( kiernan shipka / she/her / cis female / florence pugh ) lana ‘laney’ bryant was just spotted by paparazzi riding around in a bubblegum pink mercedes benz eqs. the twenty two year old has made quite a name for themselves, as the latest tmz article has stated that she was spotted having two dates with different guys in a single night, but we have yet to see if that’s true or not. the tabloids say they tend to be impulsive, but the fans claim they are also hard working. when i think of them, i think of late night conversations, cherry suckers and stashes of movie ticket stubs. they’re usually seen walking the streets of los angeles with the versace medusa aevitas platforms, and the soundtrack to their life would probably be happier than ever by billie eilish. background
lana was born on november 5, 1999 in a small town of 1500 people in upstate california. she is an only child of a middle class family, and her parents have a pretty dysfunctional marriage but stayed together “for her sake.” still, lana grew up a happy child, always enrolled in arts classes and excelling in school.
she was 16 when she met the boy that changed the trajectory of her life forever. she was a junior and he was a repeat senior, and they met at english class she was bumped up to and he was retaking. lana, who then went by charlotte, had been a good girl all her life but something about this boy made her rebellious and bolder.
they stayed together until graduation day ( because they happened to graduate on the same day ) and eloped that same night, which her parents did not like at all. they stopped talking to her, and lana’s new husband convinced her to move to los angeles, so she decided to ditch college, stop going by charlotte, and go to hollywood where they would both become rich and famous.
los angeles
it didn’t work out well.
they were having the time of their lives as broke newlyweds in a run down, shoddy, nasty little apartment in a bad neighborhood — for only a couple of months. lana started regretting the decision to leave, she missed her parents and she wanted to go to college after all, but her husband thought that that was a stupid idea and he would let her know. neither of them were getting any work, his demos weren’t selling and lana couldn’t get past a first callback.
their relationship grew colder and more distant, so lana started spending more time away from home and hitting every single audition room she could squeeze into and scheduling as many meetings with managers as she could. after working little background roles here and there, she caught her big break a few months after turning 19, when she was cast in the little drummer girl. lana actually lied about her age in order to get the role, pretending to be 23 because it was the minimum age on the casting call.
she’s been working non stop since then, which her husband was rather jealous of, as his demos still weren’t selling. the two of them started arguing a lot, getting into screaming matches pretty much every time lana came home from set and sometimes even when he’d visit her on set of little women. and then, after a year and six months of marriage, lana filed for divorce and promptly left to film midsommar in europe. they haven’t spoken since.
ever since the divorce, lana has been working very heavily and hasn’t dated anyone seriously. she started talking to her parents again, but things are still very much fragile between the family. currently, lana is trying to get to know herself, enjoying the fortune she has amassed in the last four years, keeps chasing that oscar she missed out on, and dates around a bunch, now afraid to open up to any man that tries to weasel his way into her heart and ditching before they can try.
“And just imagine trying to work on a farm in this heat? There’s a reason why my father is someone I never want to cross,” Savannah admitted with a giggle. That was the truth too - he was one of the few people that she was truly afraid of. While he loved all of his children, his idea of love was different from most parents. “But um, gosh, I have no idea. The iced lavender chai latte looks super yummy and refreshing though.”
she chuckled. “god no. couldn’t imagine it.” lana really could not -- she barely could stand the california heat, she couldn’t imagine it somewhere it was worse. “yeah, i’ve tried it before and it’s really good, i recommend.” lana told her friend, and laid back on her chair. “so how’s the music biz going?”
“dip a-” silas squinted, not entirely sure whether or not she was joking. sure, it was something he’d heard before, but… no one actually did that. …right? “we could head back to my place - throw a real party. i can get a good crowd in like, a half hour.” if there was one thing silas knew, it was how to have a good time. “…or i know this place a few blocks away, but… it’s not as private. at my place, we can do whatever we want, you know? no paps.”
she laughed at his reaction to her comment. “i’m kind of sick of cameras, so i’m all for, like, a house party. maybe we should do it at mine though, i don’t want to interrupt your baby mama’s beauty sleep.” lana said, and she was completely honest. sometimes she thought that maybe she was more excited than silas about his baby. the actress took a sip of the soda she’d gotten from one of the waiters and sighed. “but, like, only if you invite hot guys.”
“well of course they don’t make a difference. all that shit is for show.” he’s been to way too many of those to actually believe those people gave a damn about the environment. at her following words, he forces a laugh, surprised with how believable it sounded. of course he liked lana, what wasn’t there to like? he just… had to give it more time, that’s all. “yeah?” he smirks. “well maybe i can make up for the last time. wanna go out to dinner? i found this great sushi bar near venice beach if you’re interested.”
she nodded in agreement. “they absolutely don’t.” lana felt her cheeks flush when he smirked at her. he really could make her blush so easily. “don’t even mention it, babe. nothing to make up for, it’s okay.” the blonde grabbed his hand in hers, pressing a kiss on the back of it. “well, you know i’m always up for sushi. do you have practice today?”
“lana, baby!” silas’ hurried over to greet his friend, giving each of her cheeks a quick kiss hello, though that was mostly just an excuse to whisper to her without looking totally suspicious. “save me. i’m bored out of my fucking mind. if i’d known this was a dry event, i wouldn’t have come.” sure, it was for charity, but since when did that mean no alcohol was allowed? a terrible idea, in his opinion. after all, the drunker he was, the more generous he tended to become. @lanadear·
“hi, king !” she squealed when silas hurried over to her, hugging him as he kissed each of her cheeks, and ignoring all the flashes going off around them -- she’d gotten good at it. “i mean, you could always dip a tampon in vodka, babes.” she whispered, though it was hard to tell if she was joking. “we should leave early, though, go somewhere that’s less... you know. pr positive.” from the way she said it, you’d think ‘pr positive’ was an insult, though it was ironic considering she had a pretty good reputation.
mael chuckles lightly at her question. “i mean, global warming, am i right?” he couldn’t believe that there was genuinely people who didn’t believe in it, considering how fucked up the world was becoming. “the heat is a lot, yeah, but i think with sunscreen everything is okay. can’t stand sweating, though.” even with his profession which required sweating constantly, it still wasn’t something he was fond of.
she chuckled. “yeah, totally. i wish all those damn climate fundraising events i’ve gone to actually made a difference, but i guess elon’s space joyrides and jeff’s midlife crisis yachts are more important.” lana said, rolling her eyes. “can’t stand sweating ? that’s new information.” she teased with a smirk, hoping to make the interaction a little less awkward after what had happened last week.
“No, I definitely think that it was hotter than yesterday,” Savannah replies as she glances back down at her phone, looking at the coffee shop’s online menu. She was torn on what to get, either an iced latte or an iced coffee. “I mean, I think living off by the water does help with the humidity. Georgie summers are totally a million times worse!”
“i know, right ?” the young actress said. “oh i cannot imagine the summer in georgia. that sounds genuinely so horrible.” lana took a sip of her coffee, still trying to make up her mind about what she wanted to get for lunch. “but i guess you’re right, having the sea so close does make the heat more tolerable.” lana put her sunglasses down on the table and turned to look at savannah. “have you decided what you’re gonna get ?”
“is it me or is it actually fucking hotter than yesterday ?” lana asked the person beside her at the ridiculously overpriced, beachfront coffee shop, picking her hair up and clipping it back with a claw clip. “i love living by the beach but sometimes the heat gets to be too much for me.”
i’m not a poet, i’m just a woman. and as a woman i have no way to make money, not enough to earn a living and support my family. even if i had my own money, which i don’t, it would belong to my husband the minute we were married. if we had children they would belong to him, not me. they would be his property. so don’t sit there and tell me that marriage isn’t an economic proposition, because it is. it may not be for you but it most certainly is for me.
“When the film was released in Sweden, rather than eliciting fear in the audience, many people laughed. Many Swedish critics praised the film as an excellent black comedy.”
