Important on many levels. English is the language everyone is expected to fall back to, to communicate with people online, in the world, etc. But a lot of us are NOT native speakers, a lot of us had to learn it and sometimes we get slapped by native speakers for using a wrong word/bad grammar (that includes when you try to talk about something important, or write meta, and fuck up, and have zero chance to re-explain yourself around the fact that you might have tried to express something with the wrong words) when those same native speakers never had to raise a freaking finger to learn another language and QUESTION the privilege of English. So, yeah, good to remember that.
