for the first prompt, secret relationship, I drew something semi inspired by that one chat where Lucifer was going to sneak Diavolo away to get fast food. I imagine Lucifer flying up to Dia’s balcony, but the two get a bit distracted before they can leave 🤭 also mini comic on the side because I will not miss an opportunity to put Mephisto in the cuck chair.

A private meeting to hide a secret date, all to hide a secret relationship (barb definitly knows, he’s just letting them get away with it this time). there’s layers to this shit!

On the surface, dialuci seems like any other ship you'd put together from brazen chemistry and canonical hints. But it's only as I'm attempting to leave that I realise how many niches they effortlessly have in their arsenal.

They're fallen angel and demon, a classic religious au trope since dawn of modern fandom. They're enemies to lovers. They're best friends to lovers. They're prince and knight, leader and devoted follower. They're classical and modern. They could be fighting a war together one night and having ice cream in a quaint human-world shop the other. They play chess together in the morning and go to 80s rock concerts in the evening. They have ancient tea recipes followed by whatever abomination of an ice coffee MC has to sell to them (courtesy of Solmare). They're ballroom dancing at an RAD event and breaking it down at The Fall on their off hours.

And most importantly, they're somehow one of the least toxic couples in the entirety of Interesting Queer Ships in recent media. Despite the very shallow surface-level premise, they actually don't have that many concerns to work past. They don't have the very common trope of one person being designated as the one in control. They don't have to be toxic to be interesting. They genuinely care about each other and aren't hesitant to show it (Lucifer is, but Lucifer is hesitant about showing anything to anyone, so I will not consider him.)

I know every ship has its own unique qualities, but the most surprising thing to me is that this ship came from an otome dating sim. And is possibly the single most supported character/character ship in the OG games to the point of generating mainstream conflict.

Some popular queer media need to take notes.

Thrones and Temptation

Excerpt —

Gold and copper, sapphire and ebony — they make their appearance together. They always do, but Lucifer is just a moment earlier to dip her chin with the rest. Diavolo nods to her with lips pressed thin, the only person she acknowledges before she turns to the masses and becomes someone she is and isn’t at the same time. Someone who belongs to the realm and not to her lover. Lucifer’s gaze lingers for a second too long and she looks away. It goes as it always does, and Lucifer does her part. Lips pressed, tongue held, head bowed. She speaks when necessary, confronted with the fact that their voices meld together effortlessly like the finest of demonus — rich, smooth, and the perfect amount of poison. Lucifer wonders how much of it she can drink before it kills her.

But it isn't all a linear path, it has had its ups and downs. I began posting works in a comparatively massive fandom and that skewed me as a young writer. I then migrated into smaller fandoms with all of ten people who had interest and one who created, that being me. I went from 1000 kudos to nothing. It was hurtful for a while, but I learned to recover and appreciate the process on its own. Now, I didn't come into OM with great expectations, anything is an upgrade to zero. I'm not attempting to claim entitlement of any sort and I know my interest is in a more niche and confined portion of the fandom. But I did feel isolated. It wasn't the little engagement that bothered me but rather the fact that it almost felt targeted. I love and support all content creators in this fandom and would consider myself to have a good relationship with them, so this isn't targeted at anyone or about anyone in particular. However I did feel like my works in particular did not have engagement while others' did because it wasn't good enough. i watched people say the same things I had said in the past but be met with more enthusiasm where I received none. And this is significant because i have never felt this confident in my writing before, I've never been able to look at an older work and admire it the way I do now. I think it's simple really, my works in this fandom were incredibly important to me, and the fact that it didn't seem to be to anyone else was...disheartening. I'm still not sure why—perhaps I didn't take enough initiative, interact with more people, perhaps my writing just wasn't to the masses' liking for any number of factors, perhaps it was just chance. But I believe I've come to terms with it. I no longer feel much of this anymore, if at all. Unfortunately in the process I've also grown distant from the fandom and have left behind many brilliant ideas (that I consider brilliant anyhow.) But at this moment I only want to say, thank you to everyone who did continuously support me and my writing by showing it some love 💕 you may not remember but I always will and it helped me through some uncertain periods in my life. I think anyone reading this would know if I am talking about them. I've also had some wonderful moments in this community so I do want to say that it isn't all black and white, but to not voice my struggle too feels like an injustice towards myself. This is for me, more than anything. And I'm glad to close this chapter on a peaceful note.
