• Remmick being all charming and playful when you first meet, trying his best to be invited into your warm, comfortable home.

• He’s all smiles and sweet words each evening he comes by to see you, never quite letting you forget him.

• As time goes on something changes, you’re no longer just another meal for him—he finds himself wanting to know more about you, every little bit he can scrounge up only seems to deepen the one sided connection.

• The more he feels he “knows” you, the more desperate he becomes to be invited in—wanting, no needing to know what it feels like to finally have you in his arms.

• His charming facade begins to slowly crumble the longer he speaks to you, starting the evening with a calm smooth demeanor, keeping a polite distance with his hands folded in front of him—as the hours go on he becomes less put together and more pathetic, leaning against the doorframe of your front door to be as close at he can to you, practically begging to be let in.

• If you decide to keep denying him entry he’s not above begging, kneeling in front of you the moment you open the door on nights where his want gets particularly bad.

• Some mornings you’ll open your door to see a bundle of wildflowers or jewelry laid neatly on the porch where he knows you’ll see it, really bringing you anything that smells nice or looks pretty in hopes of wooing you.

• The night you finally invite him in he’s practically trembling with the restraint to not just grab you then and there, attempting to remain as much of a gentleman as he can as he follows you through your home.

• If you make the first move he’s immediately burying his face into your neck, hissing as the metal from your necklace burns his lips—a silver chained piece that you’ve had most of your life, now protecting your throat inside of just decorating it.

• He attempts to put on his charming act the next few times he’s over at your home but it never lasts long before he’s practically clinging to you, needy hands squeezing and roaming idly as he whispers sweet words into your ear in hopes of you finally removing the necklace that keeps him from getting a proper taste of you.

• If you ever give in and let him bite he’s the most pathetic creature you’ve ever laid your eyes on, drool covering the expanse of your throat as he sinks his fangs in—groaning lowly at the sweet taste of you.

• Remmick who feels as though he’s died for a second time now that he finally has you, softening his sharp edges in a way that would piss him off had he not utterly enjoyed it so much.

• Remmick who’s decided you’re it for him, whether that means turning you or passing on when you do, he doesn’t wish to roam this world with another.

I missed this…

It’s been a while since you’ve been able to just take it easy, cooking whatever you want without having to worry about the time—watching as the sunlight begins to pour through the kitchen window, it’s warmth settling over your chilled skin. You almost wish you could bottle up the feeling—the tranquility, if not just to save for another day.

Your soft humming fills the empty kitchen as you pour yourself a cup of coffee, not hearing the quiet footsteps creep towards the kitchen until the sizzle of flesh and a soft hiss cut through the calm morning.

You whip around on instinct when your gaze suddenly lands on Remmick, who clutches his hand while it begins to slowly heal—lingering in the darkened archway of the kitchen, the sunlight pouring into the room preventing him from getting any closer. You can almost feel the way your expression shifts into something terribly concerned, despite doing your best to keep a neutral look.

“… Are you alright?” Your voice comes out softer than intended as you take small step forward before pausing, keeping yourself in the warmth of the sun—as if it would shield you from the emotions you don’t wish to acknowledge.

You watch as his eyes dart over to the kitchen window, his brows furrowing a little at the sight of the curtains being pulled open—allowing sunlight to bathe over your skin, preventing him from reaching you. He takes a small breath before putting on a lazy smile, meeting your gaze head on. “I’m fine, darlin’…” He mutters as he tilts his head, carefully resting a hand against the archway. “You wouldn’t mind closing those curtains though, huh?”

You study him for a moment before a dangerous thought fills your mind, what could he possibly do if you didn’t? You manage to stifle your grin as you move back towards the counter, carefully picking up your coffee before taking a sip. “Maybe in a bit. I’m quite enjoying the warmth at the moment.” His eyes narrow a bit at the low humming tone you use, his smile sharping subtly.

You can see him lean against the archway, watching as you sit on top of the counter—his gaze lingering on your throat as you tilt your head back a bit. “Warmth… That all you want?” He questions softly, his voice melting into a smooth purr. “I could keep ya warm, sugar. Just gotta let me in.”

He watches as you shift slightly to better face him, a brow raised as you study him with a subtle grin. “Could you? I thought vampires were naturally cold, given the lack of blood and all.” Your voice coming out as a low hum, watching as his expression seems to drop just a bit. “I’ll sit in front of a damn heater if it means you’ll let me near ya.” He states with an almost desperate tone, an odd glint appearing in his gaze.

… That’s new.

His tone makes you pause for a moment, having never heard him sound so close to begging—it makes you think, you’re sure if you pushed hard enough that maybe he would. “You’d do that for me?” You taunt lightly, not quite thinking about what you’re saying.

Remmick lets out a soft sigh as that dark gaze of his lingers on your sun-softened frame. “There’s a lot I’d do for you, darlin’… You don’t even know the half of it.” He murmurs lowly, a seriousness to his tone that forces a tense silence between the two of you.

You want to believe that he means anything other than what he’s implying but deep down you somehow know exactly what he means, that he’d hurt someone—kill even, probably already has. Your mind supplies you with flashes of all the bodies that’ve turned up around town, every news article of a missing person who’s turned up exsanguinated just days later.

All people you knew… Neighbors, coworkers—Had he been watching you? At least half of those people had gone missing well before you even found him. You almost feel lightheaded with how quickly the blood seems to drain from your face, something that he catches on to immediately.

“I wouldn’t hurt you.” He states firmly as a glimmer of anxious panic simmers in his dark eyes, his face presses against the frame of the archway as he kneels to settle on the floor, almost carelessly as he has to shift back from the sunlight that creeps a bit too close. “Never you, darlin’… You know that.” He murmurs, his gaze flitting over your expression as he takes in every minute change.

I don’t know that… I barely know you.

That thought hits you square in the chest, you really don’t know anything about him—a vampire roaming around your home freely and you never once considered the fact that any of those people he drained could’ve easily been you. Could still be you.

You can feel how your heart rate seems to pick up at the same time he seems to hear it, watching as his head tilts subtly. “Who’s to say you’re being truthful?..” Your voice comes out less stable than you were hoping for. “That you aren’t waiting for a vulnerable moment to bite down?”

The faint whine that catches your ears is almost enough for you to backtrack as those blood red eyes meet yours with an almost pleading look. “Let me prove it to ya.” He offers almost immediately, shifting slightly in a useless attempt to be closer. “Just don’t push me away, sugar…”

Your thighs subtly press together as conflicting feelings rush through you, one part of you wanting nothing more than to shut the curtains and coax him closer while the another part screams at you to keep as much distance as you physically can.

You catch the way his eyes seem to darken as his gaze briefly drifts down to your exposed thighs before darting back up to hold your gaze again, his tongue subtly brushing over his lips as he shifts restlessly in the archway.

… Fuck.

You’re moving before you can second guess yourself, swiftly shutting the curtains before turning to look at him—physically having to prevent yourself from immediately going over to him. “You wanna prove yourself?.. Here’s your chance.”

Remmick doesn’t waste any time in making his way to you, not even bothering to stand as he practically crawls to your feet—hesitant before gently allowing his hands to slowly travel up your calves, delighting in the small shiver that travels through your body.

“Thank you, darlin’…” He whispers against your skin as he presses a reverent kiss to your thigh, gently guiding you back into one of the dining chairs. He shuffles closer once you’re seated, settling between your legs as though he’s always fit there.

You can feel your face heat up as you watch his nose slowly brush along the soft inner part of your thigh, pressing lingering kisses here and there before he finally reaches your shorts—meeting your gaze as he presses a gentle kiss to your clothed core, rough hands carefully dragging your shorts down your legs before tossing them to the side.

“Remmick—“

“Shh… I’ve got you, sugar.”

You watch as his chest practically heaves with each breath he takes, drool falling from his lips and smearing over your inner thigh where he gently presses against the main artery that thrums beneath the soft flesh.

Your body seems to move of its own accord as you suddenly find your hand resting near his cheek, fingers gently playing with the short strands of hair you’re able to reach—the pitiful whimper that echoes from him does little to quell the molten heat blooming in your abdomen.

He leans into your touch for but a moment before those sharp fangs brush against the sensitive skin of you hip as they hook into your underwear, almost teasing slow as he pulls them down and off of your legs—pocketing them as he can’t help but press himself closer to you, groaning softly at the mere sight of you spread out before him.

“Fuck… Look at you, darlin’.”

His voice comes out as more a growl as he grabs your thighs and carefully tugs you forward, he presses a small kiss to your mound before dragging his tongue up your slit—focusing his attention on your clit the moment he hears your breath hitch.

Your thighs instinctively close around his head though that doesn’t seem to deter him in the slightest as he moans against you, his drool mixing with your slick as he buries his face into you—his tongue pressing inside while his nose nudges against your clit, happily lapping up everything you give him.

You card your fingers into his hair as you melt into him, soft moans escaping your lips while your hips subconsciously rock against his face—though from the sounds he makes you’d almost think your were the one getting him off, only managing to look down at him for but a moment as the nearly glazed over look in his eyes almost does you in.

Your back arches into him as you moan out his name, your thighs tensing around his head as you reach your end. His hands grasp onto your hips as he continues to hungrily lap at your cunt, almost overstimulating you before you finally have to tug him off.

“Wait—“ He whines as he finally looks up at you, his mouth covered in a mixture of drool and slick casting a slight shine over his lips in the warm light that shines through the curtains.

Any complaints he may have had die on his tongue as you gently run your fingers through his hair, his whole body melting into the soft touch as he rests his head against your thigh. A moment of silent affection passing between the two of you before he suddenly speaks up.

“Was that good?.. Proof I mean—was that good proof?” He questions softly, if he could then you’re sure his cheeks would be flushed a wonderfully soft red.

… Cute.

You can’t help the small grin that tugs at the corner of your lips as you continue to gently run your hands through his hair, meeting his gaze as he stares up at you. “You did so good, Remmick…”

And if you notice the small shiver that tears through him at the praise? You don’t point it out, though perhaps you’ll keep that stored away for another day.

A few days have gone by since that night, you’ve been throwing yourself into work—picking up extra shifts when you can, doing your best to stay busy, only leaving when the town curfew hits.

Remmick has become almost suffocating, lingering closer when you’re home—watching, always watching. It was odd before, but now it’s near unnerving the way his eyes track each little movement you make. The little pet names have become more frequent as well, rarely does he say your name anymore, more often than not you’ll hear him use Darlin’ or on the rare occasion, Sugar.

Despite your annoyance you can’t seem to find it in yourself to tell him off, your heart betraying you with a little flutter each time a soft term of endearment leaves his lips. You’re not sure when the last time he fed was, if he has been then he’s been better about cleaning himself up afterwards. Though you haven’t seen anything in the news about another missing person, that hasn’t stopped the hunters though—you’ve seen at least three patrols today alone, they’ve been checking on the warehouse more frequently recently since the last body found was that of your coworker.

I still get sick thinking about it…

The nights have gotten near freezing now that winter is fast approaching, with the shorter days and longer nights—curfew has changed so fewer people are out after dark, that becomes quite apparent as you step out of the warehouse. Not a single other vehicle in sight, besides your own. With a soft sigh you make the quick walk over to your car, knowing that even if you dread it, you need to get home before it gets much later.

You pause as your gaze lands on the bright red petals of a camellia that’s settled in the space between your car door and its handle, the soft petals shifting under your touch as you carefully pull it from its spot. A shiver travels down your spine as the heavy feeling of being watched settles over you—your gaze quickly darts around the empty parking lot before you slip into your vehicle, locking the doors.

You take a deep breath of the unforgiving air in a attempt to calm your racing heart, an uneasy feeling filling your chest as you glance down at the flower one last time—quickly cranking the engine before pulling out of the parking lot, just wanting to focus on getting to the warmth of your home.

The drive is thankfully uneventful, navigating the familiar path home bringing a sense of calm over your paranoid mind—even if it’s just for a moment. The faint sounds of gravel crunching beneath your tires filling the silent air around you as you pull down your driveway, your headlights casting your home in an odd light as you stare out at the windows—almost trying to catch a glimpse of him, knowing he’s probably waiting just beyond the front door for you to step inside.

The headlights flicker off as you pull the keys from the ignition, hesitating before stepping out of your car and heading up towards the porch—pulling your jacket closer around your body as the chill in the air begins to get to you, just as you reach the front door it’s pulled open. Wild dark eyes settle on you, staring for a long moment before you’re greeted with a fanged smile.

“You’re home!.. I was startin’ to get worried about you, sugar.” Remmick steps to the side to let you in as you step forward, his hair wild and fluffed as if he’d been running his hands through it. He follows closely behind you, taking your jacket and hanging it up as you pull it off. “Yeah, had to work another double…” You murmur the excuse easily, your heart skipping a bit from the small gesture.

The frown that settles on his lips is almost enough to break your composure, having to avert your gaze from him as you move further into the house. “Can’t someone else pick up the extra shifts? Seems like they’re overworkin’ you, darlin’…” He studies you for a moment as he continues to trail after you. “Is it your boss, he makin’ you take the shifts?” He questions, an odd tone to his usually calm voice.

The question makes you pause for a moment, images of your boss being dragged from the warehouse in a body bag filling your mind—your heartbeat picking up as you swallow down the sudden fear in your throat. “No-“ Your voice cracks before you take a small breath. “No, ain’t nothing like that… Just wanted the extra pay is all.”

You the heavy weight of his gaze on you before he lets out a soft hum, gently nudging you to sit down on the couch. “Ah… Well, maybe you should take a break for a while. Let someone take care of ya for once.” He replies with a soft, lazy grin—his head tilting slightly as his gaze drags over your frame before stepping back, grabbing a blanket to drape over your lap. “You’re shiverin’, sugar… Here, I’ll get you something warm to drink.” He hums softly, walking off towards the kitchen archway.

… I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that.

You can hear the soft clink of glass being moved around from the kitchen, a faint humming flowing out from the archway as he prepares you what smells like hot chocolate. Your body relaxes on its own accord before your mind brings the image of that bright red camellia to your attention again, you almost what to ask him if he knew anything about it.

Couldn’t have been him, he’d have burned alive if he stepped a foot outside… Right?

Doubt begins to cloud your mind, wondering if maybe he could go outside—it was quite dreary today, the sun barely able to peer through the thick blanket of clouds that laid stretched across the darkened sky. You’re pulled from your thoughts as a mug—your favorite one at that—is placed on the little end table beside you.

You blink before carefully grabbing the warm mug, humming softly as you take a deep sip. “… You don’t have to do this, you know?” Your voice comes out in a soft murmur, glancing up at him briefly—catching his gaze already locked onto you. “What do ya mean?..” He questions lowly, his dark gaze tracing over each subtle change in your expression.

You gesture vaguely between the two of you, attempting to ignore the warm feeling of a flush climbing up your neck. “The little things. Cooking for me, keeping me comfortable…” Your explanation comes out almost hesitant when you catch the intense look in his eyes, your own widening slightly as he kneels down in front of you.

“What if I like doin’ all that?.. Maybe I’m being selfish—enjoying the little flustered changes in your expression when I brush a little too close.” He murmurs softly as he looks up at you through a darkened gaze, sparks of that deep red peeking through if you look close enough. Your mind flickers back to that night you caught him coming back in, bloodied and scrambling to explain. He looked up at you just the same when you gave in to the thoughts raging in your mind, gently wiping the blood from his face—remembering how his gaze darkened when you trailed the rag down his throat.

You have to take a small breath to clear the memory away, barely noticing that he had gently pulled your shoes off—his hand ghosting over your ankle as he leans his face against your knee, his fangs gently pressing against his lips as he takes a deep breath. You bite the inside of your cheek as a conflicted feeling settles over you—your mind screaming at you to move away from him, while your heart begs you to drag him up and steal what little breath he has left in his lungs.

You quietly clear your throat before you hesitantly begin to pull away, shifting around him before standing. “I-… I should head to bed, it’s been a long day.” You mutter the poor excuse, unable to look at him as he remains kneeling on the ground—your heart racing at the sight. There’s almost a look of disappointment in his gaze before it quickly disappears, that lazy smile settling on his face again. “Goodnight, darlin’…” He replies softly, his voice a low purr that nearly drags you back to him.

With a small, awkward nod, you quickly disappear down the hallway—taking a deep breath as you close yourself inside your bedroom, running a hand over your face as you feel the heat settle on your cheeks.

Fuck…

You wake the next morning with a start, your dreams plagued by him—a whine tearing from his throat, fangs brushing just a little too close to your own exposed neck. You glance over at the window, groaning softly seeing how it’s still dark outside—taking a moment to stare up at the ceiling before dragging yourself out of bed.

Your body feels uncomfortably warm as you attempt to shake away the lingering images your unconscious mind had created, turning the shower on as cold as you could stand it before stepping inside.

What is going on with me?.. He’s a vampire for gods sake, I shouldn’t have even let him stay to begin with.

And yet despite the fact you know he shouldn’t stay, something in your chest aches at the thought of him not being around—coming home to an empty house, no soft humming coming from within as you step through the front door. Another image of a hunter getting ahold of him causes you to tense, cold water rushing down your body while you attempt to swallow the lump forming in your throat. With a deep breath, you roughly shut off the shower—stepping out to dry yourself off only to catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror. You look tired, more so than you feel—your eyes dark and your body tense from little sleep and the long work shifts.

You hesitate for a moment before moving to grab your phone from your bedroom as you quickly get dressed, you stare down at the screen before finally dialing your boss’s number—who surprisingly doesn’t fight you on not coming in when you tell them you can’t come in today. Your body almost relaxes a bit before you step out of your bedroom, your steps quiet as you move down the hallway—pausing for a moment once you reach the living room.

Remmick lays curled up on the couch, his chest slowly rising and falling as he seemingly rests peacefully—what makes you pause however is the sight of him clinging to your jacket, his face partially hidden from where he’s buried his face into it. You can feel the flush beginning to crawl back up your neck as you stare at him for a moment, gently shaking your head before swiftly walking past the living room and into the kitchen.

… This is gonna be a long weekend.

I feel like I’m going insane…

You take a small breath as you walk through the quiet warehouse, moonlight pouring in through the few windows the large building has.

Most of your colleagues having gone home for the night, you ended up working a double shift for the day as one of your coworkers didn’t show up for their shift.

You feel a shiver spark down your spine as you step out into the cold air of the parking lot, it seems as though the nights have only been growing colder over the past few days. Though that’s not the only reason your body seems to be on edge today, you swear at every turn you can feel eyes lingering on you—staring, even.

It doesn’t help that your mind keeps wandering back to your new vampiric guest, he’s polite enough, you suppose. Though the way he watches when he thinks you’re not aware puts you on edge, his stare always unblinking in a way that reveals his inhuman nature.

You sigh softly as you quickly make it towards your car, slipping inside and starting the engine, relaxing a bit as the heat kicks on.

Just a few more days… Then he’ll be on his own.

The drive back home is thankfully an uneventful one, the familiar backroads giving an almost calming feeling to your previously racing mind.

You’re about halfway home when you spot a couple of bright red and blue flashing lights up ahead near the concrete bridge, a few policemen making their way down the small slope while one spots your car and immediately directs you past them.

Your heart begins to race as you catch a brief glimpse of a body bag being carried up of the river as you pass by, blood drains from your face as the icy grip of fear shoots down your spine.

Your mind immediately drifts towards Remmick as you shift your attention back to the road, the forest surrounding the road swallowing you back into the dark.

The image of bloody teeth, crimson stained clothes, and those gleaming red eyes you swear you saw earlier fill your mind. Your grip on the steering wheel tightening as you stare blankly ahead, you almost don’t realize when you finally pull up to your home—your body having worked on autopilot.

You take a few deep breaths before finally steadying yourself enough to get out of the car, your keys rattling together quietly as you approach the door—only for it to swing open, startling you a bit as you’re met with a pair of dark eyes and a fanged smile.

“Welcome home! I got dinner made for ya.” Remmick calls almost sweetly, stepping to the side as he ushers you inside. “You must be starving, I didn’t see you take anything with you.”

Your mind blanks for a moment as you blindly allow him to guide you towards the dinner table, his hand surprisingly warm as he gently presses on your shoulder to have you sit down at the table.

You blink a bit as he sets down a plate in front of you, taking a seat across from you like he did earlier this morning. “… You made dinner?” Your voice comes out in an almost confused, hushed tone.

You watch as he tilts his head to the side, slowly blinking as he studies your expression. “Of course… I am staying in your home after all.” He hums softly.

Huh…

You hesitate for a moment as a flash of that body bag you saw earlier flickers across your memory before gently grabbing your fork. “You ain’t gotta cook for me, you know?” You murmur as you take a bite.

Fuck, I wouldn’t complain if you did though.

Your body almost visibly relaxes as you eat, not realizing just how hungry you were until now. As your focus zeroes in on your plate you don’t notice how his gaze lingers on you—your mouth, the way your eyes flutter ever so slightly. Every small detail, every small motion of yours stored away in his mind.

A small grin creeping over his face as he leans against the table a bit. “I don’t mind.” He murmurs lowly, as though he doesn’t want to disturb the quiet that had settled between you both.

You’re about halfway through your meal when he speaks up again. “How was work?” The mundane question makes you pause for a moment, an unexpected domesticity of it all suddenly settling over you.

You clear your throat a bit, glancing over at him briefly before awkwardly stabbing at your plate with the fork. “It was fine, I guess… Had to work a double today, a coworker didn’t show up for their shift.”

You catch an odd look in his gaze before Remmick gives you a lazy grin. “Explains why you looked so wound up earlier…” He hums softly, gently tapping his fingers against the wooden table.

You give him a half attempt at a chuckle before a thick quiet blankets the two of you, you spare him a brief glance before quickly finishing up your plate, getting ready to set it in the sink when he suddenly grabs it from you.

“Why don’t you go rest, yeah?” His voice comes out in a gentle yet insistent tone as he moves toward the sink, turning the water on.

You pause as you watch him for a moment, nodding gently before realizing he can’t see you. “Yeah, thanks.” You mutter softly, resting your hand on the wooden archway as you glance back at him. “Goodnight, Remmick.”

He actually seems to freeze for a moment before he continues cleaning up. “Goodnight,” He murmurs your name so softly that you almost don’t catch it as you leave the kitchen, heading off towards your bedroom for the night.

You toss and turn in your bed as your mind is lost in dreams, your chest rising and falling rapidly as your breathing becomes shallow and panicked.

Images of blood staining your body as you stand above a sheet covered corpse, adrenaline pumping through your veins as you hear something circling you—watching, waiting and wanting.

A flash of blood red eyes comes into view, mere moments away from reaching you before your body forces you awake with a jolt. Your breath comes out in panicked pants as your eyes dart around the dark of your bedroom, moonlight pouring in through the window.

You run a hand over your face as you take a moment to calm your rapid heartbeat, quietly swinging your legs out of bed as you stand. You take one more glance around your bedroom before quietly stepping out into the hallway.

You glance over at the living room briefly as you pass by it before pausing, taking a quick step back—your eyes scanning the living room as a frown forms on your face when Remmick’s nowhere to be seen.

Your brows furrow as you move down the hallway, nudging the bathroom open and finding it empty, your steps quicken a bit as you head towards the kitchen. A hint of worry fluttering in your chest when he’s not there either, you hesitate before gently calling out his name as you search the house one more time, coming up with nothing.

Where the hell is he?

A brief image of a hunter dragging him off to a cage, bloody and afraid, fills your mind—making you almost sick with worry. You check the entire house again, collapsing onto the couch as your leg bounces a bit. You glance over at the time every few minutes as you wait.

The clock ticks over to 4am when you hear the front door gently creak open, you stand immediately and swiftly rush to the foyer only to pause when you spot him—taking in his appearance, blood staining his mouth that he seemed to attempt to clean off before returning.

Those dark red eyes almost seem to glow subtly as his gaze locks onto you, seemingly surprised to see you awake. He gently calls out your name as he carefully closes the door behind him. “Now I can explain,“ Your voices overlap as you both speak at once. “You disappeared,“

Remmick blinks a bit as a heavy silence hangs in the air between you, he takes a moment to actually take you in—the shallow breaths that move through your lungs, how your heart seems to be stuttering in your chest, the wild and almost worried look in your eyes.

He takes as small step forward as his brows furrow, gently lifting his hands a bit in a placating manner. “… What happened, darlin’?” His voice softens to a gentle coo as if he’s attempting to calm a frightened animal.

Your mind almost blanks at the tone before you shake your head a bit, taking a small breath before you step forward and grab his wrist. You lead him into the kitchen, nudging him to sit down in a chair as you move to fill a bowl with warm water.

“Darlin’?” He calls out softly as you approach him with a rag, setting the bowl on the table and wetting the rag before gently holding his face still with a hand.

“Just—keep still for a moment, okay?” You mutter softly as you begin to clean the blood from his face, the motion slowly calming your racing heart.

Remmick stares up at you, unblinking while you gently drag the rag over his lips—deep red eyes tracking each minute movement with an unwavering devotion, fangs just barely peeking out as his lips remain parted.

I’ll admit… This was not how I imagined today would go.

With the knowledge of monsters and creatures we used to call myth being brought to light as real first spread across the country, panic had followed quickly after.

To counter the rapid spread of panic, numerous jobs and companies had been built as a safeguard or security of sorts. Monster Hunters, though they wouldn’t call themselves such, they’d patrol just about every city and town across the country. More well known ones being used as mercenaries, going wherever they’re told.

Over the years it had become a normality to hear about monster sightings or see a hunter hauling one back to wherever it is they take them.

Just today alone you had seen a group of hunters transporting what seemed to be a lycanthrope across town, you almost felt bad for the poor guy seeing how confused and terrified he had seemed.

You let out a sigh as you shake the thought from your head, scanning a few more boxes as you slowly walk through the warehouse, taking stock of everything within. It had been a stroke of luck that they had an opening, though from what you had overheard from your coworkers it seemed like the people before you had gone missing rather than just up and quitting.

You wanted to brush it off as paranoia, hunters being spotted around town outside of their usual nightly patrols tend to put people on edge.

Though it’s easy to let paranoia take hold of you when every news station in the state is reporting about the bodies found along side the Mississippi River, exsanguinated to an alarming extent.

Whispers about vampires having made their home somewhere in the county circling practically every gossiping conversation in town, it wasn’t until a curfew was put in place that everyone began to really panic.

As the day finally comes to a close, you make your way towards the front to clock out, giving a slight wave to a few lingering coworkers on your way out.

The cool night air brushes over your skin as you make your way through the parking lot, your keys rattling together as you pull them from your pocket. The sight of another hunters truck speeding by making you a bit uneasy, quickening your pace across the lot.

You take a moment to yourself once you slide into the drivers seat of your car, running a hand over your face as you sigh before finally cranking the engine.

Don’t be paranoid. Whatever it is, the hunters will take care of it…

The drive back home is a long one, the backroads twisting and turning through the darkened woods that frames it, your headlights being the only thing cutting through the dark.

You end up shaking your head a bit in an attempt to keep yourself awake, briefly leaning over to cut off the radio when a flash of white darts into the middle of the road.

“What the fuck!” You curse as you abruptly jerk the wheel, swerving out of the way before slamming on the brakes. Your car comes to a sharp halt on the side of the road, nearly hitting the ditch.

Your body remains tense as you stare wide eyed out the windshield for a long moment, taking a breath before turning around in your seat to see what the hell you’d almost hit.

A pale man stares back at you, his eyes equally as wide as your own, his skin covered in burns and cuts, his chest rising and falling rapidly, looking as though he’s been running for hours.

Shit.

You freeze for a moment before swiftly undoing your seatbelt and stepping out of the car, making your way towards the trunk of the vehicle before deciding to pause there.

“Jesus… You alright?” You call out to him hesitantly, worried yet cautious, keeping an eye on him as he staggers forward a bit.

“Please. You gotta help me, ma’am…” He calls back to you, slowly stepping forward. “I—I’m hurt real bad, gotta couple of men after me. Messed me up real bad…”

You watch as he carefully extends his arms out, showing you the burns that travel up the length of them, taking a few steps closer to where you linger.

“… You human?” You question him lowly, cautiously stepping closer to the vehicle.

His steps falter at the question, his whole body seeming going still before he takes a deep shuddering breath. “No.” He mumbles lowly, immediately dropping to his knees when he sees you begin to swiftly step back. “W—Wait! Please, those hunters’ll kill me. Just help me lie low for a few days, I—I won’t hurt ya! Swear it.”

You can’t help but hesitate as you look down at him, the look of urgency on his face reminding you of the fearful look you had seen on that lycanthrope’s face.

… God, this is a stupid idea.

You run a hand over your face, cursing quietly before nodding towards the car. “Get in.” You grumbles softly. “Before I change my mind.”

You watch as he immediately scrambles to get up, rushing over to the passenger seat. You take a deep breath before climbing into the drivers seat, buckling yourself up before pulling off back onto the road.

A few tense minutes pass as you try to focus on the road ahead of you both, your grip on the steering wheel tight.

He clears his throat quietly causing you to glance over at him briefly, quickly shifting your gaze away when you catch him staring. “I’m Remmick.” He introduces himself softly.

You hesitate for a moment before sighing quietly, giving him your name. You catch the small grin on his face out the corner of your eye. “That’s a beautiful name.” He murmurs.

Your brows furrow a bit before you subtly shakes your head. “Flattery ain’t gonna do much for you, no point in wasting your breath.”

He tilts his head slightly before backing off a bit, leaning back in the passenger seat.

It doesn’t take long until your home comes into view, the long dirt driveway stretching out between the large water oaks that have claimed your property as home.

The silence that falls as the engine is shut off is almost deafening, an uncomfortable quiet filling the space between you and him.

You take a small breath before stepping out of the car, Remmick quickly following after you as you make your way up onto the front porch. Your keys clink together faintly as you pull open the screen door to unlock the thick wooden door behind it.

You sigh once you step inside, dropping your keys off on the end table near the door, your shoes quietly thudding against the wooden floors as you move further inside.

You turn to say something to him before pausing, your brows furrowing a bit as you watch him stand awkwardly just outside the doorway.

He gives you a lazy, almost forced, grin. “Could you—uh… invite me in?” He mutters softly, glancing between you and the doorframe.

Oh… right.

“Uh, yeah… Come on in.” You hum softly, watching as he quickly steps inside, glancing around as he gently shuts the door behind him.

You watch him for a moment before walking towards the living room, listening to his quiet footsteps as he follows after you. “You can sleep there,” You nod towards the couch before gesturing towards the hallway. “Bathroom’s there, and my room’s there.”

Remmick nods a bit as he listens to you give a quick layout of the house, dark eyes meeting yours head on.

You shift awkwardly, which he catches immediately, before nodding towards the kitchen. “Kitchen’s over there…”

He glances over at the kitchen archway briefly before looking back towards you, tilting his head subtly. “Wonderful home you got here,” He hums softly. “Truly.”

You study him for a moment before glancing over at the time. “I’ve got work tomorrow, so I’m gonna turn in for the night.” You mumble as you look over at him briefly. “Just don’t break nothing.”

He blinks before giving you a small nod, a subtle grin tugging at his lips. “Yes, ma’am.” He murmurs softly.

The night passes quietly, so much so that you almost forget about the vampire taking refuge in your home. That is until the smell of something cooking wafts into your bedroom, pulling you from a dreamless sleep.

A tired groan leaves you as you pull yourself out of bed, glancing at the time briefly before moving to get dressed for the day.

Your footsteps are quiet against the wooden floor as you make your way down the hall, glancing over at the living room for a moment as you pass by, the blanket he had used folded neatly on top of the pillow you had handed him. All the curtains closed tightly, preventing any sunlight to pour in.

Your gaze shifts over towards the kitchen as you make your way through the archway, pausing at the sight before you.

Remmick hums a soft tune you don’t quite recognize as he cooks breakfast over the stove, his dark hair mussed from his night spent on the couch, he grabs a plate down from the cabinet before he spots you.

He blinks before giving you a crooked grin. “Ah—Good morning,” he hums with a small wave, softly saying your name. “… I made breakfast.” He adds as he plates what he made before offering it to you.

… Huh.

You stare at him for a moment before carefully taking the plate from him, moving to sit down at the table. “Thanks…” You glance down at the plate for a moment before taking a bite, humming quietly at the surprisingly nice taste.

The intense feeling of being watched settles over you, causing you to glance up—only to pause mid bite when you find his gaze staring back at you, studying your every expression.

You blink a bit before awkwardly clearing your throat. “You, uh… You’ll have the place to yourself til six this evening,” You tell him quietly, attempting to at least get him to fucking blink.

He’s quiet for a moment longer before he nods a bit, finally glancing away. “I can stay then?” He questions softly, tilting his head a bit.

You shouldn’t. I shouldn’t let you. Shouldn’t have even brought you back here.

Despite the thoughts poking at you, you nod. “Yeah… Just til the hunters calm down.” You murmur softly, trying to ignore the glint of what you think is relief in his eyes.

The kitchen falls into a soft silence as you quickly finish up your breakfast, rinsing the plate before you set it in the sink. “… I’ll be back.” You murmur as you grab your keys and head out the door.

Climbing into your car as you glance back at the house, catching a brief glimpse of what you swear are red eyes in the window before pulling out of the driveway.
