'Nethrys! So glad you could make it to the soire! Did you see lady Hela's outfit, it's atrocious!' Sevra smiled and hugged Nethrys as she moved to join their clique.
'You look... well.'
'Well fed you mean.' One of their friends smirked.
'Shut up Vikii, you're not exactly wasting away yourself.' Sevra snapped.
“So glad to be joining you, Sevra. I’ve very much been needing to… get out of the house, lately,” Nethrys said as she returned the hug. “And muses, I know. I don’t know how anyone can stand leaving their lair wearing something like that!”
At the mention of her appearance, Nethrys’ spirit seemed to fall just a tad. Her cheeks flushed, and she nervously fiddled with her hands behind her back.
“Yes, yes, I know…” she sighed, her ears bashfully drooping. “Mother’s latest… trend-chasing continues. I’m sure she’ll find some new fleeting interest soon, and I can finally get this reversed. This is all just a temporary thing. A mistake, really. In a year, we’ll all be looking back on it as a tragic fashion faux-pas.”
'Your mother's been acting strange lately hasn't she?' Sevra asked. Then snorted with laughter. 'Our have too. It's like they've all gone mad lately. This fashion trend is a nightmare. Who even started it?'
Sevra laughed at Nethrys observation. 'She must have been desperate for something different to wear!'
Sevra placed a hand on Nethrys shoulder. 'It's a weird trend, and it'll be over soon I'm sure. Like I'm pretty sure off black is coming back in style soon. And you'll be exactly right. We'll laugh about this next year.'
“Strange doesn’t even begin to cover it…” Nethrys groaned. “Mother seems to voraciously love feeding me like a prize grox and forcing me to stuff myself into ill-fitting outfits now. Maybe she’s feeding off my misery, I don’t know. But I am ever so tired of my nightly six-course meals and subsequent hour of unwanted belly rubs. I don’t know who started this absurd trend, but I hope they’re devoured by a Carnifex in the not-too-distant future.” She let out a long sigh. “Have your mothers grown so deranged yet? Your figures don’t seem quite as… over-encumbered as mine does, at least.”
“In that case, I wish she’d just have ordered a few dozen more outfits instead of turning me into her bloated fashion accessory.”
Nethrys looked at Sevra with a weary yet affectionate gaze as her fellow young socialite placed a hand on her shoulder. While there was always the possibility that this closeness was a feint to manipulate her in some way - such was simply the way things often were in Commorragh - her intuition told her that Sevra was genuine, and she appreciated her for it. “Well… I hope off-black is slimming!” she joked with a smirk.
'That is a creative way to feed off misery.' Sevra mused, as if considering trying it on one of her handmaidens for a moment.
'Six courses? No wonder you've, blossomed so swiftly. That's a lot of calories. How do you even manage to fit it all in?' Sevra seemed shocked, like most Drukhari noblewomen she tended to just, pick at food. She could do so all night, but even then she'd hardly leave a party swollen to the point of feeling overly full. Wine was a different story of course, but all Drukhari knew those calories were empty.
'It must be someone high up, because I've heard this trend is spreading far and wide. An old house perhaps?' Vikii asked.
'That'd be right. They're all plump in the high towers already. May as well try to fit in by making us follow their example.'
Sevra and the others exchanged glances at the question.
'Mine has, recently started making sure I eat more.' One says.
'Mine... feeds me a second dinner every evening.' Vikii admitted.
'My mother... I think is trying to tempt me more subtlely. She's discovered I'm a hungry drunk, which means, I'm not sure how far she's going.' Sevra admitted through gritted teeth. 'So I've taken to Reaver Jetbiking again to be more active in my own time.' She shrugged as if that would counteract whatever was coming her way.
'I hope for your sake it isn't Nethrys. Otherwise you're fatter than you look.' Sevra smiled, affectionately. The two had been old friends, which in Commoragh meant on and off again lovers in most cases.
Sevra had never acted against Nethrys herself. But how could she. Her position was that of a socialite, she had no Kabal backing. She survived by looking good and fashionable at parties, and having friends with connections. She was the last person in this clique who would ever turn on Nethrys.
“Well, let me know if you try it out,” Nethrys sardonically chuckled. “Maybe it’ll clue me in on why Mother finds it so enjoyable. I think she might be addicted to fattening me up at this point.”
“I certainly don’t willingly fit it all in…” Nethrys said, her tone shifting to one of more overt embarrassment. “Mother can get very… forceful with her feeding sessions.” Her thoughts drifted to her wrists being strapped to the arms of a dining room chair last night… though she needn’t let her companions in on that detail.
Nethrys listened to the tales of the other girls, each one sounding disquietingly familiar. “Yep, that’s all how it started with me. The slight increases in proportions, the tempting with alcohol… your mothers may not all go as far as mine have, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you girls are ‘enjoying’ six-course meals in the coming days or weeks.” It brought her some small joy to point this out. Perhaps she wouldn’t be the Token Fat Girl in her friend group for long. She knew some of them mocked her behind her back… maybe fate would deal those girls a bit of karma.
“Ha, ha…” Nethrys smiled back to Sevra, equally as affectionate. They were close enough that they could mock each other to their faces instead of exchanging whispers in secret, and Nethrys was thankful to be around her in times like these. “Though you have a point, I hope it isn’t slimming. That would just make Mother think I’ve lost weight, and I don’t even want to think about what kind of feast I’d be subject to if she thought that!”
@archon-skourna
“Cousin Skourna! My lovely dear, it has been far too long,” Archon Cythria said with a ladylike curtsey before stepping forward to wrap her arms around the younger Archon. “The Kabal of the Whispered Vice is always happy to pay host to our sisters in the Black Hunt.”
'Oh, my dear Cythria it has indeed been far too long!' Skourna held out her arms wide and embraced her fellow Archon with polished glee.
'And I am always willing to visit the Whispered Vice! Tell me, what's the occasion?' Skourna beamed as she stepped away from her Venom.
The staccato thump of armoured boots proceeding her Incubi bodyguards following hot on their mistresses heels, while yet more Kabalites and distant relations clambered off the Vengeous Raiders that had followed in her wake.
The Raider's were built more for combat, but were true to the nature of the Dark City still heavily armed. It was just the Kabalite to lounging aristocrat percentage onboard was lower than usual.
Cythria eagerly hugged Skourna, her embrace of the younger yet higher-ranking Archon one of both poise and passion. By the muses, she looks even fatter in person… Cythria mused internally as her lithe form pressed against Skourna’s curves. No wonder plumper forms are so fashionable in Vengeous circles these days.
“You are looking positively regal, my dear,” she said as they embraced, pecking quick kisses onto both of Skourna’s cheeks.
“Simply one of renewing vows of kinship, friendship, and alliance,” Cythria smiled elegantly, spreading her arms in gracious welcome. “We merely wish to play host to our very favorite branch of the Vengeous dynasty. And I assure you, my dear Skourna, we are very good at playing host.”
She eyed the impressive array of warriors, courtesans, and nobles that had made up the Black Hunt procession. “Just as you are clearly skilled at arriving in style! Come, my dear. You and your immediate entourage can follow me to my personal haven. My supplicants will see to welcoming the rest of your party, and we will all reunite for a grand celebratory feast this evening.”
Cythria led Skourna and her followers through the large doors of the Whispered Vice’s palace, where they were met by a young Drukhari noblewoman in revealing magenta formal wear. This particular noblewoman was the spitting image of Cythria, save for straighter hair, a slightly shorter stature… and a much fatter physique.
The woman seemed more than a little embarrassed, yet performed a curtsey for the guests… or at least an attempt at one. She seemed uneasy on her feet, as if she wasn’t used to her own weight.
“Ahhh, there’s my prized jewel!” Cythria beamed, moving to wrap an arm around her younger, plumper doppelgänger. “Skourna, do you remember my trueborn Nethrys? It’s been quite a while since you’ve seen her. She’s grown into quite the beauty, wouldn’t you agree? A perfect compliment to her mother.” Cythria ran a hand across Nethrys’ prominent belly as she said the word grown, prompting an ever-so-slight grimace and blush from the plump trueborn.
'Careful my dear, flattery can be dangerous.' Skourna smiled teasingly. And by dangerous I mean fattening. She pecked Cythria's cheeks in turn.
'Of course, well for once I'm glad not to be hosting such an event.' Skourna mused. 'I've only ever heard good things about your hosting, I hope it all lives up to your reputation my dear.'
Cythria couldn't miss how Skourna seemed to perk up at the mention of an upcoming feast. She smiled, but said nothing as she followed Cythria through the Whispered Vice's palace.
Skourna took a moment to look at the young noblewoman before her as Cythria introduced her daughter. And to any observer it was clear she approved of Nethrys's appearance, probably quite a bit more than Nethrys did!
'I do! Now I remember a tiny stick of a girl following around in my wake. Which I delighted in, being the youngest in my immediate family at the time.' She smiled as she stepped up to Cythria. 'You've grown into a beautiful woman my dear.' She smiled and pecked Nethrys on each cheek. Her own hand lingering next to Cythria's belly for a moment or two. 'Now look at you.' She hummed before turning back to Cythria. 'Shall we continue the tour?'
“And we Vengeous scions do love living dangerously, don’t we?” Cythria said as she returned the teasing smile in kind.
“Rest assured, dearest Skourna, my reputation will remain quite intact after tonight,” she laughed. “So relax, and enjoy the stress free role of the guest instead of the hostess.”
Oh, Skourna, how whimsically gluttonous you’ve become… Cythria thought as she saw her normally-elegant guest briefly take on the expression of an excited child at the simple mention of food.
Nethrys shifted her weight rather nervously as Skourna took in the view, clearly uneasy with her body being the center of attention.
“Thank you, Lady Skourna,” Nethrys said softly yet politely, her cheeks growing redder as a second hand came to rest upon her soft belly. “It is good to see you again.”
“Grown indeed!” Cythria cackled, giving Nethrys’ belly a hearty and approving squeeze. “My dearest jewel has become quite the connoisseur of calories lately - fortunately, our lineage wears any weight very well.”
“Mother, that’s not-”
“Hush now, dearest! We have a tour to continue!”
Cythria led the party onward into the palace with an arm locked around Nethrys, seeming to try and highlight the contrast between their two pointedly different physiques.
'We certainly do my dear.' Skourna laughed heartily.
'I plan on indulging quite a bit in this role,' Skourna laughed alongside her host. 'I can't wait to see what you've prepared!'
'The pleasure is all mine my dear.' Skourna followed her hosts example and playfully squeezed Nethrys belly and smiled at her.
'I can see that,' Skourna nodded approvingly, 'she must have quite the appetite to look so, well fed. And you are of course correct, we always wear extra weight rather fabulously.' Skourna nodded, not noticing Nethrys complaints. 'It suits you my dear.'
Skourna and her entourage continued onwards in Cythria's wake. Skourna herself linking arms with Cythria on the opposite side. Effectively sandwiching the Archon between two much larger women. While Nethrys constrasted delightfully with Cythria's much more modest physique, Skourna made Nethrys seem almost slender by comparison.
“By all means, indulge away! Legend has it you’re something of an indulgence professional… I’ll be very intrigued to see if you can out-indulge my dearest daughter, for she’s no slouch herself!” Cythria laughed, while Nethrys looked as though she was swallowing the urge to make a comment.
Nethrys’ breath sharpened as Skourna squeezed Nethrys’ belly, her blush spreading even further across her cheeks. She did manage to weakly yet politely return Skourna’s smile, though the smile grew more genuine at Skourna’s complement.
“Thank you, Lady Skourna,” she said, her voice soft and bashful.
Cythria eagerly linked arms with Skourna. “Ah, how fortunate I am to find myself between such bountiful beauties!” she playfully laughed, tugging her daughter and cousin closer to her as they walked.
Finally, the pair reached their destination - a wide, glamorous room with an enormous balcony overlooking the bustling downtown of Cythria’s Commorrite district. The room was ornately covered in furniture and decorations sporting the magenta and silver heraldry of Cythria’s Vengeous branch, and at the back wall, featured a truly enormous rack of wine barrels.
Cythria led Skourna and Nethrys to a private table and sat herself between the two. A trio of kabalites immediately presented a flight of wine glasses before each of them, followed by a fourth bearing a large tray of food pairings.
“Behold, the pride of my wing of the Vengeous clan!” Cythria beamed, picking up the first glass in her flight and swirling it under her nose. “I am ever so eager to hear your thoughts on the tastes of these vintages. I hear you’re something of a wine connoisseur yourself?”
