✧ Fun fact: Most of the shoes featured in Marie Antoinette (2006) were specially designed for the film by Manolo Blahnik.
The pair of Converse (which may be seen in the eighth image) was one of the several anachronisms placed deliberately within the film by Sofia Coppola to emphasise Marie Antoinette’s youth.
My New York Challenge A friend and I decided to go on a quick trip to NYC for Spring Break. Figured this was a perfect opportunity for me to work on my sketching skills, so through it the three days, my goal is to fill all 32 pages and the covers with notes, doodles and sketches. Of course most of out first day was out walking and exploring, but hopefully I can make up for that today.

Watercolor Illustration :: 2014 Year of the Horse

Happy Chinese New Year!
Here's the final illustration! I didn't get a chance to post it yesterday in time for the actual Chinese New Year, but better late than never right? Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it, especially considering I haven't picked up a paint brush in a couple of years.
I'm still not too confident in my illustration skills, but my new year's resolution is to become a better designer and refining my illustration skills is part of that resolution. If you want to see some really awesome watercolor illustrations, check out my friend Allie's Tumblr and Etsy Shop.
My next personal project will be Valentine's Day themed, which means I have two weeks to do it. Better think of an idea!

Breaking out the watercolors for the first time since graduating. The past few years I’ve been doing small doodles to celebrate the Chinese New Year. In the honor of my Zodiac year, I decided to fully develop my 2014 Horse doodle. Just finished a test run since my watercolor skills are pretty rusty. Overall pretty happy with how it’s looking, but I want to refine the text a little more. Hopefully I’ll have it done by Friday!
UPDATE :: 2013.11.03
Happy November everyone!
I know I've been pretty terrible about updating this blog, but I promise I'll work on getting better at it.
I'm still working at American Greetings for their in-house design department, and as the holidays are approaching, we've been getting busier and busier. The nearing holidays also mean that it's time to start to start thinking about Christmas gifts. I've been scouring PInterest and Tumblr trying to find a good craft to give out to people. I've got some ideas in mind, I just have to do some testing to make sure it will work out.
I'm also working on updating my portfolio and website. I should be photographing some of my projects from work so I can continue to build my portfolio. As for my website, I'm currently hosted at Cargo Collective, but I will be making the switch to Squarespace in the upcoming months. Squarespace will just offer me more control over the look and content of my online portfolio as well as some better social media integration. I've also been looking to start a blog about how design impacts my every day life, and Squarespace will allow me to have a blog hosted on my own site instead of using Blogger or Wordpress. Sure, I could use my Tumblr for this as well, but I would prefer to keep this Tumblr mostly for inspiration, reference links, and work-in-progress posts.
My last project that I'm hoping to make more headway on soon is opening my own Etsy shop. I've been wanting to open one for a while, and since my friend, the wonderful Allie Lenaburg, just opened her own Etsy shop recently, I've been inspired to focus on an Etsy shop once again. I've just got come up with a few more items I can sell.
So while I work on all of that stuff, I'll do my best to keep this Tumblr as best updated as I can. After all, I do have the rest of my Christmas gifts from last year to post, as well as some pictures from my trips to Vancouver and Chicago this past summer.
Until then, have a wonderful fall!
