If I were to pinpoint one specific era of Cyclops's history as my favorite, it might actually be Utopia. For all that post AvX Scott got all the press for being almost-a-villain, I actually thought that the era had been a return to form. Sure, he dressed edgy - that giant face-X was clearly his version of Rachel's uniform spikes, and he hung out in a refurbished Weapon-X facility, but his tactics and motivation were really just the same old thing: save mutant kids, don't hurt the humans. (Just look scarier doing it.)

But if you want real moral ambiguity, nothing beats the Boy King of Utopia. (Thank you, Namor.) Scott Summers, at his most frayed, trying to keep so many balls in the air to keep the shattered pieces of mutant kind alive just that much longer. The era when Magneto drops to his knees to hail Scott as Caesar - the man who bridged Xavier's methods and Magneto's to briefly unify the mutant race.

And there's Scott, a man who has disconnected so far from his emotional landscape that he needs his partner to do a telepathic "damage assessment" to determine his own level of certainty for the huge decision that he's about to make for his entire people.

It was only ever a stopgap - a sinking raft to try to keep them all alive until the next island. But man, that was a compelling era.
