Emilie was born on July 13th, 2481, at her familyâs ancestral home of Hartsmoor Castle. Her parents were Duke Lucan Hart and his wife, Lady Jocelyne Astra. She was the fourth of their biological children. Her young childhood years were surprisingly uneventful, given her fatherâs temperament. However, being a girl, and considerably younger than her siblings meant that Emilie was largely ignored by her father. Before she had even left the nursery, Lady Jocelyne had begun preparing Emilie to be a high lady. A task she exceled at, to her motherâs delight and her older sisterâs annoyance. Her mother often remarked how Emilie would make a fine lady of the house someday; and a fine wife to a high lord.
Emilie had an ethereal quality to her; an innocence and beauty that was other-worldly. Lady Jocelyne would refer to her as a âstar rebornâ. With skin like porcelain and hair like spun starlight, Emilie seemed to glow when happy, and when she was sad, it was like a light had been extinguished. She was the darling of her family, and all of her siblings were quite protective of her. Her eldest brother, Sebastien, at 11 years her senior, was more of a father to her than her actual father.
At 10 years old, Emilie was brought to the family residence at Cair Paravel. It was against family tradition to leave Hartsmoor without a Hart in residence, but the rest of the family was occupied at court trying to make alliances to bolster the army for the upcoming fight; so Lady Jocelyne would not allow Emilie to remain alone and unprotected at what would become the epicenter of violence. It would be two years until Emilie would see her home again.
Emilie thrived during her time at Cair Paravel, even though she was too young for most court activities. She was still welcomed amongst the Queenâs ladies, where she developed an interest in the healing arts. She shadowed Queen Tamzin, eager to learn everything she could. Emilie was devastated when after two years, she was told to return to her mountain home. Her father was dead, and Sebastien was now the Lord of Hartsmoor, Warden of the North. It took a lot more convincing than Emilie had expected, but eventually, at age 14, she was permitted to return to the Royal Court. She would be an official Lady-in-Waiting to Queen Tamzin this time. She also would never see her childhood home again.
Her teenage years at court were idyllic. She resumed her apprenticeship as a healer under Tamzin, where her tender touch was a great balm for many people. She also held a place of high honor in court as her brotherâs relationship with the Queen progressed. Emilie served as the Queenâs train bearer at their wedding, the most coveted position amongst the Queenâs ladies as it was the most visible. Emilie had begun to dream of what her wedding might one day look like, who her husband might be. But it was not to be.
A prophesy had been passed down through Emilieâs family for generations, from her motherâs family, despite seeming to be about her fatherâs bloodline.
âWhen the blood of the North Star meets the Son of Slaughter,
It will be the second coming of Ramanduâs Daughter.
And when the star is once again seen,
The Heir of Liliandil will not see nineteen.â
When it became apparent that Emilieâs sister Philippa was the spitting image of Queen Liliandil, who had lived nearly 200 years prior, Lady Jocelyne became convinced that the prophesy was about Pippa. Pippa, true to her character, did not worry herself about nonsense such as prophesies. Pippaâs nineteenth birthday came and went in the year 2493, with no sign of the prophecy being fulfilled. Pippa was satisfied that prophesies were indeed nonsense. Lady Jocelyne began to believe it wasnât about the age of nineteen, but rather the year nineteen, meaning 2519. They would both turn out to be wrong.
On June 30th of the year 2500, mere weeks before Emilieâs nineteenth birthday, she was attending a banquet at Cair Paravel. They were celebrating the recent engagement of Pippa to Tamzinâs distant cousin, Xaden, King of Archenland. Everyone was milling about as dinner was cleared away and dancing was set to begin. Emilie saw a strange man approaching Tamzin, and when he pulled out a knife, she didnât even think. She leapt between them, yelling at him to stop. Willian tackled the man to the ground, and Emilie look down, quite surprised to find the knife embedded in her belly. She collapsed into Percyâs arms, who had been moving to stop the assassin but was half a second too slow. It took mere minutes for her lifesblood to pour out of her. The blood of the North Star and Liliandilâs heir. The prophecy was about her, not her sister.
Moments before her last breath, a bright light flashed and the North Star himself appeared. It was the first time in centuries he had descended from the sky. Not since he had given his daughter away in marriage. Polaris declared that while Lady Philippa was indeed the mirror image of Queen Liliandil; Emilie was the spitting image of his own daughter, the Lady Ursula. Ursula had fallen in love with the human Lucien Astrid. She had chosen to live a mortal life with him, with love, and children, and eventually, death. Polaris now declared his Ursula had been returned to him as Emiliana, and he would return her to her rightful place in the sky. So while her mortal body died in her brotherâs arms, her soul, her very essence, ascended into the heavens. She remained there for centuries. At the destruction of Narnia, all the stars were brought to Aslanâs Country. Emilie has chosen to descend from the sky to be with her family, while Polaris has finally been reunited with the actual Ursula, though he loves Emiliana as a granddaughter.
