i find it extremely difficult to engage with x-fans lately. i don't think many of them are intelligent people, and i don't feel bad for saying that, either. i feel like newer comic readers simply get into comics for the sake of discourse rather than actively engaging in the story they just read. there's no critical thinking, there's no actual discussions to be had...just beating a dead horse over and over.

when people say "media literacy is dead", they aren't saying: you cannot physically read. the point is that you can't think critically about what you read. you don't understand anything beyond its surface. and it shows when you regurgitate the same drama, the same character vs this character nonsense every week, and you accept meager crumbs from editorial, but it's okay, because your fave character or ship outsold the other.

i realize this could simply be an issue with x-twitter, but regardless, it's very exhausting. i understand i can keep my head down, read, and go about my business, but it's very exhausting when i want to share what i've read, my thoughts, and ideas...and everyone is stuck on a storyline that happened 20+ years ago.
