Why is it that every time we learn about Aang, we also learn about Zuko? Like no joke, I know Zuko and Aang have some sort of bond by destiny but I didn’t remember that their stories are intertwined that much in the narrative.
When we know about the flashback of Aang running away from his duty as the Avatar, as the same time when we learn about why Zuko is banished? We know why they are the way they are at the same time!
When Aang is victorious, Zuko is defeated (The Siege of the North Pole). When Zuko is victorious, Aang is defeated (The Crossroad of Destiny).
After The Sieage of the North Pole, both Aang and Zuko are set on a journey for their development.
When Aang learns Earthbending is also when Zuko learns how to redirect lightning from Iroh! And both of these have meaning for their grow.
After The Crossroad of Destiny, Aang is considered gone again by the world and Zuko came back to his home and regained his honor.
Aang accepted that the world needs to consider him dead for practical purposes, and Zuko didn’t find happiness in the life that he chose.
It’s funny to me to realize, that in the TCoD episode, Zuko chose Azula's side and betrayed Iroh which he shouldn’t, and Aang chose to go into Avatar State in the middle of the battle, which resulted in him being killed at the hands of Azula.
Like Azula is scary, she is a great manipulator and deadly. She succeeded in manipulating Zuko to betray Iroh and strike a deadly strike at Aang. Amazing.
It’s more interesting to realize that the soundtrack of the ending ost is the drum of Sun Warriors.
The final season is where their story meets a conclusion and has to payoff. And oh boy, that was a satisfactory payoff. I don’t know how to put words to how great that episode is.
And they also have an important battle at the same time. Agni Kai between Zuko and Azula, the fight between Aang and Ozai.
And their moment before the ceremony.
“I can’t believe a year ago, my purpose was hunting you down. And now…”
“And now we are friends.”
“I can’t believe a year ago, I was still frozen in a block of ice. The world’s so different now.”
“And it’s gonna be even more different… when we build it together.”
Their hug is so precious.
