Is YouTube going to die ?
It’s clearly what an important number of Youtubers are claiming, because of a new law from the EU. The company even shared on different social media an article with Youtube video makers explaining why and how this article is dangerous for their business.
But what the article 13 is ?
As it is written on wired.com, this article is “new copyright directive that could force tech giants to do much more to stop the spread of copyrighted material on their platforms”.
In a nutshell, the video makers, making a lot of money, are sometimes using copyrighted content such as music in their videos. But with this article, the money made with the video would directly go to the author of the music, or copyrighted content.
On theverge.com, we can read that “this would create an incredible burden for small platforms, and could be used as a mechanism for widespread censorship”.
The article 13, as well as the article 11, has to be validated on early January.
Grids or Flexbox ?
Grids are new in the web development world. They came to give us more flexibility to organise our web pages. But what about flexbox, that existed before ? Should we not use them anymore ?
To help us make the choice between flexbox and grids (if a choice has to be made, because they can perfectly work together on a webpage), I want to share this article, from medium.com, written by Ayush Gutpa, a web developer :
The Beginner’s guide to CSS grids and flexbox
In there, Ayush Gutpa explains us what makes the difference between both CSS features.
That gave me a better view from what I learnt in class.
And what about float ?
My first podcast
Podcast is one of the new trend online. Maybe thanks to Spotify and other mobile apps, more and more people are telling stories, sharing news or blogging through this form of media.
But when you are a beginner in the field of recording, it is hard to know how to start, what to say, and how organised our speech should be. That’s why I went to medium.com, where people share their ideas, give feedback and good tips about everything.
As suprising it might be, my first research showed me we can learn to code listening to podcast. Is it the end of the Youtube tutorials ? I don’t think so, but every help is to consider. I share with you this link, where you will find 10 podcasts new coders should listen.
Then, I finally met this good article about making your own podcast. Michael Sacca, Director Business Development and Marketing at Dribbble.com, gives us advices about topics, the story we tell and the style we want to give to our work. It gets a little too much technical when it comes to recording, editing and promoting our podcast, but I think there are still a lot of advices to learn from its thoughts.
Overall, I think the best way to make the best podcast is to listen a lot of them, about different topics.

It is a good way to visit some good piece of work, to improve our creations.
The websites also provides good inspirations and advices, such as fonts, footer designs or global designs trends.
Firefox now blocks third-party cookies
“Mozilla has released Firefox 63, which introduces Enhanced Tracking Protection, a feature that blocks third-party trackers to increase your privacy online”. As we can read on theverge.com developed an update to improve the privacy of the users.
If you avoid to be tracked, while making research on Internet, you should go for Mozilla browser !
Which colors for my website ?
When it comes to website colors, it can be tricky to find the good ones to send the right message, to give the best experience. CSS allows us the manipulate colors in very specific locations of our website, why would we avoid to use it properly ?
Here is a link to a blog giving us different associations of colors, to be used for a website : Link to the blog
If you already have a color in your mind and you want to know which are the complementary ones, you can check coolors.co . You are free the change the colors, to see if they fir together.
Android Creator Is Building an AI Phone That Texts People for You
Such as Google Duplex, Android is working on a new tool to help you manage your texts and emails on your smartphone. According to Bloomberg, Andy Rubin, the Android creator, plans to use Artificial Intelligence to make it work.
It may be presented on the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019, in Las Vegas, on January.
So, wait and see...
Is Tim Cook surfing on the wave ?
In a recent interview given to Vice News in the Grand Central train station in New-York, the Apple CEO affirmed that the privacy is a main responsibility for his firm. He said : “I see privacy as central to liberty.”
Tim Cook is surely referring to Facebook or Google data sharing. He did not named the two companies, but as a matter of fact, giving this interview few days after another Facebook data leak is smart of him.
He also seemed favorable for some regulations to regulate privacy : “You have to ask yourself: What do we need to do? And I think some level of government regulation is important to come out of that.”
The question is : Is Apple protecting our data ? This question sounds crazy but Apple knows what they are doing. On the 3rd of October, they added a new privacy policy on the App Store. Apps will be asked to communicate how they use data from their users.
Apple wants to be seen different, and wants to comfort people as well. But it is proven that Iphone, as well as other Android smartphones, are gathering data such as our position or our Internet research to sell it to advertisers. Siri is also a way to collect some data from Apple customers. As it is said in the USA Today article, « Apple says it doesn't share that info with outside companies. It does, however, allow advertisers to target users based on their history in the App Store and News app ».
<h2>Hello World</h2>
Here we go ! This is the first post of my Web Authoring Tumblr blog !
To start this new semester, I will share one of the most important website to learn HTML, a completely new language : W3 School This website saved my life when I had to learn HTML on my own last semester.
I am sure there are plenty of websites, Youtube videos or other resources teaching us how to learn HTML, but I have never found a better and easier resource. Step by step, you can apply through little exercises what you have learnt in Ruairi’s class.
Within two weeks, I already feel more confident about this nearly new language for me. How to organise the code, learn new tags, new elements, helped me to understand better the way website pages are organized.
When you visit a website, it’s sometimes hard to understand the way it works. Now I started to observe this, how the CSS is affecting the HTML, what Javascript can do for us, etc...
I can’t wait to learn CSS !
