Nag- Aso Boiling Lake

Did you ever see a lake that is boiling and literally you can cook a food just like an egg? If it is no, come and I will share with you one of the tourist part here in Albay located at Manito.

Nag-Aso boiling lake is located at the 3rd district of Albay specifically at Hologan, Manito, Albay. You were going to travel for almost 1 hour and 30 minutes for you to reach the place. If you are from Legazpi it is located at the right side but you are going to turn right of course for you to find it. You can use the map from your phone so you have guide going there. It is also good if you have company of friends so you know it will be not get boring. There are path ways that will lead to you to the part where you can see the whole lake and take some beautiful pictures. The color of the water is green brought by the sulfur oxide. A lot of trees are also present there that make the ambience more relaxing and fresh even there is a boiling lake. They called it in the other name which is “Inang Maharang” the “pasungawan of Mount Mayon”. It is an interesting place right? But the journey is real and it takes an hour before you reach it. At the entrance of the road you can see there the signage saying” Welcome to Nag-Aso Boiling Lake” so you will easily find it and it will be your guide to the interesting place of Manito. Some photoshot are also making there because of the unique view. It is the real hidden beautiful spot that you can find after a long journey of you. If you are looking for a long ride you can try to go there and it is worth it I swear. You can bring some egg and banana for you to try if it is real that you can cook out there. But some tourist used to bring so they can try and prove that the water is hot for real. I also suggest that you will go there in the morning so you can’t feel the heat of the sun directly. You also need to bring some extra water for you to be don’t dehydrated. And please if you are planning to eat there bring your own trash bin or plastic bag so you can prevent to ruin the place. Add bring some extra clothes because I am sure that your sweat will wet up your shirts.

It is summer time again and you can add this to your listed places that you want to visit. Come and explore the hidden treasure of Manito Albay. Make sure that you bring your cameras and some stuffs before going there because remember “no balikan na” when the vehicle start to run.

MOSBORON BEACH

Oceans is one of our chosen place to release our stress and feel relax. It becomes part of us during summer. So are you ready to explore the treasure of one of the place here in Albay? Join me and enjoy.

Here in first district of Albay specifically at Cagraray, Bacacay you can find there the one and most visited resort which is the Mosboron Beach. Last September 4, 2021 our family decided to go for an outing and the chosen place is that. It takes 1 hour and 16 minutes to go there and some of our family members ride on the van and we ride on our motorcycle. The journey going there is so fun and exciting because a lot of beautiful places are present before we reach our destination. Mosboron beach is located at the right side of the road if you came from Legazpi but if you’re going to take the shortcut before the Sula bridge it is located at the left side of the road, it is easy to find because there is signage and the parking is on the side of the road. It will be also the first thing you are going to see if you are planning to go to Cagraray Eco Park. But before you reach the resort you were going to walk for just 5-7 minutes. You will be surprise for its relaxing and white sand of the beach. For the entrance fee it will cost__ and you can also have a cottage that cause___. But the cottage is limited there because mostly the tourist used to have their own picnic mat and tent. And if you love taking pictures you can find the right site for it at the left side of you if you are facing the sea. It will be also good for people who hate big waves because the sea here having a calm and short waves. At the right side of the sea you can go there and enjoy fishing. For the bathroom you can find it also at the right side and you need to pay after using them because the water that you are going to use are being fetch by the people there. If you are looking for a stall where you can buy some of your stuff like shampoo and soaps you will find it at the back of the cottages and it is also beside the people who collect for the entrance fee. They also sell some foods and drinks but just expect that it is a little bit pricey. If you are an animal lover a lot of dogs are present there enjoying and getting new friends with the tourist. They are kind and playful, and also don’t forget to bring your own trash or sometimes they provide a trash bin for that.

SAWANGAN PARK

We have the newest, attractive, and environmentally friendly park in Legazpi City, with the breathtaking beauty of the seaside and its cold fresh air. It’s most likely to know as the “Sawangan Park” and actually can be located at Dap-Dap Legazpi City.

Legazpi was originally a fishing settlement called Sawangan that occupied what is now the Legazpi Port, whose inhabitants were mostly fishermen and farmers. The majority of Legazpi inhabitants are mindful of the park's simplicity and beauty. Sawangan Park in Legazpi City, Albay, is perhaps the most prominent monument that aims to push the city's growth to the next level. Mayor Noel Rosal's administration is working to boost the city's value by speeding not just its economic metrics for a business climate, but also various other areas of this booming and lively metropolis. The mayor, who frequently visits the seashore park, has recognized its significant potential to promote eco-tourism and maintain a safe and healthy living among the people as the city grows into one of Luzon's Top 5 tourist destinations.

A broad grass and well-lit walkways, picnic areas with cottages, playground with skateboard rink, bicycle lanes, beach volleyball court, and a grandstand for outdoor events are among the features of the huge one-hectare area.

Since March, Sawangan has begun to draw more health enthusiasts and promenades that once again enjoy the sea breeze and lovely beauty and surroundings of the site, which was previously neglected because of the Covid19 threat.

Recently, some of the candidates for the election, both presidential and local, held their campaign and other events at Sawangan Park, therefore lots of people came and they were mesmerized by the beauty of the place. Even the atmosphere during night time made them appreciate nature.

Sawangan Park also has its mini playground were kids can also play, there's also a built materials used for exercising, therefore middle aged men and women can savor there time there. The fresh air coming from the sea side as well as the beautiful scenery and image of the so-called 'Sleeping Lion'.

In places like this, anyone can spend their time and enjoy every second moment they have. It can be morning or specifically at night time, were colorful streetlights are provided, to make the place even more attractive even though it’s night. Anyone’s who’s having a hard time or being stress at any aspects of their lives unwind here. Anyone can come alone as well as anyone can come with their family, friends or other special someone. The sea waves that makes our body and mind calm down while listening to it, and watching the moon and stars that shines so bright and peacefully makes ourselves even more relaxed

So what are we even waiting for? Anyone can visit this place anytime they want, no entrance fee, make yourselves feel at home, just don’t forget to respect the environment like you always wanted.

BUNTOD REEF MARINE SANCTUARY

Buntod reef marine sanctuary is a natural sandbar in Masbate City, this is one of the most visited tourist spots here in Masbate City especially during summer season. Most of the tourists who had a chance to visit Masbate consider Buntod as a little Maldives of the Philippines because of its crystal clear water, fine white sand, and long sandbar. You can also pose and take Instagram worthy pictures in the middle of these dwarf mangrove trees locally known as “bakawan”. This natural sandbar has been ranked as the Philippines most resilient coral reef since 2011 up to present through the effort of the local government unit of Masbate. This 250 hectare sandbar is just a few minutes away from the City of Masbate, 15 minutes boat ride from the departure port and you’ll reach Buntod. This marine sanctuary was established way back 2001 and had been a home for different marine life, and this is the main reason why illegal activities such as fishing around the protected marine area is prohibited to allow these marine life to flourish. Samahan ng mangingisda ng purong sinalikway (Samapusi) is the one who is responsible for taking care of the sandbar, this group of blast fishermen before was now the protector of Buntod.

This protected marine sandbar sits between barangay Tugbo and barangay Nursery; if you want to visit Buntod private sea vehicles are not allowed. Everyone who wishes to enjoy this beautiful heaven is hereby directed to set an appointment at the Tugbungan port, one the interesting fact about buntod is that the other half of the sea is cold while the other one is warm. This place is also perfect for snorkeling because of its rich marine diversity; in fact buntod reef marine sanctuary offers snorkeling, and scuba diving as well as other fun recreational activities which their visitors can enjoy. The last time I was able to visit Buntod was last December 2021 and during that time the main cottage was under renovation, because there was this part of the kitchen area that caught fire last November of last year. Instead of replacing the cottage with the same light materials such as nipa and coco lumber they used concrete instead, to prevent another incident that happened before and to make sure that the cottage is safe for the tourist. Because of its beauty, Buntod is always included in the 6 islands which is part of the island hopping trip so if you wish to avail this offer, you will be able to experience 6 of the beautiful islands of Masbate City.

This buntod reef marine sanctuary is a strong evidence of resilience of life in Masbate City. This is also a quick week-end escape of the locals in Masbate, especially the province of Masbate always experiencing an unscheduled power interruption and this place is one of their quick escapes. It has been already featured on national TV, has been a location for TV shoots and series, its natural beauty really captures the heart of many. With this thing, you can understand why caretakers of this sanctuary are sometimes really strict in terms of implementing the rules and regulation because this is also where they get their everyday needs, in other words Buntod reef marine sanctuary is their life.

BEAUTY OF THE UNKNOWN

Philippines is greatly known from its 1700 islands, consisting of different tourist destinations both man made and naturally beautiful places like beaches and landforms. One of the best places in the Philippines is Bicol, which is widely known for Mount Mayon, due to its perfectly coned-shape, but Bicol has a lot more to offer than just Mount Mayon. Like other regions in the Philippines, Bicol has countless natural destinations not just to rest with like beaches, but also to find fun and adventures.

One of the best places for adventure is Mount Manaet located in Bacacay, Albay in Bicol. It is one of the many mountains in Bicol that is suitable for a hiker's fun escapade. With the height of 420 MASL, although professional hikers would rate lowly on the difficulty of the trail, it still meets the expectation of a fun and adventurous destination in Bicol. I, too, experienced and witnessed the beauty of Mount Manaet. In August last 2021, my brothers and I decided to take a short weekend vacation and have a little fun and decided to go to Mount Manaet for an adventure. There is no need to worry about deciding on going at night because Cagraray, Bacacay is one of the beach filled places in Albay. At 6 pm, right after office hour was our scheduled departure. We arrived roughly 45 minutes to Bacacay from Legazpi. Too late for hiking, my brother then came up with an overnight stay on one of the beaches. We ended up on a secluded island named Omagob Beach just a 30-minute boat ride away from the city. The rich island was filled with fishes, crabs, and even small octopuses that you’re free to catch. Well, only if you can. Camping tools and equipment are perfect for the peaceful, primitive stay in Omagob Beach.

The next day was a perfect day for hiking. The foot of Mt. Manaet are where the fishermen live, and there are small stores, so it wouldn’t be worrisome to buy some necessities before going for a hike. You could even hire a tour guide to help you in going up the trail, although it would be very thrilling to discover the unknown trails. After a few kilometers just at the end of the residence, we were greeted by stone stairs with bamboo arcs that covered the heat from the sun. With just a few kilometers away from the shore thirst then filled our throats, fortunately we came across a faucet where we filled up our jugs with clean water that was safe to drink. As we go on the hike, we cross a small rice field, which was the first resting trail you would come across after the stone stairs. Not far from it, we then went to a flowing river which we crossed for us to go to the other side where the continuation of the trail extends. We were able to get drinking water from the faucet near the river as well. We also went for a little swim to clean off the mud from the rice field. As we move from the river, the real adventure then starts. Even though there are numerous resting areas and stone stairs for us to be able to go up easily, most of the trail involves climbing and even crawling, which tested our strength and endurance. For a non-professional hiker like me, I almost fainted. It’s the moment I realized how important breakfast is. Just before we reached the peak, tall grasses welcomed us, a little suspender of the wonderful scenery of the horizon, the city, and even the Mt. Mayon from the peak. We had a peaceful night with stargazing and a motivating sunrise, as we watched how the sun started to light up the lands of Bacacay.

It may be tiring, but as some may always say, you’d appreciate more of the things in front of you when you worked hard for it. The trail may be too narrow, confusing, and stiff, but the fun, thrill, and excitement of discovering what's in it at the edge of your journey would be much more valuable with every step of the path that you take on. As my brother has always said to me, “Appreciate the beauty of the unknown.” And that’s what Mt. Manaet has to offer.

BULUSAN LAKE AND BULUSAN VOLCANO NATURAL PARK

Mt. Bulusan is considered as the 4th most active volcano in the Philippines since 1885. It is located in Bulusan, Sorsogon which last erupted in December 2016. But this is not the only sight to appreciate in Bulusan. The Bulusan Lake and Bulusan Volcano Natural Park is one of the destinations that must be visited when going around Sorsogon that will surely make you fall in love with nature.

Bulusan Lake and Bulusan Natural Park located on the foot of Mt. Bulusan, which consists of one of the preserved rainforests in our country, the Philippines. Free travelers with their transportation would make it easier to visit the Park. Tour guides will be paid only 150 pesos and transportation for 35 pesos will bring you from the Eco-Tourism Center to the lake and back again. Private cars were restricted to enter on the main lake as part of their preservation of the natural habitat. The 30-minute ride from the center to Bulusan Lake is filled with trees and plants that surround the whole forest. Even preserved animals are free to view as they freely live in the forest, animals like monkeys and eagles just go around the forest; you could be lucky enough to see them swing by. The main attraction on this destination is the Bulusan Lake that spans 16.3 hectares and 33 meters deep with fishes swimming around. Are you a good fisher or maybe a hiker as well? Fishing is allowed in the lake, but only minimally to still preserve the natural beauty of the place and also the animals. There are also a lot more activities that visitors may do during the visit like kayaking, boat ride and stand up paddling around the lake to explore the different trees and flowers on the side of the lake. One of the well-known flowers lying on the corners of the lake is Jade Vine or as the locals call it Tayabak which beautifully forms a butterfly and a heart shape when two flowers are put together. Tourists can also adventurously trek Mt. Bulusan from the lake, which will take at least 14 hours to and from the mountain. Meanwhile, for visitors, they can walk around the lake that would take at least 30 minutes.

The trees from around the lake and in the forest add to the vibrant and abundant ambiance of the tourist attraction, one of the paddlers describes the place as a perfect location for the movie “Avatar”. The green waters of the lake, filled with algae that fishes eat, perfectly blends into the peaceful wilderness mood that Bulusan Lake exhibits. This is also a perfect background for photos. There are many corners in Bulusan Lake, and Bulusan Volcano Eco part where you can shoot perfect photos. They placed a floating cottage where visitors can rest in or take a picture in with the lake view. Also, a bridge was built that serves as a view deck for the scenery. It is a perfect place for photoshoots like in weddings and pre-nuptial photos.

At present time, the local government is still in an ongoing process of improving the facilities and other activities that the tourist may enjoy during their visit. This will only make the tourist destination more worthy of a check in a bucket list.

SESE BRAHMAS RANCH

My grandfather always used to tell me that when life gets hard and chaotic people will always run away. Yesterday, I learned that he was actually right.

Yesterday we went to our ranch which is also one of the tourist attractions here in Masbate and as I’ve observed there’s a lot of people who always visit the ranch to relax and at least refresh their minds from the exhausting days in the City. While fixing my things in the car, one of the caretakers called me to ask me to give all collected entrance fees to Lolo. But instead of heading towards Lolo to give the money, I went to their barracks instead and put all the money at the top of the table inside. While his wife was asking me what did I do I sat and spoke with his wife “Ate Jen can you tell me about why people loves going back here and what do you think they love here” Ate Jen simple look at me and said “Maybe they find here peace which is very elusive in the City, City has a lot to offer you including stress”. “Maybe that’s the number one reason why people always choose this place after a long week of hard work in the City. Just by looking at the beautiful scenery and wide mountain ranges while sipping a cup of coffee you can think freely and make decisions or think about your next step in life” she added.

While on our way back home I suddenly realized that Ate Jen and Lolo are right. Because even when things don't go to plan and when everything’s messed up I instantly pack my things and go to the ranch, I just have my laptop with me and all necessary things I need while I’m away in the City. I will finish all my paperwork under the shed of a tree while enjoying the beautiful view and fresh air. Just like the people who always visits the ranch the only thing we want is peace of mind, calmness while sitting down in a wide grass field, with this being said you can eventually feel that you’re just a piece of the earth so it’s okay not to be okay, it’s okay if you don’t have an idea of what will come to you tomorrow. Experiences like this are so therapeutic, visiting a place like these which gives you peace can really help you especially when you’re going through a hard time or experiencing a mental health problem.

The moment we reached home I headed right away to my room and took a quick rest, while laying ahead another realization just hit me while my eyes were already blinking ready to take a nap. Stressed people are just so lucky because Masbate has a lot of tourist attractions and beautiful scenery where they can recharge themselves before going back to work. So we really have to be responsible in utilizing these precious sanctuary we have, this is also for us to enjoy these in the next coming years.

BEAUTY OF THIS LAKE

It’s been a long time since we last visited this place, it’s a week after my 18th birthday, and the only thing I can say is that I and my family enjoyed the moment we had while visiting this place. Albay is one of the hot spot tourist attractions in the Philippines because of the famous Mount Mayon. However, recently, a different tourist attraction has been catching the attention of many visitors of Albay. It is as breathtaking and as mesmerizing to see because it actually gives you a great view of Mount Mayon - the Sumlang Lake in Camalig. Sumlang Lake is a 14-hectare lake that was filled with lilies in every angle in the past. But residents in the village saw its exquisiteness and potential to become a good spot for travelers. So the villagers, along with the support of the local government, had a massive cleanup, only three years ago, and that was when the lake’s true beauty surfaced. Additionally, the view of Mount Mayon on its back just gives it more of that picturesque scene.

What I love about Sumlang Lake is how it exudes a sense of peace and serenity throughout the whole lake. By the way, there are a lot of activities that can be done in the lake. And if you’re looking for a place to get your inner photographer out or maybe you just want to take some photos for your next Instagram post, around the lake is where you will find some "Instagramable" modern looking chairs and cottages. You can also see some unique art pieces that provide the artistic feel to the place. Sumlang Lake is a niche park. There are not many tourists, but this does not affect its beauty. The lake is clear and the reflection of the Mayon Volcano is very beautiful. Boating (bamboo rafts) in the lake is another flavor and worth visiting. The quiet lake which had been unnoticed for years made an uproar. Like wildfire, its name conquered various media outlets. It is now an outstanding rendezvous for people looking for the best site to admire the perfect Volcano.

How to go from Sumlang Lake? From Legazpi, first ride a jeepney heading to Camalig, Guinobatan or Polangui. Just look at the signboards. Camalig town is almost 30-45 minutes away from Legazpi City. Tell the driver that you are heading to Sumlang Lake; he will drop you off at Albay Agri Ethno Village (Agri-Village).

So what are we waiting for? Let’s go to Sumlang Lake, appreciate its beauty, capture the astonishing beauty of nature as well as capture every moment, and let’s all have fun in Albay.

BEAUTY BENEATH

There is peace in water like it is holding you, whispering in low tones, saying “every problem in the world will fade away.” From every cloud and every raindrop, it all leads to an ocean I call home. When all walls are crashing down, I always tell myself that if I can’t find my place here on land, there is always a safe haven below.

I am going to tell you a story that happened when I was a little boy, I came from a place where seas and oceans are more than a four-hour drive so when I arrived here in Bacacay I saw lots of bodies of water, particularly seas. Then, there is this thing in my head and it is surging, watering every nerve with excitement, to explore, to discover. It is funny that it took me ten years to step on sand, shallow waters gently stroking my feet, and the sound of waves calming me like it is singing me a lullaby. From that moment I fell in love with the luminous beauty of the sea.

As a young-adult, I am slowly getting swept away by the harshness of reality. Oftentimes I see myself on a sinking boat, navigating against whatever the world throws at me. If the sea can calm itself, so can I. So, every time I feel myself drowning, I make the sea as my escape. Just this month I went on a quick summer getaway on an island that only some remember, overshadowed by a far more popular island destination, it vanished, literally.

I would like you to meet one of my favorite islands here in Bacacay, known as ‘Vanishing Island.’ When I said that it vanished literally, I was not joking nor exaggerating because the Island literally vanishes most of the time, hidden on the surface at high tide and exposed during low tide. You may be wondering how do you get there? It is quite simple, from Bacacay port just find someone and rent their boat, price varies but I can assure you it is not expensive, it is a thirty-minute boat ride accompanied by two to three men in charge of driving the boat, assuring the safety of everyone, and for parking the ride.

During those boat rides, you get a glimpse of what is beneath you, I lost count for how many times I have been there but I saw lots of wonders that I never seen before, you can see the waters changing in hue, from different shades of green and blue as the depth of the sea floor changes. I saw different types of tropical fish when I was looking below and there was this encounter when I reached my arms down just to touch the water while the boat was driving, believe me it is one of the most oddly satisfying things you can do on this adventure. But that is not where the fun begins, while on the way to the island, I came across to a part filled with pink jellyfish, it was like a scene from a movie where the ocean is being ran over by blobs, I also came across with the locals diving and catching for sea urchins, I did not taste it yet but I heard it is a good delicacy. There is lots of beauty I spotted under the sea floor, so I suggest always keep your eyes open just like what I did because who knows what sight awaits.

I know that you are on the edge of your seat thinking, what is so special when you get on to the island itself? Here is my secret to make your trip there a whole new experience, make sure on that night of your trip there is a full moon. I saw the vastness of the island when it is not submerged, since it is about eight to twelve feet deep when at high tide and when the water recedes. I found all sorts of marine animals from crabs, starfish, scallops, shrimps, fishes, hermit crab, you name it! The true beauty of this island is beneath its water, when the tides are low, quite a tiring journey to explore it so I always prepare myself with a coconut and drink on floating cottages where it remains afloat where water does not recede.

So, if you are feeling like swimming in different waters, Vanishing Island is more than happy to welcome you, whether you want to travel because of discovery, escape, rest, or whatever your reason being, I would love to welcome you to a place I will forever call home.

A HIDDEN WORLD

Are you also tired by the sounds of the city? The traffic, construction work, sirens and alarms, noisy nightclubs, chattering of the crowd, and even your neighbor’s dog and music. There will always be a time in our life that we are going to desire for peace and quiet away from the urban noises. What about the smog so thick it can irritate your eyes and clog your throat, and the smell of garbage scattered across the city streets and other foul odors that the city emits that can lead to coughing, wheezing, and other breathing problems? Don’t you also crave to experience life away from the noise of the city? The foul stench of decaying matter? Do you want to see the beauty of nature and be one with nature? If you answered any of these questions, I got thing just for you!

Here in Upper Bonga Bacacay you can find a spot where you can clearly see the majestic Mayon Volcano below, surrounded by towering trees and covered will thick foliage. You might be thinking ‘how can I see the Mayon Volcano if it is covered by tall trees and all sorts of greenery?’ Do not worry, there is a place in the camp site that I like to call the sweet spot, because it is a completely open area where you can admire the beauty and the cleanliness of the surroundings. At night you can gaze upon the stars, the skies are crystal clear, free from smoke and smog unlike a city. It is a sixty-minute trek but believe me it is worth every second, because as you ascend to the top you can come across of all the stunning things nature has to offer, from fruit-bearing trees you can pick off, animals and insects you can take a photograph, and even streams of water you can wash or take a bath. Once you arrive at the top you can see the neighboring islands and cities below, like the San Miguel Island in Tabaco all the way down to the port of Santo Domingo. Since you are at the peak the temperature is cold even if there is still the sun. There are also 'Bahay Kubos' made from bamboo trees and 'Anahaw' leaves if you want to take a rest after the long hike.

When the night falls, you can hear different nocturnal insects and animal noises, like the chirping of the crickets, the hooting of the owls, the croaking of the frogs, and the sniffles of small animals as they look for other small prey. You can occasionally hear the sounds of twigs and dry leaves breaking, but fear not here in The Campsite you are guaranteed safe and sound. Besides who wants to ruin the fun right? From afar you can still see the dazzling city lights but you do not have to smell the smokes nor hear the sounds of the traffic, instead you can smell the smoky scent emitting from the campfire as you barbecued your favorite meat of choice, the sound of traffic is replaced by the sound of the campfire crackling and popping. Once the fire has burned out, you are left with nothing but darkness but as you look upon the sky you can see a lot of bright stars and constellations, it is even prettier if there is a moon as it will illuminate the entire field. MORON

Apart from beautiful tourist spot that we can find here in Bicol region, another thing that makes people in love with us are the different foods that we Bicolanos offer. They said that "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach". Through this, we can use the same method to capture the hearts of the tourists as well as the other localities that don't know about this, by serving the a unique delicacy that can be found here in Bicol Region, especially the topic right now, the Moron.

Now I will be sharing with you is my mom's best seller "kakanin". Before anything else, I will use Bicol Language so that you can feel the essence of what I am saying behind the context and also, sometimes, if you translate other words in English, it creates a different meaning. Now the name of this delicacy is Moron. Moron is made of "arinang bigas" and "arinang pulutan". It also consist of coconut milk, brown sugar, butter, salt and cocoa also the Banana leaves where Moron is being wrap.

To further describe and discuss what Moron is, let see how it cook. Come on, I am going to tell to you what is my mom's secret in making the perfect Moron in our barangay. The first step is you need to "lublub" or put the banana leaves in medium heat of fire and it should be done with both sides. Next step is need to wipe the leaves to remove the black substance called "oring". But let me remind you, there are two different kinds of "oring". Other one is made of wood comes from different tress, and rhe other one is come from "bagol" which is the coconut shell that we call. Now back again to our topic, after my mom cleans all the leaves she will set them it first and then do the cooking. As I observe her, she will do the white part of the Moron first because it has two faces. She will add on the arinang bigas and pulutan then add the coconut milk consisting of salt to taste then mix it well before putting to the fire. Now do you think it will end up here? Simply placed the combined ingredients? Certainly not. My mom will mix it for almost 30-45 minutes until it becomes sticky and then she will try it on banana leaves, so once it does not sticky it means that it is already cooked. For Moron chocolate flavor, she will mix the arinang bigas and arinang pulutan then add the sugar, and cocoa to make it like chocolate and mix. Put it back on fire and mixed it again but this time, she put some butter and peanut to make it more special and delicious. After the process of mixing she will now start packing it. She will use two (2) banana leaves for the white and chocolate parts of the Moron. You will form it like the shape of the banana leaves a rectangular one then put it together then roll it. After packing she will cook for 30 minutes again but this time she will add some water to make it boil. After a long wait before my mom serves and delivers it, she will keep it warm first. The best way that my mom serves it is to put it first to the refrigerator so we can slice it in a perfect form. My mom sells it for only 25 pesos per roll. It is big and you can make 6-7 slices. You can also add some condensed as an additional flavour. It is perfect for breakfast with coffee and some soda. This kind of delicacy is best served to the tourists and also to our fellow Bicolanos. It must be tried and recommended to everyone, and I am proud to say this delicacy can capture every man's heart who will try and taste it.

MASBATE'S BESTS

Tourist spots, pristine beaches, outstanding marine life and breath-taking scenery are only some of the reasons that validate the beauty of the Bicol Region. Region V also shines, not just because of its natural beauty but also because of the delicious delicacies it can offer you. Having the chance to try some of these native delicacies will make your travel experience very memorable and unique among all your travels. The Bicol Region is rich in cattle grounds and coconut trees, and maybe that’s also one of the reasons why coconut milk is the most frequent ingredient in their dishes. Also, red chilli is a must-have ingredient for Bicolanos. You have probably also tried some of those, such as the most famous "Bicol Express," but to tell you honestly, nothing beats the experience of trying this from the place where it was first made and served. These delicacies might not just give you an experience you will never forget, but might also give you the reason to go back to Bicol for more.

Because we have a lot to offer, one of our main delicacies here is Bicol Express. This symbolizes the courageous spirit of every Bicolano. This is a viand which is mainly made with pork and fresh coconut milk and tiny shrimps, or locally known as alamang, just to add flavour to it. This is the most famous viand that every tourist looks for every time they have the chance to visit the Bicol region. After enjoying the hot and spicy Bicol Express, we will make your desert more thrilling by serving you our "Sili ice cream". Yes, you’ve heard of an ice cream made out of red chilli, locally known as siling labuyo, a variety of red chilli which is classified as the spiciest among all its varieties. But don’t worry because even if it is made out of chilli, we'll still make sure that you’ll enjoy its natural flavour together with the ice cream’s creaminess. For those who don’t enjoy spicy foods, you have nothing to worry about because Masbate has something to offer that you’ll surely love. Masbate is known as the rodeo capital of the Philippines because of its rich cattle grounds, which are a perfect place to raise cows and other animals. If the mainland Bicol has "Sili ice cream," Masbate has Carmelado. This is a sweet candy made out of cow’s milk, and carmelado is now one of Masbate’s ice cream flavours. It has a natural sweet and creamy flavour because of the cow’s fresh milk, which was harvested directly from the ranches of Masbate. Some of the carmelado in Masbate wasn’t made out of cow’s milk instead it was made from carabao’s milk, but its flavour and natural creaminess stayed the same. But of course, the adventure doesn’t stop there. For those who want something to chew while enjoying their desserts, Pili nuts are perfect for you. Bicolanos doesn’t want to bore you with just plain nuts. That’s why we did something about it. We have caramelized pili nuts, crunchy coated pili nuts, pastillas de leche pili nut cake, pili tart, just name it because Bicolanos has it all! Bicol has a lot to offer; these delicacies are well-known and have already been featured in various food contests and exhibits.

In a word, the Bicol region is truly a destination for those who want to explore and enjoy famous tourist spots and delicacies, a region which can also compete with what other regions can offer and show. THE FLAVORS OF BICOL

One of the greatest pleasures in life is to discover, taste, and eat the best food we can find. When I say I did taste a few and it was good it may sound like an understatement. Bicol region is home of the finest food, the I may not have navigated the entire Bicol as a whole but I got the privilege to taste the flavors of Bicol region from regular ‘Karinderyas,’ restaurants, Tito’s and Titas who cook during events or birthdays, and even my personal skill in cooking. I can’t say I’ve reached the pinnacle of my culinary skills but let’s just say my caterpillar cooking skills are yet to become a butterfly. So, for now, I am going to share the greatest food in Bicol I tasted and tried cooking, improvising, and modifying by myself.

Starting things strong, allow me to introduce our very own Bicol express, by far the most popular dish from Bicol. They say that your trip in Bicol is not complete until you taste their Bicol express. I mean who would not blame them? It’s a dish to die for. It is a stew-based dish, commonly made from coconut milk, pork meat, shrimp paste, and chili. But I have a different version of Bicol Express on my own, the secret is to barbecue the meat and let it simmer with the other ingredients, this will give the dish a brand-new taste.

Next up on the menu is the Laing, locally known as ‘natong.’ Many Bicolanos don’t fancy such a dish because this recipe often has a bad name and reputation that will scratch your tongue along with the throat when you eat it. But the secret is all about the preparation, if you truly want the Laing to taste perfectly you have to be patient cooking it. The most important part of cooking Laing is you do not mix it vigorously, when you first put it in the mixture you do not have to stir it right away, let it soak for a bit then slowly push it downwards then mix it gently, that’s how you make a perfectly prepared Laing. We Bicolanos just could not resist the temptation of putting coconut milk in most of our dishes like the Sinantolan, it has a similar recipe to the Bicol express but this time we throw in the Santol or cotton fruit into the mixture. This gives the dish a creamy, sour, and spicy kick just the way we Bicolanos feel like eating it. Just to alter the taste I personally make a mixture of sugar, citric acid, and pineapple basically making a sweetened pineapple.

Moving on, if you don’t fancy dishes for now how about our Bicolano Miryendas. We have our very own special Pancit Bato. What makes it so special is not about what you add up to the recipe or cooking style you go for, it is in the noodles themselves. In fact, you can just sauté the onions and garlic and put the noodles in and you are already in for a treat. If you are still hungry, you better not forget the Biniribid, Arroyo, Sinapot, and Balisunsong.

Of course, our meal would not be completed without a dessert. If you want to spice things up, how about our chili ice cream? We just couldn’t have enough spicy food, didn't we? Truly a masterpiece dessert delicacy. 

Food embodies the culture of a particular place, city, or region. us to know the place and its people, we have to taste their food. So, if you truly want to understand the people or of Bicol as a whole, why not give it a go? Good food can come from anywhere but the greatest foods come from the Bicol region. Only now do I truly understand what these words meant. Our creativity, improvisations, and ideas in cooking shows, that we can the produce the best recipes.

Here in our country, Philippines surely has a lot of remarkable tourist spot and destinations. Along with it are food delicacies that surely a lot of people will find interesting. We sure can travel around the world, but in our country; we have Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. However, we will focus only on the Bicol Region of Luzon.

“There’s just so much about the region to be discovered and showcased, and this is also an opportunity to work with local communities and create livelihoods,” Mr. Buenaflor says, a food enthusiast residing in Bicol. We have a coordinator who leads the tour and local chefs conducting food demonstrations. The cities are also tapped to assist in our market tours, and a hotelier in Sorsogon personally hosts the guests. Bicol Express or “sinilihan” is a mouthwatering, spicy delicacy made from long chilies or siling Mahaba, coconut milk, and pork. It is a flavored combo you never thought to exist. Not a fan of spicy food? Don’t fret, because there are plenty of restaurants in the area that serve many versions of the dish. In fact, in some parts of Bicol, Bicol Express is made without pork. Experience it for yourself and take your pick!

BICOL'S PINANGAT AND PILI

Bicol region is one of the most famous tourist destination here in the Philippines. Generally known for the perfect coned-shape, active volcano the Mount Mayon which was located in Ligao, Albay. It is already featured in some movies like “She’s Dating a Gangster” of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. Bicol is also known for beaches. Geographically speaking, Bicol is located just beside the Pacific Ocean. In this regard, makes the Bicol Region rich with beautiful beaches in its every province. Bicol though is not only famous for its tourist destinations, but also with its delicious varieties of foods which greatly represents the culture of the Bicolanos.

            There are a lot of food and delicacies that can be found in Bicol, one of which is Pinangat which originated here in Bicol and widely known in Camalig, Albay. Pinangat is also known as Laing in Manila, it is a traditional stew prepared in two versions. One is the sour version which is the known version in other regions with fish or pork, bilimbi, tamarind and vinegar as the main ingredients used when cooking. Meanwhile, Bicol version uses fish like tuna, sardines and catfish, taro leaves, coconut milk and of course sili or chili peppers to add spiciness. There is another version of Pinangat which is called Tilmok that is almost the same with the classic Pinangat only that, it is filled with small crab’s meat.

It is very easy to cook, however, it needs a lot of time. First, you have to clean the gabi leaves/taro leaves then dry it after. Slice the gabi leaves into pieces then wrap it in another gabi leaves, you can add sliced sili before wrapping it to make it spicy. Place it in a big pan together with coconut milk, onion, pepper, lemon grass and salt. Tie it with a dried leaf of coconut then cook it in a high heat until it became fork-tender. Then your pinangat is all ready to be eaten.

According to one of the articles from Bicol University in 2018, Pinangat has 65.48% moisture, 2.3% ash content, 4.2% crude protein, 3.83% carbohydrates and 24.3% carbohydrates. With the presence of calcium, sodium, iron and zinc. The recommended amount of consumption of Pinangat is low-moderate due to its high content of sodium which exceeds the standard dietary amount of intake of sodium.

            Another famous delicacy of Bicol region is the Pili which means “The Chosen One”, its nuts were actually used in making pili candies and desserts that can be found in Bicol. Pili trees can grow in different places not just in Bicol, but Bicol region is one of the places that thrived in sustaining and cultivating Pili nuts. Pili or also known as the Canarium Ovatum grows in wild environment and in soils rich in volcanic ash, this is probably one of the reasons why Bicol is rich with this fruit especially that Mount Mayon is an active volcano up to the present. Pili have 3 layers, the skin, the pulp/shell and the nut. None of its parts were put to waste.

When the fruit is already black, it is then ready to be harvested. You can cook these fruit without fire and only with hot water, first wash the fruit then put on a bowl with hot water then wait until its skin become tender then remove the skin and the shell, it is the ready to be eaten with rice, dipped in fish-sauce with chili. The skin can be used as fertilizers while the shell can be broken to get the nut inside which can also be eaten. It is a rich with nutrients and minerals like amino acid, copper, manganese and calcium. It is used in making Pili candies and Pili rolls which are very famous souvenir from Bicol Region. Its thick shell is used in creating crafts for decorations and souvenirs which gives most of the local Bicolanos a source of income.

These delicacies does not only fill the tourist’s stomach but it also filled with the Bicolano’s land, culture, traditions and stories that represent the uniqueness of the Bicolanos’ identity. They may have varieties and versions from localities, but “Oragon’s” identity and the history of the Bicolandia will be carried out from generations to generations together with these amazing delicacies and its distinctiveness.
