La Semillita Art Project

La Semillita Art Project is about bringing art back to the children by creating a mobile-art-venue. We want to provide art workshops to young children, especially to those living in low-income communities. Our goal is to raise awareness about the lack of art programs for children in this country through a summer art tour of cities and towns across the United States. The plan is to travel East from Chicago, IL, then South, heading West then up the Coast, and back over two months. There are an infinite number of benefits for children through creative expression, and to make our vision reality we need help raising funds to cover the basic cost of art materials, transportation, and modest food and lodging for the instructors. By partnering up with local artist and organizations, we want to help in creating creative spaces by offering free art workshops. Families and children will benefit from utilizing free art material to create anything they wish. We believe that all children should have access to free art instruction regardless of economic status. We are committed to educating and mobilizing the public using art as a medium for social-change as well as promoting cultural and civic empowerment.

WHY IS ART IMPORTANT FOR CHILDREN IN MARGINAL COMMUNITIES?/ PORQUE ES IMPORTANTE EL ARTE EN COMUNIDADES MARGINADAS?

Fellow UIC Engineering student who passionately responded to why is art important to children living in communities of color. As an important member of his family and the community, Cuauhtemoc helps his parents by selling hand-made original bracelets on the weekends as a line of hungry customers form outside the restaurant. This picture was taken in front of Restaurante Nuevo Leon in the neighborhood of Pilsen in Chicago.

The purpose for this video is to INSPIRE-MOBILIZE-CONNECT with our communities by promoting up-cycling through Balloon Art. We want to show that any object can be transformed into art helping children to explore their creative potential with limited resources.

Our goal is to create awareness about the importance of having accessible art instruction for children through humanitarian intervention. By centering around the idea of "access" to artistic development, La Semillita's mission is to create a network of people who believe in fighting for children's rights using art as a tool for social action activating community leaders world-wide.
