I smiled to myself, thinking of America, her against the other girls. She was pretty, if a bit rough on the edges. It was an uncommon type of beauty, and I could tell she wasn’t aware of it.
That anon was asking if you actually read the book
no, and i don't plan to. it's not worth my money or my time, and frankly it shouldnt be worth anyone elses either.
I think you have a misunderstanding of the the story Me Before You. Have you read the book? Do you know the depth of the story? It's not just he chooses to die because he's disabled, or a relationship fixes depression. He is an adult and he makes this decision after thinking it over for a long time. I support physician assisted suicide because I would rather have people die safely surrounded by family,if they choose to do so, with good memories, than live the rest of their life unhappily
great job trying to talk over me and invalidate my feelings as a disabled person
stop trying to fight me on this, all you're doing is reinforcing that abled people don't give a shit about us
Doesn't that mean that you would hate a lot of us in the selection fandom then? Because a lot of people really like this book. I'm happy that she's directing it because the film was a good adaptation so the selection would be great as well.
yeah, i don't like that people think it's a good story. frankly, i couldn't care less about how good an adaptation it was, it still tells us our lives aren't worth living, and it terrifies me how many people don't see a problem with that.
Hi, I'm sorry but I was wondering why you don't like Thea Sharrock? She didn't choose the ending. I think she's a great director because the adaptation was amazing so the selection would probably be great too. I do wish that he didn't die but Will would've suffered his whole life because they knew for sure that he was never going to get better. I'm sorry that you think this book has a bad message or whatever but I think it was wonderful story. 😊
i don't like her because she willingly was involved with and defends a project that basically tells disabled people we would be better off dying young than living disabled. i don't care that she didn't write the story, but she agrees with it enough to direct the film version of it. the fact that everyone thinks he would've suffered his entire life is the problem. yes, there are lots of us who are suicidal, but that doesn't mean it should be romanticised. when you're disabled, you don't need to be fixed. you don't need to be saved. as i said, a wheelchair is not a death sentence. disabled lives are just as worth living as any other life. do you have any idea how crushing and heartbreaking it is to see a trailer for a movie with a disabled main character and think that you're finally getting representation only to find out he kills himself just because he's disabled? it sends the message that suicide is an acceptable and/or normal response to becoming disabled, and frankly, it's repulsive.
yeah, i'm sorry guys. if thea sharrock is directing the selection movie, i honestly don't know if i'll see it. as much as i love this series, i just don't think i can support a director who not only directed a film that basically says disabled lives aren't worth living, but also has the audacity to speak over disabled voices and tell us we "have the wrong idea".
we are worth it. we are more than capable of leading long, successful, fulfilling lives, and we do. a wheelchair is not a death sentence, and a relationship doesn't cure depression.
...
God bless America
No, really, she paid off my school loans.
i'm so angry that book was written and that movie was made
i'm so angry that so many people are excited for that movie
i'm so angry that so few people notice or care that it's a horrible message
i'm so angry
. . .
okay i can't speak for her directing skills because i've never seen any of her work but like couldn't we have gotten a director not associated with such a grossly ableist movie
it really hurts to see someone make a film that tells disabled people their lives aren't worth living not only be celebrated for that film, but also continue to get work, especially with a series that means so much to me
perspective
i just saved the url eady____ (her choice’s last name) and i might switch to that for a little while next month
@anon - i know!! she didn’t deserve that!
i made an aesthetic graphic for eadlyn and her fiance that is scheduled to post on may 31st, so if you’re into those keep an eye out for that
