Suna Rintarou - Back to us
"Dad you look weird standing like that" your five year old son, Micheal said looking up at his dad. Suna took his hands out of his pockets, reached in and ruffled his dark brown hair.
"Haven't seen you in two weeks and that's the first thing you say?" His basil green eyes narrowed down on his son, almost amused. He opened the backseat door and buckled him into the car seat.
"you look like a zombie hunched over like that." Suna stares through the rear view mirror and tries his best to hold back a chuckle.
"Your mom used to say the same thing" he said and focused on the road. His son distracted, Micheal stared through the window watching as a kid walked with both their parents. He hardly remembers any moments of you and Suna together in the same place. He never questioned why but recently he's gotten very curious as to why.
"Dad, why don't you live with us? Other people live with both their parents. I go back between you and mom". He says, looking down with a visible frown, his lips trembling. It was obvious micheal was trying his best not to cry in front of his dad. Suna had hoped that Micheal would've asked you. You would've known how to handle this.
"We used to, when you were younger, probably too young to remember. I wasn't as present as I should've been, it upset your mom especially since it was probably a lot for her to take care of you when you were a baby. It was something we decided on." Suna said as he quietly looked back just to see his son's lips tremble, his eyes were now glossy as tears threatened to escape at any second.
The decision made was inconsiderate on how it would affect Micheal as he now has to grow up watching other "complete" families.
"What about me? I want you and mommy to be together." Micheal was now crying his words muffled by his sobs but coherent enough for Suna to understand what his son felt. He stopped the car in front of the house. He got out of the car and got Micheal out. Swooping his son in his arms. He wiped his son's tears gently.
"I'm sorry" he apologized to his son. Suna knew the reason for splitting up was his fault, now his son is crying to him that he wishes to see both you and Suna together. He softly caressed his son's back in an attempt to calm him down a bit. As he unlocked the door to his house, Micheal leaned into Suna. His small hands wrapped around Suna. For a while everything was silent.
"Daddy what if mommy says yes, I think she still loves you" Micheal speaks up, his voice is much more composed then a few minutes ago when he was crying.
Suna stiffened at his son's words. Something he wanted to avoid was to know how you felt about him. He doesn't think he could handle finding out if you hate him or not.
"Why do you think your mom still loves me?" Suna asked. Micheal turned his head up, his eyes red from crying. Micheals eyes resemble his own basil green eyes.
"Grandma suggested for mommy to go on a date with grandma's friend's son." Suna tried his best to keep his cool, you've told him before how your mother is.
"What did your mom say?" Suna asked, he couldn't lie to himself on how curious he was at that moment
"Mommy said no, that she's not interested. I think mommy still loves you or she would've said yes to grandma" Micheal said looking up at Suna.
Suna sat on the couch and Micheal got up immediately.
"Daddy why haven't you tried to win over mommy again? She works a lot but when she's not working and I'm not with her. She must feel lonely, I don't want mommy to feel lonely." Micheal frowned, Suna could only stare. Asking himself what had stopped him from trying to start things over with you.
"Are you sure your mom isn't seeing anyone?" Suna asked skeptical about the information his son is giving him.
"Yes I'm sure, Dad please I want mommy to be happy all the time" Suna smiled softly at his son. His hand reached out and ruffled Micheals hair.
"Okay but you'll help me convince your mom?" As soon as Suna said that Micheal hugged his dad. A huge grin plastered on his face.
"Dad, can I use your phone please.?" Micheal asked and Suna just handed it over to him.
Micheal went on the messages app and turned to Suna. "Daddy, which one is mommy?". Suna pointed towards one of the pinned contacts.
"That one that has your baby picture" Suna said as Micheal clicked on it. Pressed the call button, immediately Suna panics.
"what are you doing?" Suna whispered as you had now answered the call.
"Is everything okay? You usually call.."Your voice was heard and Suna stares back at Micheal who looks like he's about to say something.
"Mommy I'm not daddy, Daddy's in the bathroom and left his phone. I miss you" Micheal said. He had a mischievous grin on his face.
Suna smirked at his son's antics, there's no doubt in Suna's mind that Micheal had gotten that from himself.
"I miss you too, how's it going at your dad's so far?" You asked and Suna just sat back on the couch listening to his son talk with you.
"Good Daddy is very funny, but mommy don't get mad okay? I forgot my art project at your house..." Micheal said and Suna raised an eyebrow at Micheal. All he did was put a thumbs up towards his father.
"I thought you said you had everything? — It's fine to ask your dad if he can drive you here."You said as Micheal thought to himself by responding.
"I don't think he can, Daddy has a stomachache. He's been in the bathroom for a while." He said and Suna immediately glared at his son who smiled innocently at him.
You tried to hold your laugh but it was heard by both Micheal and Suna. "Is that so? I guess I'll go drop it off then. When your dad's out, tell him okay?" You asked, shuffling from the room can be heard on your end.
"Okay mommy, I'll tell daddy when he's out. Bye-byeee" Micheal said as he waited for you to respond.
"byee see you soon," you said and hung up moments later. Suna high-fives Micheal.
"okay Daddy you need to get ready for mommy, wear something nice but not too nice. Ima go to the garden okay?" Micheal said looking at Suna with a very serious face.
"Yes sir" Suna said, making his way to his room to change into something a bit nicer. Micheal headed to the small garden in the backyard.
After a few minutes Suna came out of his room with a pair of grey baggy pants matched with a black compressed shirt. He made his way to the garden and found Micheal picking out tulips and baby's breath.
Suna smiled as he watched his son from afar. He can't even lie that he bought this house thinking of you. A small garden just for you, and the backyard area for Micheal to come and play around.
"Daddy come here!" Micheal yelled and Suna nodded making his way towards the garden.
"what's up?" Suna asked as his hands went inside his pockets.
"take those and wrap them up with the cloth from the kitchen, the pretty one that's not used." He said, wiping dirt off his hands as he followed behind us.
"So what exactly did you plan?" Suna asked as Micheal looked up.
"It's a secret, uncle Samu will be here soon, okay?" Suna's eyes widened at his son's words.
"Did Atsumu and Osamu convince you to do this?" Suna deadpanned and looked at his son who smiled as if he did nothing wrong.
"No, I wanted to do this. Uncle 'Samu and 'Tsumu just helped me plan it. Only uncle 'tsumu said he cant because he has a match today." Micheal explained and Suna just sighed.
Osamu entered the house and waved at Suna who was still lost. Osamu set up his ingredients on the counter.
"Is she here yet?" Osamu asked and Suna looked up from his phone.
"She said she's almost here"
"Daddy here give mommy the flowers okay?" Micheal said as he handed Suna the bouquet of flowers.
"Okay, but let me write something first." Suna said as he got a piece of paper and a pen. He wrote a short note, and put it in the bouquet.
His heart is racing, it's been a while since you've talked to him for more than a minute. Are you two really ready to be together again? Did you still love him like he loves you?
"Don't get nervous now, I'm sure she'd like the surprise," Osamu said as he now had his apron on.
"Daddy mommy is here!" Micheal says excitedly as he looks out the window. Suna nods and heads to the front door. Opening it to see you getting out of your car.
"Mommy!" Micheal runs towards you and hugs you immediately. You ruffled his hair softly and looked up at Suna. He waved as he made his way towards you. Your eyes landed on the bouquet.
"Hey. Here Mikey and I prepared this for you" he hands it over to you and you take it in your hands.
"Oh thank you," you said, smiling up at Suna. His heart tightens upon seeing you smile.
"Come inside, Osamu is over too." Suna said as he waited for your response. You look down and Micheal is smiling widely at you.
"oh okay then." You agreed. And Micheal pulls you towards Suna. He's walking between you and Suna. His left hand reaches for Suna's.
You tried your best to avoid Suna's gaze.
"haven't seen ya in a while, the food is almost done" Osamu said as he carefully added final details on the onigiris. He had some already prepared from his shop, sitting on the side. The plating was neat displaying his signature look for his restaurant.
"Oh. Osamu, it's been a while" you said and looked around the house. You've never seen it, it was a spacious house, the decor was definitely something Suna would pick. Your eyes landed on the photos of Micheal on the wall, then you saw it. A photo of you asleep, in your arms was Micheal who was also asleep. It was taken the day Micheal was born.
"Is it okay if I keep it up?" Suna asked you as he noticed you staring at the photos.
"Yeah it's okay" you smiled at him before moving your attention to Micheal who was staring in awe as Osama continued to prepare the onigiris. Suna silently tapped his fingers against the marble counter.
"Here ya go" Osamu placed the plates down on the island counter. He sat next to Suna, immediately eating, tuning out your voices.
Micheal like, Osamu started eating the second the plate was in front of him. You silently eat the food, the last time you ate Osamu's food was years ago. Its still so delicious, your mind goes back to Suna.
Wondering why he even got you flowers, you don't want to jump into conclusions and embarrass yourself so you push away those thoughts.
After you finished eating Suna took your plate with his empty one. You looked up at him. "Thank you"
"Don't thank me, it's the least I can do" he said as he placed the dishes in the sink. Osamu whispered something and Suna just nodded.
Suna made his way towards you, reaching for your hand. Finally for the first time this afternoon you made eye contact. His basil green eyes searching for your approval.
"Can we talk right now?" He asked, it was abnormal for him to seek you out first. This felt so foreign yet the feeling of his hand around yours reminds you it's the same Suna you've known your whole life.
"yeah of course" you replied almost instantly, you silently cringed at yourself for responding so fast. You felt how your heart beat rapidly as you let Suna guide you into the backyard.
Micheal was about to follow you and Suna out but Osamu picked him up into his arms.
"Sorry kiddo but you're stuck washing dishes with me 'kay?"
"Okayyy" Micheal whined as Osamu carried him over the kitchen sink.
When your eyes landed on the garden they widened. It had various flowers and roses, and there was a wooden trellis wrapped in wine and flowers. There was a stone path leading up to a wooden bench.
You sat down on the bench, his hands remained in your hand. His fingers rough due calluses probably caused from playing volleyball all these years. His fingers gently tapped your palm.
"So what did you want to talk about?" You asked, looking at his eyes.
"I wanted to talk about us, and Micheal." Suna said, the way his eyes looked away showed just how nervous he was at this moment.
"What about us?" your voice barely holds up. Suna nodded and paused before speaking again.
"I'm sorry that during the time you needed me the most, I wasn't there for you. I'm sorry it took three years to finally apologize. I know it's shameless of me to come beg you to take me back, but this isn't just about us two anymore. Micheal also needs us both, he's also hurting because of this decision we took. So please let us start over as a family." He asked you, his eyes looking at you. Searching for any sign of approval.
"You're an idiot you know?" You said smiling as your free hand cupped his cheek. His eyes widened slightly, his ears burning red as he looked at you with those eyes.
"I regretted my decision so much, you know? I was afraid that maybe you thought I was unreasonable. I thought you might've moved on and I was the only one stuck in the past" you paused before speaking.
"I want us to start over, I missed you a lot." You said as Suna smiled, a rare smile that only showed up on rare occasions.
"I missed you too, way too much" he said as his hands now reached your face.
"I used to ask if this was fine but it's been too long," he said leaning in. Gently kissing your lips, you kissed him back the second you felt his lips on yours. His other hand wrapped around your waist, as your arm reached to the back of his head. Fingers tangled in his hair. After what felt like forever he broke the kiss, allowing you to catch your breath.
You both stared at each other. He was about to lean in for another kiss before Micheal began yelling from inside. Immediately you turned to see Micheal run towards you two.
"Mommy, Daddy, I knew that you two still loved each other." He said looking proud of himself, you felt Suna chuckle from beside you.
"You're way too smart for a five year old" he said now ruffling his hair.
"Thank you for helping me Mikey" told his son who looked so happy.
"Daddy, does that mean we can live together now?!" Micheal asked excitedly as you laughed.
"Yes, if your mom wants to move in here." Suna turned smirking over towards you. You rolled your eyes playfully at him.
"Mommy! Do you want to?!" Micheal asked instantly.
"Yes Mikey, I want to move in, but that means you and your dad need to help take everything out of the apartment okay?" You pointed a finger between the two of them.
"Okay we'll help right dad?" Micheal asked, turning to Suna who nodded.
"Yes, I'll probably do most of the work either way." Suna said playfully, teasing his son.
"Mommy don't give daddy any more kisses" Micheal demanded as you burst out laughing.
Suna looked offended, reached in and kissed your forehead then cheek, before finally placing a soft peck on your lips.
"Too bad" Suna says as he watched Micheals reaction, Micheal clearly regretted bringing his parents back together.
Later that afternoon, Micheal was passed out on the couch. Head resting your lap. Suna was on the other side. An arm wrapped around you, the other softly went through his son's hair. Osamu had left a while ago after the movie had ended
Suna turned to you, kissing you briefly, careful not to wake up Micheal.
"Did you read the letter?" Suna asked shortly after breaking the kiss.
"Not yet, pass me the bouquet" you said as Suna reached for the bouquet. Handing it towards you, watching as your hand reached for the letter.
Even if you aren't ready, I'm willing to wait.

"You still doodle on every note? With the same red pen as before?" you smiled remembering his silly notes and doodles he did on your notebook.
Suna kissed your forehead "obviously"
Side Note: This was made for my lovely and amazing friend @ghxoulzii. Some context for this last part about Suna writing notes and drawing with a red pen comes from my previous Suna one-shot "Missed you" specifically the layout on TikTok that included littles doodles around the boarder with both red and black pen. It's a small detail I added but I'm not sure anyone caught on lmao. Anyways ty for everyone who has liked my previous posts here on Tumblr, I really appreciate all the support ily all sm.
