I will be participating in the 2016 Santa Run on December 4 in Victoria Park, London, UK, as part of a fundraising and awareness campaign for a handful of nonprofits. I will be dressed in a full-on Santa suit and joining over 4,000 other Santas for the run. I have chosen The Alzheimer's Society in honor of my grandmother, who developed and has suffered from rapidly progressing Alzheimer's for the last decade and is cared for full time by my mom. She found me and saved when I was a baby and is the first Person I ever had. She doesn't remember any of that or recognize me anymore, but in hiraeth I'll always remember her as my first Home. The Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading care and research charity for people with dementia and those who care for them. It provides information and support, runs quality care services, funds research, advises professionals and campaigns for improved health and social care and greater public understanding and awareness of dementia.
