Falling in love, be it with yourself or another person, is a nuding process. Love, when true, is an alter of truth. You can't hide your ugly here. Your beauty will be more glorious here. It is a beautiful and messy process this love business. The joy of journeying with another as discover themselves is invaluable. Yet within that beauty there the ugliness of demons rearing their heads in the middle of dinner. The ugliness of the ego during talks about finances or even during sex. All these things will compel you to die to your old and selfish nature as your roots grow towards this person whose roots are growing towards you. In love, the ego must learn to bow. A lot of our hurts can be traced to our constantly trying to bend things into submission. We associate happiness, life and love with this and never that. We see things in twos: if he stay - that's love. If he leaves: that's hate and hurt. Who said both staying and leaving can't be a wonderful thing? In us there exists both light and darkness and the objective is not to get rid of one and keep the other, the objective is to embrace both. See good in all situations. Q: your fav poem in Current Feels? A: I couldn't possibly dissect myself like that. The book does have around 200 poems so to choose a fav for me is nearly impossible. Q: a chapter then? A: again, there are 4 of them and each one is a journey in love I experienced and tempted as I am to choose the good ones and forget the seasons that didn't go so well, my experience is interlinked. But if I must choose based on how I feel right now, I'd go with Summer. Q: Why Summer and is Summer a person? A: Summer is very much a person and i choose it because it's my current experience. The entire chapter is based on a relationship I'm in right now and i choose it because I get so much pleasure in listening to Rhandzu read it. Also Summer is very naughty so I like that. Life in love is beautiful when takes a break from being ugly and too damn confusing. The rollercoster of "I want to spend the rest of my life with you" and then quickly "Don't talk to me" The "I thank God we met when we did" and then "I wish I had never met you" All the bloody way to warm embraces and the sweetest missed before bed to ghostly silence. There's a reason your mirror always reflects you and never the people you compare yourself with. Your focus should always be on growing and improving yourself and worrying about the girl/boy who seems to have it figured out, who is prettier and more likeable. This universe doesn't have a shortage of blessings. Just because someone else already has what you are still praying for doesn't mean you won't get your share. Your share of love. Your share of earning a living doing what you love. Your share of genuine friends who will forsake sleep at 3am when you need them. All these things that you desire, they desire you too but have been hovering over you, hardly finding you because you are too busy trying to be who you are not. my name is Portia, a South African based poet with a bit of musicality. I'm introverted and too chilled for a world that requires an up pace. For longer than I can remember I have always looked at who I am and desired to change it so I could fit in. So I could more accepted blah blah blah. I did all of that without realising just how much of an injustice to myself that BS was. I, like most, hid my light so it couldn't blind 'them'. I kept quiet where I should have spoken. But ive learnt and I'm still learning to love all of me - including parts that seem undeserving. I started this page to share my love of life, my journey and introspection through poetry and prose and thank you for having come in when I opened the door. Every now and then i may slip in my travel diaries so look out for that. Thank you for dining with me on happy days. For watching me without judgement as I sometimes mourn parts of me that I left on the road.
