upon hearing kyah’s words, the leader nods slowly. “it’ll be bad for the gang, and i certainly don’t have much time to fucking stitch each one of them up if they get into a mess, that’s not what i’m supposed to do in this gang.” she doesn’t mean to sound so… inconsiderate, but it does, and it’s normal for anyone who knows her well. sometimes jiwon has a different way of expressing her affection, and while she’s usually warm towards those people that she adores, she can be a little mean to them, appears to be, because if they are beginning to get used to her rough ways of loving them, that’s when jiwon decides that she’ll keep them in her life.
although not for long, because baek jiwon is not a keeper.
“but if you would rather leave, i guess that can’t be helped. you’re free to do that anytime you feel like,” she says before adding, “before i kick you out, that’s it.” the leader knows she has threatened to do so earlier, way back when they first saw each other for the night, before things suddenly got heated between them. she was angry, always is, but maybe not anymore. it’s insane, how quick things have changed between them — jiwon could still remember her yelling at kyah, of how she’s trying to help, at the sudden attack of kiss. the kiss actually surprised her, so bad that she just had to keep on insulting kyah to get rid of the butterflies.
the walk is filled with silence, and honestly she could have seen it coming. there’s too much to process, there’s too much going on with them at this moment, even if they are just casually walking towards kyah’s place for now. she’s only going to walk the djinn home, but after what has happened, she doesn’t even know anymore. if one second they could be yelling at each other, and the next one they are suddenly fucking, jiwon has no idea what else is gonna come for them, if she keeps on lingering around kyah like this. perhaps she’s curious, couldn’t help but to look forward to what kind of surprise they could discover if she follows through.
lost in her train of thoughts, jiwon is brought back to reality when she feels kyah’s touch on her collar bone, lets out a chuckle at her words. but then the djinn pulls away, probably realizing that they’ve gone past that moment where they couldn’t keep their hands off of each other’s bodies. jiwon doesn’t mind to be honest, and the next words coming from the medic’s mouth got her smirking. she can’t remember how many marks she has left on kyah just now, but it sure as hell would be a fucking lot. “i’m not sorry about that though,” she blurts out. “not gonna lie, i’m kinda good at decorating. i think i could put artists to shame with my skills.”
and again, as if time is speeding up on purpose, they are already standing before the djinn’s door. this is where they’ll say goodbye, she reminds herself, ready to walk away when kyah suddenly speaks up again. her offer comes again, but the witch only laughs. “everywhere is unsafe in this world, baby.” not even home could feel safe at the moment. “nobody’s gonna hurt me, i’ll burn them before they could even breathe.” jiwon sends a playful wink towards the medic, thinks she’s ready to go, that is until kyah tugs gently on her arm, and god she almost, almost wants to fall for it. “you probably need a lot of rest right now after working so hard,” she coos, knows that kyah would absolutely get what kind of work she’s talking about here.
“sleep well,” she tells kyah. “i’m just gonna go and bother someone else now.”
the djinn let jiwon go on about kyah leaving, or getting kicked out of o-jeom. she didn’t take it seriously. jiwon just went on about how she couldn’t afford to lose the medic right now. plus, even as heartless as jiwon could be she didn’t anticipate that to be an actual option.
kyah tried to bite back the smile that spread across her face as she heard jiwon brag on herself for her superb decorating. “oh, don’t be sorry for them,” kyah smiled as she kept her eyes ahead of them. “i like having them. you really are wonderful at decorating.” she meant it. kyah would wear these proudly, and hope that the day that they start to fade away would just never come.
once to her apartment, she couldn’t deny that she felt a little disappointed that jiwon still chose to leave. kyah had anticipated that though. she remembered to keep her expectations in check. she sighed and shook her head, a smirk still lingered. the witch was right. no one could hurt baek jiwon. “i know no one’s going to hurt you. it was just an excuse to invite you inside is all.” the djinn figured that if she was going to be honest, she might as well be cheeky about it.
i’m just gonna go and bother someone else now. the words were meant to either be a joke or a jab- maybe both, really. reading the spellbound was already difficult as it was without all of the new added confusion. kyah knew that she couldn’t take it hard; if she took every rude thing jiwon said seriously, she’d be forever miserable. she playfully rolled her eyes and shook her head. “good luck entertaining anyone else with how spent you are.” the djinn’s voice chuckled out. she couldn’t, and wouldn’t, deny that she felt impressed with herself. maybe hearing her name all but screamed had stroked her ego too much.
this was goodbye and goodnight though. not ending in the way that she had hoped. she caught herself imagining them taking a warm shower then curling up in bed together until the morning light from the window woke them up. that was fantasy though, and kyah had prepared herself for the reality of that not happening.
"get some rest,” kyah said softly before leaning down and pressing a soft kiss on the side of jiwon’s head. “if you change your mind, i’m still here.”
