Long Lost Barstow
A beautifully horrendous place, I'm talking about a tiny town located in the High Desert of California. Barstow is a town made up of about twenty five thousand people, that began forming at the beginning of the nineteen hundreds. It's had many ups and downs since then. In the year two thousand fifteen Barstow has become a town made up of fifty percent hardworking blue collar people, working for the railroad or the three military bases in the surrounding areas. The other fifty percent of Barstow's population is made up of criminals, mentally disabled, and just plain out bums. Barstow is very rough around the edges, but for it's home, maybe not forever but for now it is where I am. The criminal rate and the amount of unstable people living in this town is so high that only corporate style businesses can survive in this place. I'd say more than half of the businesses I've seen try to come to this town are gone within two years. The people here are too poor for any real cultured business to flourish. Currently in Barstow there is about eight or ten discount dollar style businesses and only one that isn't, which is the Rite-Aid, so I'll leave it to you to put two and two together. If you take a drive down Main Street in Barstow from east to west on any given day now or ten years ago you can see all the failed businesses. Theres is probably over fifty business fronts that are empty and abandoned and have been so for years, which is sad being that there is maybe only a hundred store fonts on the entire street. For me down town is the most sad, because in the fifties and sixties down town Barstow was a happening place filled with restaurants, bars, and clothing shops and now is only home to a discounted liquid store, a few thrift shops, a bank, a child adoption place, and about eight or ten empty store fronts. If you we're to look at some photos of down town from then to now you wouldn't even be able to imagine that it was actually Barstow. If you can look past the drugged out bums crawling up and down main street, Barstow isn't so bad. Being that I'm from here I am aloud to bash a little, but for me barstow has more ups then downs, for instance we're conveniently located directly in the middle of the two most visited places on this side of the world, Los Angeles, Ca. and Las Vegas, Nv. only a two hour drive down the highway. Which is a huge plus for me, being that other people have to spend thousands of dollars just to get here. It's like we have the best of both worlds at the tip of our finger tips, two short hours to the city that never sleeps, forty five minute drive to the top of Big Bear Mountain where you can play in the snow four months out of the year, or even hop in your car a be at the pacific ocean in about two in a half hours. To me it makes the grungy town worth living in. Life is what you make it, so if you wanna dwell on the bad features of something go right ahead but that will never get you anywhere in life, looking past flaws and appreciating what is presented to you is the way to go!
Life Goes On (Significant Quotes)
"Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again, but life goes on." Yes it does, life goes on! That quote is significant to me not just in one scenario, but in all of the experience I've gained throughout my adult life. It's one of those quotes that just keeps me going and most of all, sane. It may seem harsh to a weak minded person, but to me it's reality. The quote is pretty famous, but in my mind it's something everyone should know, might help some pretty depressed people get out of the dumps. The older I get, the more mature I get! I know where the quote came from but I'm not quit sure exactly who wrote it, but whoever they are I'd say they probably have a pretty swell head on their shoulders. The quote has so much importance to me because, I know exactly what he or she meant. Read that quote to me five years ago it would have went straight over my head, I guess it's part of the bitter sweet way we grow in age and wisdom. To me it goes hand in hand with the quote "Don't spend so much time planning your future that you forget to live your life". I am completely guilty of this as well as most of my peers. People spend so much time, effort, and emotion planning future events, careers, marriages etc. that they don't even know if they will be around to enjoy. Clearly not one hundred percent literal, but you get the gist. To a certain extent those said situations are necessary, but people can become extremely obsessive about them. So many people are dying every singe day in this world we live in. It is very easy to live life maybe a little to much, I know this from personal experience, but I'd much rather take life to it's full potential and take risks then to end up in my forties, fifties, and sixties with absolutely nothing intriguing to talk about, like most people I've known through out my life. Not to come off naive or ignorant, obviously there are things that happen to people in their lives that put a huge holt on the way they're forced to live, young pregnancies, disease, financial situations etc., but these obstacles can be overcome, with dedication and hard work. Something my generation is rapidly loosing sight of! I'll try to remain humble in this statement; I may have made some poor decisions in my life that have led to some substantial delays on becoming a successful young adult, but I wouldn't change it for the world, I can very confidently say I've done more and experienced more then most middle aged people I know, and for that I will continue to take risks and go on spontaneous trips, until my legs and pockets won't allow it. To whom it may concern, maybe you should too!
Kyle A. Nichols
FIRST DAY OF COLLEGE ESSAY
My name is Kyle Andrew Nichols, I was born on September 6, 1990 on a military base in Bad Hersfeld, Germany. All my family is originally from hill billy town Missouri, thank god thats not where I ended up. What happend in my case is My father was stationed in Ft. Irwin (Barstow, Ca.) in 1991, bringing along my mother and my older brother. For the next coulple years my father did some long international Army tours, eventually leading to my parents divorce. My mother met someone in Barstow and fell instantly in love, and the rest is history. I've spent my entire life basically in this town, for most it's dirty, tiny, and ghetto but for me it's all I know. This town has a tendensy to mold some pretty terrible humans, due to all the crime and drug use. I'm truly greatful to have my mid western roots because it's probably the only reason I'm not strung out on drugs or in jail like most of the people I grew up with. When you analize people on the coasts as to people in middle America there really is absolutely no comparison. As an adolesent I wasn't anything to brag about, I had terrible grades and wasn't involved in any sporting activities. For me it was skateboarding, the second I stepped on a board I was instantly addicted. It is a thrill like no other, probably the reason I didn't do much else from around twelve years old to about twenty. I learned basically overnight that it wasn't going to get me anywhere in life and as an adult you need to earn money to survive. I began working part time as a cook at fifteen years old and did that till I was nineteen, until I became a pizza delivery driver. I did that for about two years before I was hired on at the Yermo, Ca. Marine Corps Logistics Base. That job also lasted about two years until I was layed off due to end of contract. At that time I decided I didn't want a normal job, so with the money I had saved up over the past couple years I opened up my own second hand store in Barstow, Ca. it was challenging, mentally rewarding, and also a great learning experience. Although it only lasted about a year I wouldn't change a thing about it. I am now twenty four years old and am just begining college for the first time, and I am exstatic about what the future may hold for me!
Desert Daze was held on Sunset Ranch Oasis in Mecca California on May 2nd, 2015. It was in the triple digit heat zone in the day and not even ice cold water could cool you down. As the sun began to set our moods began to rise, consumtion was in the air, even for the straight edge cat you were out of your mind with psych jams and loose dust. I’d say Desert Daze 2015 music and art festival was nothing short of immaculate. Kudos to Moon Block Party!

HUMANOISM
The answer to your life, well there isn't one! Who are we and why am I here? It doesn't matter! One human I associate myself with lately is one whome i've never experienced before, it's taught me so much yet hurt me so much. This relationship has changed my entire outlook on life in just a matter of weeks, I hate it yet can't stay away. It saddens me to think that every single creature through out my life hasn't had this affect on me, people I adore, love, miss, hate, relate. Everything you've just read is untrue. The thing is, is that we are humans, we believe everything that is in front of our face. That is the real answer to life, to do whatever it is you please in that very second! To believe or not to believe you may ask, thats on you to decide. Humans are filled with billions of emotions, so pick your vices wisely. Thats the way I see it, but who am I to decide? EMOTION PLEASURE PAIN HUNGER THIRST I didn't choose to be here! I am here to try and tell you how to get through your day. JUST BE YOU, NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS!!! We are hipnotized into this artificial world of pure hustle and greed; where most are viewed as weak and poor, and thats perfectly ok! SPEND YOUR WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE DOING WHATEVER IT IS THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY!!! Where do we go when we die? It doesn't matter because we will never know anyway. Just be YOURSELF. If you feel you've done something wrong you probably have if you feel you've done something right you probably have. Where do we go from here you might ask, wherever you want and you can do whatever you want. Some poor people want to be rich, some rich people want to be poor. Most celeberties wish they could be normal again . We will never be satisfied with life, we're HUMAN, just keep MOVIN'! Keep changing, and stay passionate to what it is you really love. Your only job in life is to make those around you feel how you wish to feel. The most gratifying thing in life is to feel good about yourself, and that is truly the way to achieving that feeling. Force kindness on everyone you come in contact with, even when they don't want it. It will rub off on them and soon enough there will be billions of happy people everywhere. SUNLIGHT NUTRITION Keep thinking it's impossible and maybe it might be! Kyle Andrew Nichols
