Assemblage project !
British artist Jane Perkins uses all sorts of small, found plastic objects and a glue gun to create awesome assemblage pieces. Jane calls herself a “re-maker” for the way she repurposes everyday objects such as toys, shells, buttons, beads, jewelry, curtain hooks, springs, and so on. It doesn’t matter what the objects are, as long as they’re the right size, shape, and colour.
The three beautiful pieces seen here are from her current series, entitled Plastic Classics, for which “Old Masters are given a contemporary twist.”
"Impressionist paintings are the perfect inspiration for my work. It needs to be viewed in two ways (as in Impressionism) - from a distance to make sense of the whole image, and close up to identify the materials used (the brush strokes)."
Visit Jane Perkins’ website to view many more examples of her wonderful artwork.

Happy Chinese New Year! According to the Chinese New Year Calendar, 2014 is the year of the Horse and it got us thinking about our favorite equine partners. Here are some amazing photos from Nick Cave’s HEARD•NY. In case you missed it, last spring we invited visual artist Nick Cave and his team to transform Grand Central’s Vanderbilt Hall with thirty colorful horses brought to life by sixty Ailey School dancers. For more info about Nick Cave’s HEARD and to learn where this groundbreaking work has traveled (all over the world!), click here. Gong Xi Fa Cai!
