Columns from Apamea, Syria
Apamea, on the right bank of the Orontes River, was an ancient Greek and Roman city. The Great Colonnade was situated along the main avenue of Apamea and ran for nearly 2 kilometers (1.2 mi), making it among the longest in the Roman world. It was rebuilt after the original, dating from the Seleucid Empire, was devastated along with the rest of Apamea in the 115 AD earthquake.
