Judy Garland for ‘The Wizard of Oz’, photographed by Victor Fleming, 1939.
Dorothea Wieck was only married for 3 years. After which, she had other affairs, but never made a commitment.
What if Dora had someone she liked very much, but couldn’t have? What if that person didn’t have romantic feelings for her? Could this be a reason why she stayed single for the rest of her years?
In her 1979 interview, it did not mention anything that will tell us she denies being a lesbian. She sort of regretted taking the role in MiU, bc it labeled her as gay to most. She didn’t want that. She had a reputation to keep, not to mention the growing natzi era of her time. Homosexuals were sent to concentration camps and persecuted. Staying in the safe side was probably Dora’s priority.
What if this person she liked was a female? A female who matches her standards. Dora wasn’t an easy lady to please. This lady must have stolen her heart, and opened up her true desires. She gave Dora a reason to embrace her true self. Dora felt safe with this woman.
But in worse cases, what if this woman wasn’t gay at all, and all that love she has been getting from her was just mis-interpreted. It must’ve broken her spirits, but she doesn’t express this. Dora is a good actress of her time, and pretending to be happy or sad is nothing too difficult for her to do.
Can you imagine Dora being secretly miserable? She got all the attention from the men who wanted her, but she couldn’t care less, if it’s not what she’s looking for.
53 years have gone, and Dora is still single, forgetting about marriage, about romance, about the rarerest kind of love she once knew. All her life, she had kept this depressing feeling locked up in the deepest part of her heart, never to be opened again.
Unrequited love drove her to give up totally. But this did not mean she threw herself with a man. No, she wouldn’t do that. It was unnatural,as it is for her to wear revealing clothes. Instead, she married her second love, the theater.
These are Dora’s emotions. Songs of beautiful, unrequited romance.
Sad truth and songs fit perfectly.
I LOVE YOU
Without knowing how, or when, or from where
I love you simply, without problems or pride
I love you in this way because I don’t know any
other way of loving but this,
in which there is no I or you
So intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand
So intimate that when I fall asleep, your eyes close.

Description to this photo was “tolle AK Schauspielerin Dorothea Wieck am Klavier sitzend” oooohhh… when I had read it… (English var. “Great actress Dorothea Wieck sitting at the piano”)
I love this photo very much.
(I can play on a piano (50/50) although nobody did not taught me (my dear schoolmarm taught me play on a pipe (simple variant of flute))).

Dorothea Wieck and Nina Moise, 1933 (holding hands)
Please let me be there instead of Nina. DW sooo cute, beautiful, amazing and I can not find words that explain how strong I love her.
I could fell in love with Dorothea exactly after seeing this photo if I’d do not love her know about her. ooohh
Go to hell, Hitler
