Second time around
warrior-goddess-wonderwoman:
Diana continued to watch him, as he studied the photo. Bruce had gotten her that photo just a few weeks before. Now she kept it with her. It was older than nearly everyone on the planet, with magical and god-like exceptions, but she couldn’t part with it, not again.
“We had our moments,” she told him. “Charlie liked to sing.” Diana smiled a bit. “Not everyone was as appreciative of his art as I was.” She swallowed the lump in her throat. “I lost y– Steve the next night.”
Steve looked up at her as she spoke, wincing slightly. She had mourned for him, that much was obvious. He had caused her pain and even though he didn’t really know her that well right now, he wished there was something he could do to ease even a little bit of that.
Hesitantly, almost as though he expected her to finch away from him, he let his fingers find hers. “I’m sorry.” He said softly. “The one thing I’ve always known is that I didn’t want to leave you. Not at all. But there was something I had to do.”
