Seeing this Transformers SDCC exclusive Blaster figure takes me back to this time five years ago when I was developing my first IDW comic, an Optimus Prime graphic novel where he's the new kid in school and the only way he connects with other kids is by playing his synthesizer.

All Tuned Up was based on my own teen years playing in bands. The hook was simple: Optimus is shy but forms a group to compete in the Battle of the Bands. Hasbro's reaction was, "Why is there so much music stuff in this?" Development ended in Fall 2021 when the TF license was pulled from IDW.

For the next six months, it was pitched at IDW as an original story with the same title. But that eventually stalled out after my prospective collaborator committed to another graphic novel and I began to work on Godzilla comics.
