Oh yes. She knew about him - the genius of his family. And she had been certain that the ânew kidâ would be the captain. But Hiyori had to breathe a sigh in relief when this round-faced little boy was not going to be in charge of her for this mission.Â
Hiyori had been adjusting the little exploding tags in her jacket when he called her name. Well, at least he was respectful - but most Uchiha were like that. All sulky and sullen and quite miserable to work with.
âWhat?â She spat.
âForgot yer snacks? Scared? Is that it, huh? Well, my advice is- just donât die.â
Little did she know, he would very well make his way to captain of the ANBU in a notably short time indeed. But for now, he would make do with his freshly-appointed role as a member of the ANBU.
He was young... Much younger than his new peers, but no less qualified.
âOh no, nothing like that. I just wanted to let you know that our captain is running a little late,â he said pleasantly, a contrast to her gruff attitude. He had so happened to cross paths with the captain when the man was called in for a meeting with Danzo. âIâm Uchiha Itachi. Itâs nice to meet you. Weâre teammates, arenât we?â

Itachi did not know who the little girl was âtalkingâ to, but the man certainly wasnât the captain. The man, taken aback by her harsh tone, simply shook his head and excused himself, not about to spend another second in the presence of someone who looked like she was about to pelt him with stones.
Unperturbed, the young Uchiha approached her, large eyes curious.
âExcuse me. Sarugaki-san?â

Window washer;
koredesaigoda:
Yes. One would think that, wouldnât they?
However, this was Konoha. And all sorts of strange and abnormal occurrences were somewhat normal here. I mean, Naruto ran around in an easyjet orange jumpsuit and Sakura had a literal bullseye on her back- so it really shouldnât even be shocking that some poor girl had accidentally slipped through a window instead of on a roof tile.
It happened. When you spent all your energy during the night on a rhinoceros of a man to gather intel on an uprising⊠there should be a small allowance of your chakra levels to slip.
Your focus⊠your feet⊠your- Kami-Sama⊠those clavicles, glistening with beads of water as the light caught them- Ino swallowed and quickly gabbled an excuse. Something that didnât fly with the genius of the Uchiha family.
He clearly didnât allow night shifts to deter his focus. No sir.
And he wasnât buying Inoâs excuse of being a window washer.
âIâm Yamanaka Ino â and I slipped â and Iâm so sorry!â She hung her head down, only feeling a twinge of regret at missing out on that glorious view of a topless firebreatherâŠ
No. Stop it, Ino.
She chanced a glance up. â⊠Are you still cross with me?â
@koredesaigodaâ
Yamanaka Ino--Thatâs Yamanaka Inoichiâs daughter, isnât it? The little girl who would often pester Sasuke--
Not that that mattered any at the moment.
In all honesty, if it had been just about any other situation, Itachi wouldâve been a lot more lenient on her. So much more, that he wouldnât push back on the slight surge of sympathy for her, deciding to ignore it almost entirely.Â
Because she had dropped in on him whilst he was in midst shower.
He neednât more justification than that.
Quelling his embarrassment and mortification, Itachi steeled his voice, muscles tense as he addressed the young florist. He just wanted to finish his shower and forget this ever happened.
âJust get out.â The only sign of forgiveness was the hint of exhaustion towards the end of his words. It was just a mistake, after all.
Still, he was going to have to board that window shut.

How do you go on when, in your heart, you begin to understand there is no going back? There are some things that time cannot mend. Some hurts that go too deep.

Robin enjoyed history, only because it offered her a little insight into what could possibly occur in the future. She liked how history often had patterns that all magical creatures and non-magical alike, should learn from. History was to be revered⊠and if history had taught her anything, it was that people like Itachi only came once in every era there existed. These were the people who shined through the pages, the movers and shakers of the world⊠the kind that didnât even know how remarkable they would be until the time came.
But, she decided with a smile, he didnât quite want the spotlight on him just yet. At least⊠she was happy to be sharing his company for the moment.
The dark-haired woman glanced over at him, amused. âAh, but it was an extra fifteen minutes that I was waiting- the best fifteen minutes of reading Iâve had in a long time.â
She was only half-joking. However, she was also⊠not willing to share the work she did for her rather cruel new, employer. Itachi would hardly be impressed.
She ordered a stronger coffee and a slice of cheesecake and waited for it to arrive before resting her chin on one palm.
âI knew you would have a good story.â
âFifteen minutes? Youâre joking.â
That wouldâve meant that she had arrived half an hour early. Did she have an errand to run around the area or was she simply overly mindful about the time? In Japan, that wouldâve been well-praised.
But whatever it was, he did not think that it was any of his business to inquire any further. Although they were on good terms, they were not close either.Â
In his memory, she had been that much older student who tended to pop out here and there, always with a book in hand and a bemused, observant look in her eyes. Always observing.
He ordered a slice of cheesecake as well. Blueberry.
âI never said it was good,â he said. âBut it is something. It involves a certain someone accidentally setting Nifflers loose at the Auror Headquarters. I donât think I need to tell you that that had caused quite a ruckus at the office.â Why, one had even tried stealing one of his colleagueâs set of gold teeth.

Boy in black
koredesaigoda:
Inoâs mortification of her previous actions was only superseded by her genuine affection and regard for the younger man before her. She still couldnât believe he had grown up so much. Of course, time had passed⊠but in Inoâs mind, those beautifully hand-written birthday cards were from that young genin student with round, marble-like eyes.
âAahaha, how long has it even been since I last properly saw you? Goodness⊠youâre taller than Sensei now,â she laughed,  although the woman reached up to pat his hair in a good-natured fashion. He would always be the boy in her memories⊠no amount of learning jutsu could change that.
Even now, he was smiling beside her, relatively calm and not at all upset by their previous encounters. ANBU must have given him a strong stomach. Ino was sure she was twice his age and should not have hit on him, considering their past connectionâŠ. But she could claim that she was drunk on one occasion.
Despite the change in him, she could still detect that warm, fiery chakra nature in him when they embraced. Her lips curved a tad wider and she squeezed him playfully.
âHehe, Iâm well â but clearly not as well as you. Ah, I heard you got promoted to lead ANBU, congratulations!â The fair-haired shinobi beamed at him with pride and patted his arm. âIâm sure that with time, you can even become Hokage!â
In some aspects, Ino was still that naĂŻve Jounin. She did not believe that being an Uchiha would impede his chances to become Hokage- after all, Itachiâs ability was unsurpassed for now.
âJust donât forget about me when you become Hokage, ne?â
He let out a brief chuckle as she patted his head, as though he was still a child. It was not something that he normally allowed, but he owed much to the elder. To describe her as motherly during his short time as her student would be a gross understatement.
She had smothered him, more like. He had lost count of the number of times she had carried him around, cooing excitedly. His father had thought it was embarrassing.
His mother, on the other hand, had found it amusing.Â
Shisui had found it downright hilarious.
He leaned back slightly, and--deeming it appropriate to let her go now, allowed his hands to slowly fall to his sides. Any longer and that wouldâve been overstepping his bounds.Â
âI daresay Iâm not that good, but thank you. But even if I do become Hokage, I would hardly forget the person who helped start my journey after the academy.â After he graduated, he had been placed under her tutelage as one of her genin students. That experience had only lasted for a few months.Â
And after that...
Itachi thought about it, considering her earlier question. How long had it been since they last saw each other? That one drunken encounter excluded.
âPerhaps... It has been about ten years since we last saw each other? More than. Iâm 20 now...â And with his eyes and heart still set on becoming Hokage.

"Itachi-Kuuun~!" Ino's sing-song voice is floating over as she apparates beside him. "How long have you been at home? Tell me all about your adventures now! I became Quidditch Captain - - I heard you destroyed a nest of dementors?"
@mindwalkerninja
âIno----!!â
There werenât many instances where Uchiha Itachi could be taken off guard, but this was unfortunately one of them. Apparition was the one way Ino could startle him.
And in his surprise, the apple at the top of his near overflowing bag of groceries dropped and rolled across the grass. They were in the garden in front of his house.
âA little warning next time.â

In the past, he wouldâve been taken aback by surprise, no matter how momentarily, but he was used to her by now. Her, and personalities much like hers. Sunny and energetic, like Naruto, Shisui, and Sasuke when he had been a child.
He met her with ease, though he almost took a step back when the impact hit. Balance regained, he wrapped his arms around her, bending slightly to speak to her.
âGood morning.â Raven locks brushed against her blonde fringe. âThank you for waiting for me.â
He had been gone for a very long time.

Ino was wary of the questioning, but she was also a lot more prepared than anyone gave her credit for.
[text] Aw, thatâs a shame. I suppose it just happens to be that my line of work involves a lot of reading to improve my writing. Hmm⊠I liked the novel Pride and Prejudice. Mr. Darcy appeared aloof and distant, but in the end, he was the one to understand Miss Bennet. :)
And that rain scene⊠it was meltworthy. Inoâs heart stopped every time that actor stared into Kiera Knightleyâs eyes and told her how ardently he admired her.
[text]⊠I know of some. Canât say I really enjoy them. Sasori is the rudest person I have ever interviewed. I donât even know why heâs so famous.
Ino supposed it was mostly international fans. But truly, if she met that grumpy redhead ever again, it would be too soon.
Her brows arched a little at his answer, but in a good way. He was bound to be athletic, but she hadnât known how much. Smart, athletic⊠cool⊠He really was a good catch.
[text] That sounds fun. Perhaps we should visit a cafe together. Iâve always wanted to go.
Very well, then. He would accept that, albeit with the slightest initial reluctance.
[text] Ah, yes. That makes sense. Youâre quite right.
[text] Price and Prejudice is a masterpiece. It has been quite some time since I last read it, but the work is impeccable. It is hard to find fault in that classic.
Itachi had never really been one to read romance novels, but Pride and Prejudice was one of the rare exceptions. He could not say that he was fond of the book, but he conceded that it had been masterfully written.
[text] Sasori is... He is the artist who works with puppets, am I correct?
The man had a flair for the macabre, if he recalled correctly.
...
He paused momentarily before typing out a reply, considering her suggestion. She hadnât exactly made the best first impression; although he had forgiven her, he still remembered what had happened.Â
[text] Perhaps. That might be nice.
