using this particular blog. Instead I’m going to switch to using my general language blog, language-365. This is because I don’t plan on doing a post a day, but rather less frequent (weekly?) updates and I think it would be better to separate that from this project (can I call it a project? ^^;). In terms of what I’m going to study next year, I’ll continue with Elementary Korean and hopefully with the other books in that series, as well as memrise and duolingo (I may go back to using the English for Korean speakers course when I complete the Korean for English speakers tree). I also want to try and focus more on listening and writing so I’ve got a couple ideas for that that I may also try.

Day 364

I guess I kind of forgot to look at Elementary Korean today.. oops ^^; I did do a good amount of duolingo and some memrise to though so :] Tomorrow is the last day so I’m going to take a look back at the posts I made a year ago before I started and compare to see how far I’ve come ^_^

Day 363

So I worked on a bit of memrise and duolingo today. I tried to find the audio for the section of Elementary Korean I wanted to work on today but I couldn’t so I kind of gave up on that for today ^^; But hey, it’s still better than yesterday so I’m okay with it :)

Day 362

Had a bit of an off day ^^; I just did a little bit of memrise and duolingo.. I’ll try to pick it back up a bit tomorrow :)

Day 361

I did a bit of review and a bit of new stuff on memrise and duolingo today. I also read through the dialogues from chapter nine of Elementary Korean. I haven’t finished the sections from chapter eight on memrise yet and also didn’t read through the vocab for this chapter so I was a bit lost but I’m sure I’ll figure it all out eventually ^^;

Day 360

I just realized there’s less than a week until the end of the year :o I swear it was march like yesterday ^^; Anyways, I pretty much just caught up on reviews today (memrise and duolingo), nothing to exciting.. I’ll try to get another chapter of Elementary Korean done before new years :)

Day 359

Merry Christmas! (If you celebrate it ^^;) Seeing as it’s Christmas, I just did a little bit of memrise and duolingo, just enough to keep the streaks going ^^;

Day 358

I did a bit of memrise and duolingo today. I started a lot earlier than yesterday so it was all new stuff. I didn’t do any Elementary Korean today but I did read the lesson notes on duolingo for the next couple lessons so ^^;

Day 357

Mostly I just did memrise and duolingo today ^^; (also wanted to clarify that the Elementary Korean I finished up yesterday was just the 8th chapter) I think I’m going to skip the exercises at the end of this lesson of Elementary Korean and just move on to the next chapter when I get the change :)

Day 356

Okay so I did quite a bit of duolingo today since I had a few new levels to review in addition to the new one I wanted to finish. I didn’t do a lot of memrise today but I did finish up Elemetary Korean so maybe that makes up for it? ^^;

Day 355

So I almost forgot to post today because I got sidetracked earlier and never really refocused but I still managed to get some memrise and duolingo done this morning. I had planned to finish up the lesson notes for chapter 8 of Elementary Korean today but didn’t get around to it so I guess that’s what I’m doing tomorrow :)

Day 354

I did a bit of new stuff all around today. I finished up a skill on duolingo and went through some new words on memrise. I also read through another little bit in Elementary Korean :) It’s a bit slow but progress is progress so ^-^

Pretty much the same as yesterday, I just finished getting caught up on memrise and duolingo. Also like yesterday, I read a bit from Elementary Korean :)

Day 352

I started getting back on track today! I worked through some of the reviews that had been piling up on duolingo and memrise and also got started reading through the lesson notes for chapter 8 of Elementary Korean :) Hopefully I can keep this up ^^;

I was travelling a bunch today so I only had time to do a quick bit of memrise and duolingo again ^^;

Just memrise and a bit of duolingo again but I’m looking forward to doing more soon :)
