Training Day 3 Update
All Rolled into Run - Track and Field (OS)
I went back to the track again today. I had the trainer run through all of the biomes while I ran, just like I did on the first day of training. It’s an odd experience to run while they change. It felt good to run again.
Losing Myself to the Fight - Melee Weapons (OS)
Another repeat, I went to the melee weapons station. I practiced with a different weapon than I had, it was a larger two handed sword. I’m not as used to two handers as I am to single handers. Either way it was good practice to murder all of those holos... and a lot of fun too.
Just In Case - Poisons and Antidotes (OS)
I went to the poisons and antidotes station for the first time. It was really interesting to learn how to make a few different mixtures as well as what plants are good and bad. I’m glad I went.
Testing My Limits - Swimming Pool (OS)
Another first time station was the swimming pool. I feel better after having the trainer give my some tips and advice on how to swim better. In addition I got to practice swimming in heavy waves, freezing water, and super hot water. Not the most fun but I feel better prepared.
Up Up Up I Go - Climbing Wall (OS)
The climbing wall was a new station for me as well. The trainer showed me the best ways to climb up a regular rock wall, a mountain, a canyon, and a glacier. Plus he showed me how to gather useful resources whilst doing it. I feel a lot better prepared for any climbing I may have to do in the arena.
Up, Up, Up I Go | OS | Climbing Wall | Training Day 3
I decided to come back to go to one final station, the climbing wall. It was another one of those skills that I had a basic grasp of but knew I should probably learn more to be prepared. So, much like a number of other stations today, I walked up to the trainer and asked them to teach me. The trainer set me up in the harness and hooked me up to the wall. He showed me basic climbing skills and had me practice going up the wall once or twice before he decided that I was ready to be shown how to climb a terrain.
The trainer set the wall to be a moutainous cliff and told me to just start climbing. While I climbed, he gave me tips on how to get a better grip, find better footing, and even how to gather some resources that a mountain might hold. Following the mountain, the trainer set the wall to canyon and then glacial, following the same routine as before (giving me tips as I went up).
Finally after quite a number of goes up the wall, and admittedly a few stumbles, I was unhooked from the wall and harness. I felt like I was better prepared to handle any climbing I might have to do in the arena. I thanked the trainer, glad that I had decided to come to this station, and walked out of the training center for the last time until my private training.

Testing my Limits | OS | Swimming Pool | Training Day 3
I decided to head to the pool to practice my swimming. I had never done much swimming, wasn’t too much need for it in 10. I went up the trainer and asked them to run through the proper way to swim, float, etc. which they did gladly. Probably because I hadn’t insulted them like the melee weapons trainer. Again oops. It’s really a good thing I decided to come over to the swimming station beause the techniques and advice the trainer gave me actually helped quite a lot. I was swimming quite a bit better than I had been before.
After applying the trainers techniques and swimming a few laps I decided to test my abilities in the extremes. The trainer turned on the wave settings on the pool, starting off small and gradually increasing in size and strength, so that I could practice. It was a rather grueling task I had set for myself and I got pulled under more than once, but it was good to know that I could get myself back up to the surface.
I was just about to get out of the pool when the trainer suggested that I stay in and swim about in different, more extreme, temperatures. That way I would know what it felt like and be more prepared if I came across it. I took their suggestion and stayed in while they changed the temperature. He started it off on freezing, which was horrible, and left it that way for awhile forcing me to swim around and just stay in their. Just before things got too bad, they changed it back to normal, gradually, so as to not shock my body. I floated in the water for awhile, giving my body the time it needed, and then the trainer turned the temperature up to really fucking hot. It felt just as horrendous as the freezing water had, though in a completely different way. The freezing water had felt like pins and needles before going numb while the hot water simply made me feel like my skin was melting. Needless to say, it was rather unpleasant. The trainer followed the same routine as before, gradually turning the temperature to its average state while I stayed in it and let my body return to normal.
After what felt like forever, I was allowed to get out of the pool and leave the station. From there I headed out of the training room for awhile... my body needed a break while it could still get one.
Just In Case | OS | Poisons and Antidotes | Training Day 3
I walked up to the poisons and antidotes booth for the first time. I figured I should probably have a basic knowledge of what goes into poisons, as well as how to make some antidotes. Plus it couldn’t hurt to learn about helpful and hurtful plants. I moved to the trainer and asked them to teach me everything they could. They immediately develed into an explination and instructions on how to make a few different concotions including a non-lethal poison, an antidote for a tracker jacker sting, anti nausea potion, and a tempory paralytic; all the while I followed along, making the different mixtures with her.
After finish up that lesson, she moved us over to a line of different plants and began to teach me about them. She showed me a number of different plants that could be helpful to me as well as a some that would be dangerous. All in all, it was very interesting. I filed everything she taught me away in my head just in case I would need it, as I walked to my next station.
Losing Myself to the Fight | OS| Melee Weapons | Training Day 3
I walked up to the melee weapons station, thankful that there were no other tributes there. I nodded at the trainer as I walked up to the weapons table. They just scowled at me...okay so perhaps I should have been a bit nicer last time I was here. Too late to change that now. I picked up a large sword, a different weapon than I had used either of the other times I had been here. Walking up to the podium, which held the hologram control system, I set it to a high difficulty level and entered the training area.
I raised the two handed sword up and positioned myself so I was ready to attack. I saw movement out of the corner of eye and turned, using my agility, to dodge the strike before swiftly burying my blade into the holo. More holograms soon followed the first and I quickly lost myself to the fight. I dodged and twisted to avoid each assault, all the while taking out every holo before they could get me.
In what felt like seconds my battle was over. I smiled to myself as I watched the last holo disintegrate around my sword. I pulled back, standing tall, and walked back to the weapons table, replacing the blade I had used. Immediately after I turned and walked back to the center of the training center to decide where to do next.
All Rolled into Run | OS | Track and Field | Training Day 3
I approached the trainer at the track and field station, in much the same manner that I had the first day. I’m really only feeling slightly less grumpy today than I had been that first day. Dealing with all of the tributes yesterday had just made me want to be alone, despite the fact that some of the interactions hadn’t been entirely bad...
“Could we do the same things as the other day? Go through of a bunch of the biomes as I run, I mean,” I tried to keep my voice polite.
The trainer looked at me for a few seconds before nodding their head and motioning me towards the track. I thanked them and took my place. Counting down from ten, I took and deep breathe and got ready. When I reached one, I began to run. The biomes began changing every 6 or 7 minutes. They ran through snow, forest, beach, wetlands, fields, desert, mountain, rainforest, and finally settled on the regular track a few minutes before I reached the end. It had felt good to run, to strech my legs. “It was an interesting experience having all of those different biomes all rolled into one run.” I thought to myself as I thanked the trainer and moved on to my next station.
Training Day 2 - Update
Quite a Difference - Hand to Hand (w/ Parker Yim)
I went to the hand to hand station and ended up sparring with Parker Yim. He was not exactly the most difficult opponent. Still it was nice to spar with someone and he wasn’t horrible to speak to.
Survival Skills (w/ Ignacius Kauri)
I swear that some of these trainers like to talk just to hear the sound of their own voice. After I got her to go away though, it wasn’t bad though. Ignacius seemed decent enough and he didn’t pry too much like some of the others have.
Diced - Melee Weapons (Apricot Thompson)
I think that Apricot might acutally be certifiable. Despite that, or perhaps because of that, she was a great sparring partner. I am kind of hoping that I don’t meet her in the arena because she might just give me a run for my money. I actually like her just a little.
Flips n Shit - Gymnastics (w/ Ratsis Montgomery)
I really am not a fan of Rat, he comes off like judgmental dick. As much as that sucked, it was nice to get to practice some of my more acrobatic skills again.
I think that I managed to not piss anyone off too much today. Even though some of the tributes seemed decent enough, I am really getting tired of dealing people. I’m pretty sure that have spoken and interacted with people more in the past few days than I have in the entirety of the past five years.
Flips n Shit || Gymnastics || Ratsis & Kyla
“If you were, you’d be in a white suit standing watch, now wouldn’t you?” I said casually as I got to my feet. I listened to her drone on about not liking anyone in a very angsty-high-school-emo-kid fashion, finding myself becoming very bored hearing about her life as the daughter of a guard. I really didn’t buy any of it.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw the survival station finally clear up. Now I had an excuse to ditch this brat, “Uh-huh, yea. I like bagels too. Listen,” I said clapping my hands together, “you’ve been great, really. But,” I said pointing to my intended station, “I’m going to flip my way over yonder. See ya.” I said spinning on my heel and starting away from her, rolling my eyes hearing her shout something behind me.
“Goodbye” I yelled after his retreating figure. Fucker. I really do not like that guy... more so than almost any of the others I’d met so far anyway.
I was glad to be alone at a station for the first time today, I continued on there for a little longer before moving on to the next.
Flips n Shit || Gymnastics || Ratsis & Kyla
Hard to believe a fucking drone would encourage anything that could be seen as fun, having been the ass end of their idea of fun plenty of times. If her father did put her through some semblance of Peacekeeper training I could begin to piece together what she knew and didn’t know. But acrobatics? I’d call that bluff.
“Now, I’ve spent more time than I’d like to around folks in your Dad, but I ain’t never seen ‘em do fucking flips like that.” I said as she came back towards me.
“Well I’m not one of those fucking peacekeepers am I!” I said anger coming through. Shit. I lost my temper. I took a deep breath trying calm down. I just had to keep remember that I didn’t want to make anyone hate me excessively. “Sorry. I’m not a big fan of peacekeepers,” I said quietly, “Not that I particularly like anyone. I’m not a peacekeeper so I didn’t go through standard training. I was a little out of control as kid.” Little out of control was a massive understantement. I had been a fucking monster. I laughed a little to myself. “After I got myself kicked out of school, my da made sure I learned anything that he felt would instill some restriant in me. He did not teach my gymnastics, but he thought that it would teach me control so he found me an instructor.”
I had calmed down somewhat, but I could still feel that ever present anger boiling beneath the surface. I really was not a huge fan of this guy. Fucker shouldn’t judge someone he doesn’t know...like me. I indiscriminately hate everyone... Probably not the best example.
Flips n Shit || Gymnastics || Ratsis & Kyla
“Close but no cigar.” I grinned when she landed a few paces behind me. I laid flat on the mat, tilting my head back and watched her stalk off towards where the spring mat was. I half expected her to make a second jump and attempt to land on me, which I mean hey, party on, but I rather raised my brows watching her do some fucking uber flip and land with grace.
“The hell was that?” I laughed rolling over and sitting up, “Learn that while you were not being kidnapped?”
I rolled my eyes. This guy completely misunderstood what I had said but I ignored it and answered his question instead.
“My da was complete shit but the training he put me through did teach me a few cool tricks. He decided that acrobatics would come in handy during a fight so therefore I had to learn it.”
Flips n Shit || Gymnastics || Ratsis & Kyla
“No crazy scientists?” I said over a chuckle. Hell any animal was something special to me given the fact we had fuck-all in Eight.
She strayed away from me while I walked down the beam. I didn’t mind having a moment of silence since the beam began zig-zagging and the width alternating, gave me a chance to concentrate, though I knew in the Arena I wouldn’t have peace and quiet, especially if one of these other assholes are on my tail.
I saw her get onto a spring mat and began bouncing up and down, a stretch of safety mats in front of it, probably to cushion people who attempted a long jump. A smile slid to my face and I hopped off the beam and began to run towards Kyla, aiming for the spring mat beside her, “SEE WHO CAN JUMP THE FURTHEST, GONNA BEAT YA!” I shouted as I passed her and launched myself off the mat, landing on my feet and letting myself slide to the ground and looked back to see her airborne.
I watched as the boy ran past me, jumping at a line on the mat. He landed quite a good distance away. “Nice jump,” I said to him as I walked backwards to give myself space for a running start.
He had a taller frame which equaled, at least in his case, longer legs. I doubted that I could get quite as far as he had. I shrugged to myself and began running. I charged forward and smoothly transitioned into a jump at the same line. I really love the feeling of flying through the air. I came down onto the mats, landing gracefully, just short of the distance Rat had.
I watched his momentary celebration before I moved back to the start of the runway mat. I stopped, took a breath, and began to run. I did a round off back hand spring back tuck, landing at the other end of the mat. I may not be able to jump as far but I could flip. I had worked my ass off to learn that move when I was younger... I was glad to see that all that work had paid off. I smiled to myself. The training my dad put me through had been shitty, but I had gotten to learn some cool skills.
Flips n Shit || Gymnastics || Ratsis & Kyla
I wasn’t paying much attention to her as she swung beside me and flung herself forward in some show off-y stunt. I was more concerned with myself and returned the smirk, “I guess….” I dragged out, whipping my legs back harder and increasing my momentum before I released. I didn’t bother with the dramatics and landed just past her, pushing off from the ground as soon as I landed into a shoulder roll. When I stopped moving I hopped back up to my feet and spun to face her, “You coming?” I grinned while I walked backwards towards a set of narrow beams, some high, some low.
“What sort of animals ya got out in Ten? Just the usual farm squad or?” I asked as I hopped up and grabbed hold of a beam, hoisting myself up and finding my balance as I walked.
I kept walking beside Rat, not bothering to get up on a beam like he had, as I thought about his question. “I suppose so. Cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, some horses...To my knowledge we don’t have any bizarre creatures out there.” I rolled my eyes. What did he think he had cow-sheep hybrids or some shit like that?
I didn’t know what to say to him. I wasn’t versed in conversation. Hell I was pretty sure that in the time between the Reaping until now I had spoken more than I had in the past 5 years combined. Even though a few of the people had been interesting, I was tired of it. I didn’t particularly enjoy talking. I only did it when it I thought it would serve me better than staying silent.
I moved up to the runway mat just a bit before Rat did. I got on and bounced up and down a bit. I stopped my movement, considering what to do here. While I was thinking, out of the corner of my eye I saw Rat begin to run down the mat.
Flips n Shit || Gymnastics || Ratsis & Kyla
“Really? I thought that was the whole point.” I replied with a similar laugh watching her perform a flip with ease, “Nah, it made sense.” I said standing at the edge of the mat before taking off in a running start, building up enough speed until I threw my body forward into a sloppy ass flip, but nonetheless still brought my feet over my head. As they touched down my foot slipped and I ended up on my ass again, “Let’s just say this ain’t my strong suit.” I chuckled from the ground as Kyla flew past me in another perfect flip, spinning on her heel smirking at me, “Show off.” I teased as I got to my feet, “Try something else?”
I moved to a series of hanging bars, listening to the trainer go on about performing a flip while swinging from a bar, “Couldn’t hurt anymore than it has, right?” I said dabbing my hands with powder and took a running start towards a low hanging bar, jumping up and grabbing it with ease, “So far so good.” I said as I dangled, straightening my legs and beginning to swing myself back and forth, “Coming up?” I shouted to Ten.
I watched on as he ran and jumped up, appearing to easily grab hold of the bar. Well I suppose he’s not completely horrible at this then. I shrugged in response to his question and walked forward. When I was standing under there bar, I jumped up grabbing hold of the bar.
I pulled myself up so that I was holding my upper body above the hieght of the bar. After holding myself up for a few seconds, I let the tension in my arms go which gave me the momentum I needed to starting moving. I started swinging around the bar, I could see Rat on the bar next to me doing the same thing. I swung aroudn the bar once more before, without warning, I let go at just the right moment to shot myself into the air. I twisted my body flipping a twice before landing... I frowned at myself. I could have down better than that. I wipped the frown off my face and turned to look at Rat.
“You coming?” I smirked and continued on to the runway mat.
Flips n Shit || Gymnastics || Ratsis & Kyla
The Capitol got a choice lot from us, I thought as I listened to Kyla go on about a fake kidnapping. Little too open around strangers. I mean, hell I’d want to run off too if my Dad was an asshole in white, but ultimately it sucked for her and not me. I shouldn’t bother with hypothetical situations at this point.
“Noted.” I said when she finished speaking, “The opposite I suppose, folks are still together, got a little brother and two little sisters.” I said not bothering to hammer out details the way she had. I mean, by comparison I had a pretty good life at home, “So while you were…not-kidnapped what did you do, live in a cave somewhere?”
I listened to her as we walked towards the mats, I couldn’t help but pull myself up onto a balance beam alongside her and continue forward elevated, holding my arms out horizontally to help me keep my balance, “So it’s like doing a handstand but just pushing off instead of pushing up?” I mused to myself watching Kyla go first. I took a running start after her and dipped down halfway through with my palms flat and arms outstretched, touching the ground as if I was going to do a handstand and pushed off, sending my feet over my head and landing me…on my ass, “I could’ve told you that would happen.” I said, forcing a laugh as I got to my feet, “Any tips, Ms. Acrobatics?” I said stretching my back.
This guy was really starting to get on my nerves. I couldn’t say what exactly it was but something about him just really rubbed me the wrong way. I felt my face forming into a frown and quickly forced it away before responding to his question, “Something like that.” I answered vaguely, my annoyance causing me to be reluctant to talk as much.
I watched Rat, pull himself up onto the beam and take off making a clumsy attempted at flipping off of it. I fought not to laugh as I watched him land on his ass.
“Tips? Maybe try not landing on your ass I’ve heard that helps,” I laughed a little at my sarcasm. Since I was trying not to make any horrible enemies I continued on seriously, “You didn’t have enough momentum, enough force, going to get the air you need to land that move... You did it too much like a handstand and not enough like a flip... I’m not sure if that makes sense... just watch” I said as I pulled myself up onto the bar. I took a breathe and began running. I pushed off of the bar, using more force than Rat had, and flipped in the air before landing on my feet. I paused for a moment before continuing on to the mat that the trainer had indicated.
Survival Skills // Training Day Two // Ignacius and Kyla
Standing beside Kyla, we worked for a while on figure out exactly how to work a compass. It only took a few minutes before Ignacius pretty much had the whole procedure down. He put his compass down, confident that he had brushed enough on survival skills enough that he wouldn’t die of dehydration in the arena or anything.
Looking sideways, he noticed that Kyla was done as well it seemed.
“Well, it was nice meeting you and working side by side. I’m sure I’ll see you around some more before the arena.
It took a little while, but I finally had the compass figured out. I was feeling realitively good about the survival skills that I had gone over today. I was about to turn away when I heard Ignacius began to talk. I listened to him speak, watching him out of the corner of my eye.
“It was nice to work wtih you as well,” I turned to look at him, the corner of my mouth tugging up in a small smile, “I’ll see you around Ignacius,” I said, quickly leaving the station before he could.
