Back to our wee retreat and the boys are enjoying the garden for playing and eating their chews.
18th May Troyes
More of this little jewel.
Then we went to an excellent vets in the city to get dewormers and paperwork completed to take Hartley and Baxter back to the UK.
18th May 2026 Troyes
This was the reason for stopping here, to visit this stunning little city, with its centre of medieval timbered buildings and impressive civic buildings. It is truly wonderful.
17th May 2026 Parc National Regional de la Foret d’Orient
We planned a stop here on route to accommodation as outlined below. We already had success with the park in Piemonte and this was fine. There were nice carvings from old trees and a little nature trail that normally I’d be too ashamed to follow.
We then ran into issues when a local told us that there were no supermarkets open on a Sunday afternoon in France. 😝 We managed to find a scabby little place, with poorly stocked shelves and a weird smell, where we could at least get bread and more of those delicious French crisps that are to die for!!!
We couldn’t get into the house until 5.00pm, which was annoying as we had to cut our walk short due to rain. There also were no restaurants open or bars or indeed anything else in this wee corner. We did a rehearsal run to find the vet in Troyes which we will go to tomorrow.
Once settled in the house we hit the gin and wine and that was that.
17th May 2026 Dijon to Precy-San-Martin in Champagne - Ardenne
For a couple of nights. Time to see a tiny bit of France. The AirBnB looks tremendous from the outside and is fine but with a death trap staircase inside. Hartley needs to be carried up and down it. Baxter can get up but refuses to go down.
16th May 2026 Dijon France
It’s a day on the road, a modest one, six hours to get here. Two very sleepy dogs, despite only having a stroll around the local park.
15th May 2026 Cherasco
Last day here and last walk, with gorgeous views everywhere.
It’s a jewel of a place.
14th May 2026 Cherasco
We spent today walking and then enjoying the garden at Il Ciabot di Rosa. Splendid!!!
13th May 2026 La Morra
A reminder of the name of that very fabulous restaurant.
13th May 2026 La Morra
Steven joined us in La Morra by car, as it’s one of those typical Italian villages set on top of the hill.
Elena of the AirBnB place we have been using recommended a restaurant in the village. So after enjoying the splendid views over the wine region, we had a delicious lunch. Vitello tonnato, Trajan al ragu, tiramisu and the local pudding called Le Bonet, a type of chocolate crème caramel.
13th May 2026 La Morra
The dogs and I headed to La Morra on foot today, via Verduno, which gave rise to the beautiful views to Verduno and Roddi beyond. On route we spotted a lama in a nut tree grove.
12th May 2026 Baldessero D’Alba
Just look at the stunning views of the alps from here.
12th May 2026 Cherasco
The good food and wine continues with the best steak imaginable, brought with us from Lane in Pietrasanta. Glorious. Followed by supermarket ice cream.
12th May 2026 Parco Forestale del Roero
As well as amazing wine, this little part of Piemonte has a lovely wee wooded area that Hartley and Baxter enjoyed so much. For once in Italy, and only because it was empty, we could let them off their leads to enjoy running about. 🥰
11th May 2026 Cherasco
Photos of a yummy lunch, with a nice bottle of something red from the nearby village of La Morra.
11th May 2026 Cherasco
A very enjoyable morning at Cherasco wandering through its beautiful collection of buildings, art and culture. Stunning!
Then a lovely wee lunch, which Steven particularly enjoyed given I was driving!!!
9th amd 10th May 2026 Chersco
We decided to come back to the delightful Il Ciobat di Rosa here in Piemonte. The dogs recognised where we were and ran into the garden to start non stop playing.
