Xena Ramble
Y’know part of why Xena was so awesome? Yeah, it had not one but two kick-ass female leads who were allowed to be weak and vulnerable and weren’t hesitant about totally taking a guy by the dick (figuratively) and using their hotness to win (Fucking Xena seduced LUCIFER, come on).
But a big part of WHY is that they were SYNDICATED. They weren’t part of any network structure. They were free.
I made the previous image into a gif. Still a little rough around the edges, but over pretty neat! Yay for GIMP!
Scully is not impressed with Rick and Morty.
Top 4 X-Files Episodes
I grew up with a brother who was 8 years older than me and incredibly nerdy. My childhood consisted of reruns of Star Trek - The Next Generation, Xena, and of course the X-Files.
I grew to love all of the above, but have rekindled my interest in the X-Files in recent years and re-watched the series as an adult. So with the impending release of the new season; I give you my Top 4 Favorite X-Files episodes.
Note: This list will only take into account season 1 - 7 because no David Duchovny = No X-Files. The last episode was the only okay thing that happened during seasons 8 and 9 (and that one Brady Bunch episode).
Top Four Favorite X-Files Episodes
Season 1 Episode 1 : Pilot
What was it about: Fresh-eyed, baby-faced FBI Agent, doctor, and complete badass Dana Katherine Scully meets and is assigned with the infamous, brooding, and unearthly handsome FBI Agent Fox William Mulder. They are assigned to a case surrounding the mysterious death of four teenagers in the “very plausible state of Oregon”.
Why is it awesome: This is the first time we meet the dynamic duo that is Scully and Mulder. We witness the first time they meet each other. This episode perfectly sets the relationship between the two main characters and we understand very quickly that their time together with be a constant struggle for both characters to make each other believe.
Season 4 Episode 2: Home
What was it about: After the remains of a grossly deformed infant are found in the outskirts of a middle-American town fingers are quickly pointed to a family living close by. Scully and Mulder are called out to investigate the home and its inhabitants. What they found were disturbing incestuous pit of horrors with mother dearest at its center.
Why is it awesome: Put simply, it is scary as hell! Think of it as a condensed version of the Hills Have Eyes, but with an X-Files twist. It is haunting and that is what initially attracted me to this episode specifically. The mystery surrounding this family will reel you in and the mother dearest plot-twist will make a lasting impression.
Season 6 Episode 2: Drive
What was it about: The episode opens in a OJ Simpson-esque police pursuit of a couple. The chase is quickly ended and the couple is placed in to separate vehicles. Resulting in the female companion most unceremoniously having her head explode as she waits in the police vehicle. Her husband and Mulder as his hostage forces him to drive, but only drive west. He warns that his fate will be similar if he stops. It is left up to Scully to figure out that inner ear pressure was the cause to his ailments and the only way to stop his impending doom is to release that pressure with a needle, but first he would have to stop.
Why was it awesome: BESIDES a rare and amazing appearance by pre-Malcolm in the Middle, pre-Breaking Bad Bryan Cranston? Well the episode is a rare escape from the main storyline of aliens and monsters. We come to find out that the inner ear pressure is caused by an antenna array emitting ELF waves. It is so normal that it is even spookier than aliens and monsters.
Season 7 Episode 12 - X-Cops
What was it about: Mysterious monster feeding off the fear of the residents and the residents of an L.A. neighborhood. Mulder and Scully, with the reluctant assistance of the local police force investigate crime after crime trying to track down the source of these murders.
Why was it awesome: For the majority of the story the episode is captured like any other COPS episode, which is a great and witty use of the FOX brother series. That real-time, shaky camera, found footage style that is so iconic to the COPS series is brought to life with a Mulder and Scully twist. Also it is a rare comedic veer for the X-files that only happens every few seasons.
Honorable Mentions…
Season 2 Episode 20: Humbug - Strange murders surrounding a group of circus freaks. Turns out it is just a detachable conjoined team.
Season 2 Episode 2: Host - Worm-like humanoid infesting the sewers of New Jersey. Last frame of the episode will haunt you forever!
Season 4 Episode 11: El Mundo Gira - El Chupacabra. Enough said.
Season 5 Episode 3: Unusual Suspect - First time we are introduced to the Lone Gunmen and we welcome them with open arms.
Season 5 Episode 12: Bad Blood - One of their funnier episodes with an appearance from a young Luke Wilson.
There you are! My Top 4 X-files episodes and some honorable mentions. What are your favorite episodes? If you haven’t seen the series and are interested try starting with these. You won’t be disappointed, believe me!

10 Unique New Year’s Resolutions for 2016
I think that there is a strong debate whether or not you should or shouldn’t establish New Year’s resolutions. I agree that these resolutions should not be left only until the first of every new year, but can be established whenever you feel you want a change in your life. The beauty of the New Year’s resolution, though, is that is a well known time to make changes that you may have been putting off. It’s like moving to a new school when you are 13 and you just passed that awkward pre-teen age. You are almost expected to make changes whether they are big or small.
What I don’t necessarily agree with is boring, generic, and non-specific resolutions. Therefore, I created a list for myself that hopefully will inspire others to make changes that are not only fun, but necessary. Here it is!
10 Unique Resolutions for 2016
Make things you would usually buy - In an effort to save money and become more self sufficient I want to start making and creating food, greeting cards, decorations, entertainment that I would usually not think twice about buying.
Create/appreciate more art - For me, 2015 was a art desert and it left me feeling a bit empty. For 2016, I want to create and appreciate more art. I already have a list of projects I want to complete for myself and I would love to explore more music and art museums around my area.
Reflect daily, weekly, monthly instead of yearly - At the end of 2015 I tried to reflect on the year because I felt like I went through so much and wanted to congratulate myself. I couldn’t, for the simple fact that I couldn’t remember a lot of the smaller moments, which often were the happier bits. For 2016, I want to reflect about those moments more often.
Have more dinners/dinner parties with friends and family - Shayne and I moved into our new apartment late 2015 and in the processes of celebrating that new move with friends and family we had them over for dinner. It is unfortunate that I needed to move to have an excuse to have family and friends over for dinner. In 2016, I want to have them over more often for no reason what so ever!
Share something new with the world - This resolution can be customized how ever you want! For me, I will be sharing my words. I’ve loved writing since I was little, but it terrified me to share my stories and thoughts with anyone. This year I will share it with whoever will listen...or read!
Become an amateur-expert on a subject that you enjoy - There are a bunch of odd subjects that I enjoy watching documentaries on or reading articles on, but never really looking too much into them. This year I want to not become an expert, but a “amateur-expert” on one or two of those subjects. Meaning, I want to read actual books on them and maybe have real-world experiences surrounding these subjects.
Take more pictures - I was introduced to the idea of a video/picture a day project in 2015. I didn’t get a chance to start this, but I plan to this year. I think it would be great just to reflect on all the little and big moments throughout the year via pictures or short videos!
Change your hair - This is a little silly and I already dyed my hair before the new year, but there is something to be said about a hairstyle change. It is one of the first things people notice and possibly the easiest things to change.
Drive on the freeway more often - Again this is silly and very personal, but i think it symbolizes more for myself. I will only drive on the freeway during the weekends except at night. I want to work on my fear of freeways and fear in general this year.
Create a MeBook - I don’t know if this is just basically journalling or scrapbooking, but I want to “censor” what I post on Facebook, but at the same time document for myself. In the end, I want to create more meaningful social media posts and more meaningful personal journalling moments.
That’s it! No one knows how these resolutions will ever end up. I hope I complete some portion of all ten of these. Hope this helps guide your new year or gave you ideas on your own resolutions!
