The fact this isn't a painting is a testament to one of the greatest feats of set design and production I've ever seen.

wow, yeah, that... that looks very obviously like a painting. i can't even imagine how you get a set to look like that.

look at how the costumes are a mix of reflective satin and gauzy folds and chunky gilt ribbons and feather boas. the human figures *blend* into the painterly background, because their clothes and hair are constructed to have *brushstrokes*. that's absolutely magnificent.

Do non Brazilians/Filipinos know about Brazilippines…. Brazilians and Filipinos randomly decided that we were two sides of the same coin and have now become besties

As a Brazilian, let me try to explain the origins of Brazilippines:

Brazil and the Philippines are often seen as the “black sheep” of their continents. Like most of Latin America, the Philippines was colonized by Spain for centuries, which is a unique experience for them to have within Asia. This makes the Philippines not only “different” within Asia, but have more similarities with Latino culture than most Asian countries.

Brazil on the other hand is by far the most Asian country in Latin America, as there are millions of Brazilians today of Asian descent due to a large migration from Japan and China in the early 20th century. Asian culture is quite embedded into Brazilian culture, and Brazil is actually home to the largest Japanese population outside of Japan.

The Philippines is the most Latino Asian country. Brazil is the most Asian Latino country.

Brazil is also rather isolated from the rest of Latin America due to us being the only Portuguese speaking country, while the vast majority of other Latinos speak Spanish. From what I’ve gathered, Filipinos also feel isolated within Asia.

Also, Brazil and the Philippines both have extremely vibrant, albeit chaotic gay culture. Gay people in Brazil dominate dodgeball, while Filipino gays dominate volleyball. Gay fandom culture in Brazil and the Philippines are both absolutely feral. Both countries seem to produce endless amounts of funny gay people.

As a Brazilian, I have an uncanny ability to see any online video and know it was taken in Brazil just from vibes. I’m usually right. However, every single time I’ve been wrong, the video was actually from the Philippines. Every. single. time. The vibes of the Philippines are so similar to Brazil that unless I can hear people speaking Tagalog in a video, I often mistake Filipino viral videos as being Brazilian.

Another iconic thing about Brazilippines in this olympics specifically is that both Brazil and the Philippines won our first gold medals by defeating Israeli athletes

"Tuta ng 'Kano" is a derogatory term for Gov't who favors the U.S. with 'kano (kah-nò) as shortened term for "Amerikano" a direct translation in Tagalog for Americans.

"Tuta" means young dog or pup. If used as an insult, it could mean mongreal or subservient slave

There are lots of conspiracies between the relationship of Reagan's administration (U.S.) and the Marcos' regime (PH). But nothing is more telling than the fact that the Marcoses fled the country and was exiled to Hawaii.

But don't take Guerilyera's words. She just hates every country that conquered Philia. Unless they're helping her kicking each other out of her backyard.

Borne of grand ideals and aspirations.

Maharlika should have been a mark of our freedom, away from the namesake of a King that never set foot on our land. And yet, her path meant a breaking away from democracy. The price of denying a dead king, was to accept an unjust (political) dynasty. the making of a monarch.

Edsa was supposed to be peaceful protest. And yet she is steeped with blood, betrayals, and propaganda. It took the death of one "elite" "rich" guy, to "spark" the movement, when thousands has died before the oligarch.

Maharlika is the sweetest of nightmares to wake out from. She would have been glorious, a monarch of pearls and freedom, if she was real. The fact that she isn't, made the dream all the more bitter.

Edsa likes to have a peaceful breakfast of pan de sal in the morning. And likes Filipinos to have basic human rights. She also ends her sentences with 'po' and would call everyone 'kuya' and 'ate' regardless of age since she is the baby. She always wear apron and cleaning gloves because lately she gets to clean up the messes of the government. Forever the maid of Philia.

Philia and Edsa

Philia at her peak was one of the Tiges Cubs of Asia. Until recession came after the EDSA Revolution which ousted Marcos. The Marcos' unexplained wealth remained untouched and despite the numerous international rulings for human rights volations against the late Marcos' Estate.

Martial: I may not remember you, but I know who I am.

Marked Martial: You forget Martial, history has a fucking tendency to repeat itself.

Guerilyera is always the resistance whenever the Philippine is left alone or betrayed. The lingering will of Philia when she is captured or comatosed. That's why she was present during Marked Martial's rule.

*Marked Martial is the era of Marcos' Dictatorship. Both inspired from Marcos and the markings he got from being blinded and used by the dictatorial rule which started when the 1973 Constitution was ratified through a questionable plebiscite.

Philia: Ang ngalan ko ay Pilipinas

Martial used to be Philia's protector. But during the 1970's he was blinded and had seen a vision "Maharlika" and fell in love. When he recovered, he wanted to recreate Philippines in the image of "Maharlika", but almost ruined the country in the process. He actually have shattered memories of that time. That he can't understand why sometimes Philia would reject him.

Del Pilar - born on 1899 during the Philipline American War

Guerilyera - born 1941 during the Philippine Japanese War

Del Pilar tried so much to fight during WWII but he was exiled and have to leave his baby sister to America. When Pearl Harbor was hit, the Pearl of Orient was left at the hands of Imperial Japan. Philia declared that she will fight and donned her colors as "Guerilyera", Kumander Perlas Silang.
