A movie that speak on the supernatural existence of memory. It’s a message that blends quietly into the script of the field. Your mind may not pick up the message, but your spirit will become alert to the message.
Reform New China, Propagate Christ (1927)
One of my favorite Chinese Christian art piece. It's so powerful especially for the time in Chinese history. I actually shared this piece in my Christian Art History class.

A recent essay\movie review I wrote for a class on the Israeli movie Tikkun (2015). Enjoy seekers ♡
Excerpt:
When nearly everything has been stripped from him; even yeshiva, the void becomes an endless empty maze. Searching for God through the fog, Aaron begins losing all sense of direction until the Father calls on abruptly while walking back home. He gets hit by a car.
With the internal and external aches and pains that consumes him, the bed becomes his new sacred place of grounding. It’s all he can think about because it has become the only place of comfort he has left in this realm. The bed is gentle to the soul. It allows you to escape reality and step into a more pleasant form of existence. One that doesn’t abuse you for your soul. The bed takes you in at your most vulnerable and weak moments without a word of judgement. It just cradles you and grants rest until you regain your strength.
This intimate sacred moment of rest from Aaron while trapped in the void is an experience Spanish mystic priest, St. John of the Cross can relate to. Mingling with the void is an an experience that he wrote to in the 16th century in Dark Night of the Soul.

Looks like I know what movie to watch tonight. Review coming soon
Posing in front of an advertisement for the film Yūkoku (“Patriotism”), in which he played the part of an army officer who commits hara-kiri. Mishima endlessly rehearsed his own death.

Queer films are so important for so many reasons. I am grateful for all of them truly🤍
“the dark ones appear and battle furiously through the night until blood drips from the stars and pandemonium rings out in my room”
— Yukio Mishima
Currently trying to brush up on my Chinese and learning Japanese. I'm tempted to add Thai to that list.
Yukio Mishima's Patriotism (1966)
Recommended read and watch
The statue of the Greek god Apollo in Mishima's mansion, under which he'd spend lots of time meditating and sunbathing.
There's an obvious connection to Apollo being a solar deity and Mishima's own self-discovery with the sun and the outdoors concerning his philosophy of the Sun and the Steel and the abandonment of hidden-away nocturnal thinking.
Although he is truly a complicated figure in Japanese history and literature, this is a Mishima safe apace🤍

As a religious studies scholars, I've been enjoying studying and learning about how Christianity as been portrayed in East Asian countries. I love seeing how they make the faith into their own through culture. It's beautiful and I look forward to learning about the history even further.
What a beautiful movie. I truly felt like I was looking into a mirror into another universe. This movie truly spoke to ne in terms of gender, spiritualit, art and passion.
Kabuki theater is such a beautiful art form from Japan and I look forward to delving deeper into the art then I already was previously.
