New OC: Shoelace Shawn

There’s a lot to unpack here so bear with me.

Shawn exists in a dystopian sci-fi western setting where the land is blasted and lawless, and justice must be sought out and dispensed by one’s own hand. An avid fan of the old martial arts, Shawn has trained endlessly to master the nunchaku despite their obvious obsolescence when everyone has a gun. Fortunately he met an old and mad gunsmith, who fashioned Shawn a pair of gunchucks to give him an edge in both ranged standoffs and melee combat. Each barrel can only hold a single bullet at a time, but the reload mechanism is tied to the bandoliers at his hip. As Shawn does that fancy over-under move you see in all those kung-fu movies, the receiver passes over the bandolier and a new bullet is inserted into the emptied chamber. Are they more effective than a regular-ass gun? Not really.

Now you might be wonderin’ why the boy’s epithet has nothing to do with his skill with a gunchuck. That’s because he’s just really fast at tying shoelaces. That’s it. That’s all anyone will ever recognize him for. He also has a yo-yo that doubles as a lasso for when he has to wrangle up some no-good varmints. Yee haw.
