Using my listening skills again

Yesterday afternoon I went down to Home Farm to study with Son. When I pulled in, there was another young man at the edge of the driveway, holding tools. Son introduced him (Hi, Jax) as a friend from the climbing club at school.

The climbing club suffers from a very small budget and elderly equipment. Holds for climbing walls are outrageously expensive. As some older ones break over time, the gym has not been replacing them due to the cost.

Jax, however, has mad woodworking skills and access to scrap lumber. He wants to create wooden holds to give to the gym. Alas, he lives in a small apartment in a college town - no place to do woodworking. Son invited him to use a little workshop in the basement at Home Farm, and also the yard for bigger, messier tasks.

Jax was hard at work, and more than delighted to show me his completed holds, look at the grain!, how smooth that is, this piece is maple!, holds-in-progress, tools . . . my goodness. He explained things to me for quite a while. Wonderful!
