Final Pt.2
I’m sure that many of us are familiar with the social networking website Myspace. A few years back it was the number one social networking site in the world and the thing to have. Though it was number one since around 2008 its users have declined dramatically since then and now. Myspace has used several marketing and branding tactics to get back it users who have switched over to different social networks such as facebook and twitter. I chose this site is because I want to access what could have been the major reasons why myspace users have drastically declined over the past few years. When myspace first started it was just a place to just connect with friends, there quote for their website when they first started was “a place for friends”. At this time it was possible to have millions and millions of friends. It was definitely a place for teens and young adults. To me when facebook came out it targeted a range of group ages, it was only a place for young people but a place where older people could connect with friends and family. Facebook took away Myspace’s younger audience and garnered an older audience. Since the decline of their website Myspace has made big changes, Their layout is more simplistic and minimalistic. Now it has becoming more of a music and news media website/source. The reason I do not think this was effective in bringing back myspace users is because we now get our news from twitter and more quicker and more direct from the people we follow. These websites have came in and expanded the concept of social networking and myspace just changed their original concept that they started with, which I assume myspace users, who stuck with myspace after they started declining, were not pleased with. I am not sure what Myspace could have done to keep their users, unfortunately our society is full of trends and fads, that can change from one day to the next.
