Radiohead - All I Need

Last semester, this would be the first song I listened to as I walked back from work every other day. Me, walking alone, smoking my cigarette, sipping a coffee I bought at the gas station on the corner. The dimness of the night rolling in with the cold. There was something almost sacred about it. It was when I was able to take my time, slip back into myself, and find some peace before walking back onto the campus that I struggle to call my home. Somehow, this song makes everything ok. For 3 minutes and 48 seconds, I get a break from all of my stresses, my building questions, life. I’m able to lose myself in the melancholy mood of the music, a sadness that I find comfort in.

I’m convinced that Radiohead has a song that perfectly embodies every mood, every situation, every pain and joy in life. Strangely enough, I have no one to address the lyrics to, something that I do all too often. Maybe that’s why this song consumes me; I don’t need anybody else to give meaning to this song, just myself.
